Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress
Chapter 843: Utter Shamelessness

Chapter 843: Chapter 843: Utter Shamelessness

If the other territories knew what they were exhausting and experiencing just to protect these ungrateful smaller territories, they would have had them abandoned.

But no matter how small, these territories were still part of Valeria.

If they work together, they could make a difference.

However, right now, all they do is blame things on the knights and magicians.

Their frustration was understandable but they did not have to treat the knights who had been trying to protect them this way.

"His Imperial Majesty has arrived," the magician announced loudly for everyone.

"Greetings to Your Majesty!"

The knights immediately bowed and greeted when Ferdinand arrived; the dirt the masses were throwing at them did not reach them as the magicians made a barrier.

"!!!"

The formerly noisy and unruly crowd were finally silent. They also bowed their heads and did not dare meet Ferdinand’s gaze.

They still feared disrespecting the Emperor directly but they dared disrespect and shame the Imperial Knights. Such an act was also disrespectful to him.

Ferdinand already knew what was going on but still asked, "What’s with the commotion here?"

The knights kept their mouths shut and simply gritted their teeth despite wanting to rant.

They felt ashamed of wanting to complain so they did their best to keep their composure even at such disgrace done by the people they had been protecting.

"They gathered here and insisted that we came here to make their situation worse. We tried to explain again and again but they refused to listen to us. Instead, they began throwing mud, dirt, and all sorts of things," the Knight Captain reported.

"We came to make the situation worse?" Ferdinand asked as he eyed them.

The noisy crowd did not dare utter a word. Until someone said, "Things only got worse when you arrived."

"Worst? This is far from the worst this situation could have led to. If we wanted to make the situation worse, then we wouldn’t have bothered coming here in the first place," Ferdinand pointed out.

No one dared to speak against his words even when they clearly had something they wanted to say.

Until someone said, "Then why did the situation get worse when Your Majesty and knights came here? All our crops and harvests were burned down. Now, even our mountains are becoming bare. Even Spring would not help us recover all this lost vegetation."

The people were once again riled up and one after another pointed out how everything became worse when they arrived.

And that it would have been better if they did not come here at all.

They complained about every little thing they could complain about until they were once again directing their frustration and anger on him and his entourage.

Some even said they were only protecting the bigger territories which was why they were trying to end everything here even at the cost of the people’s livelihood and food source.

There were even those who were implying Ferdinand was intentionally depriving them of their source of livelihood to make them starve to death.

They refused to listen to reason even when Ferdinand began to explain things again.

Instead, they once again picked up mud, stones, and anything in their surrounding and threw it at them.

The knights were alarmed and prepared to move to block anything from reaching Ferdinand but he gestured for them there was no need and remained at the front.

The magic barrier blocked everything the people threw and yet, they still kept repeating it for a chance it would the knights.

They did not dare throw anything at him in fear of getting arrested.

However, if they strictly follow the laws, these people could be captured and punished for doing this in his presence since he could have been the one that gets hit instead even if he was not targeted.

The people did not look like they were willing to settle down any second and would keep doing this and demanding explanations when they were not even willing to listen to any explanation in the first place.

Ferdinand sighed and drew the sword of the Knight Captain beside him.

In the next second, he took a large step forward and slashed in the air above the heads of ten people who were standing close together and were at the forefront in violently throwing things at the knights.

Shing!

The sharp sound of the sword as if cutting something in the air made the people step back, their gasps resounding.

They were finally silenced after seeing him with a drawn sword and the knights ready to follow suit if he just gave the order.

"If I wanted to, I could have cut ten heads in that swing," Ferdinand warned. He was getting so annoyed and done with their behavior.

The ten people who were within his and the swords’ reach grasped at their necks, pale with terror that they could have lost their heads then and there.

"BUT, I DIDN’T," Ferdinand emphasized.

The crowd glanced around in fear, clearly wanting to flee now but were afraid to move since he was still holding the Knight’s Captain’s sword.

Ferdinand continued to give them a warning, "The same goes for my knights.

They did not draw their sword against you since they have sworn to protect Valerians.

And they have done so for years.

These knights and magicians had fought with me on the battlefield countless times.

They returned home proud of their efforts and were welcomed as heroes for bravely fighting in almost every war I went to since I sat on the throne.

They have performed their tasks with honor and pride for years — allowing their lives to be at risk, all for the sake of Valeria.

You are leaving a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth with all this ruckus and disrespectful behavior.

They have not slept for days in their efforts to prevent this situation from escalating further and yet you, do this kind of action instead?

Do you think this kind of behavior will help you recover your lost harvest?

No, it wouldn’t.

This is nothing but rudeness, utter shamelessness, and violence against the same people who are trying to protect and save you from this predicament."

He gave the people a stern gaze and waited for someone to try to refute him.
