Chapter 576: I Have Nothing to Worry About
Unlike in her previous life when she wasn’t that close to them since she did not understand them as much as she does now.
"What about Ivan? Ivan worked for you in the past life. He seemed to be a normal assistant in your office back then. Or did I simply not notice something?
"Nadia and Odette were also among your allies who wanted to ruin His Majesty. I’m sure I have seen them with you several times in the past. What are you planning to do with them?"
’Ah, I see. Since we successfully had Evania return to her homeland, he was eyeing the other people who were involved in the things that happened in our previous life.’
Arabella realized that Alwin must be planning on what to do next. If he needed to remove more people from the Empire, he would.
’He must be getting worried. He did not want to let his guard down just because Evania had returned to Umbra.’
After Evania left, the relief and celebration were only temporary. Alwin got worried that aside from Evania, the others may still pose a threat.
"Ivan was simply a normal office assistant. He wasn’t involved in what I was up to back then.
"As for Nadia and Odette, I have indeed worked with them. Due to that, I know why they tried to ruin Ferdinand and the Empire. So, I tried to prevent the cause of their hatred. I’m sure you understand what I mean."
Alwin was there during their visits to Prudencia and Safiro.
"Yes. That was why you insisted on visiting your assistants’ territories. Were all the causes of their hatred solved by helping their territories get out of their predicaments?"
[If there was something else, we need to solve everything now.]
"Yes. By visiting their territories months ago, we were able to prevent what triggered their hatred from happening."
"Nadia and Odette were..." Arabella then informed Alwin about what happened in their past life that made the two seek revenge.
"I see. They indeed have a reason to seek vengeance. But that wasn’t His Majesty’s fault either," Alwin of course, defended Ferdinand.
"Yes. It wasn’t. Because he wasn’t aware of what was happening in their territories. But he was the emperor, so it was his responsibility to look after the whole Empire," Arabella was not as biased as Alwin was even if Ferdinand was her husband.
It was true Ferdinand must have been busy. But with all the capable magicians he could utilize, he could have had the territories monitored and managed more effectively. He must have assumed Raymond had taken care of it.
It was indeed supposed to be Raymond’s task, but he had been too occupied to the point it did not cross his mind he did not send out people for the job.
It was why Raymond felt most responsible for what happened in Prudencia and Safiro since it was his task to oversee things while Ferdinand was to look for his mate.
Not that Ferdinand tried to find his mate either. He was waiting for his term as Emperor to end or have his life in his human body ended by someone who could. It was so that he could return to Estrella and hibernate.
None of them were at fault about what happened but all of them could have done something about it if they knew the situation.
"Then, what about King Icarus?" Alwin further inquired. "You seem to like my lord now. But you have memories with Icarus. Are you sure you won’t be shaken if he confesses to you? He had tears in his eyes when he first saw you in Medeus."
’Right, he saw that.’
"I do feel bad for him. I still feel guilty after using him to achieve my own goals in the past life and breaking my promise to be with him."
Especially after learning that his feelings for her were genuine and he had loved her for years.
"But I had no feelings for him in my past life and the same is true now. I only used him. He was my victim and I have no plans to use him again."
Using him once was more than enough. She was still riddled with guilt by all that. She had no plans to add to her sins.
"I intend to reject him if he still confesses his feelings despite seeing that my relationship with Ferdinand was alright," Arabella explained.
"Yes, you should since he can be quite persistent," Alwin sighed as he thought about the time Icarus and Ferdinand dueled to settle who would marry Arabella.
"And I know you would stop me from ever wavering, so I have nothing to worry about," Arabella jested to lighten the mood.
"Huh? Are you saying I must look after you all the time? I’m quite a busy person," Alwin gave her side-eye.
Arabella chuckled at that.
"I’m kidding. I won’t waver. I love Ferdinand. I won’t betray him this time," Arabella smiled.
Alwin stared at her, weighing her words, and understood she was not lying.
"I see. That’s good," he sighed in relief and settled his back on the seat.
Arabella took a sip of her tea and waited for him to speak again.
"You can feel His Majesty’s presence just fine, right?" Alwin inquired.
"Yes, is something the matter?" Arabella was alarmed by his question.
"He must feel my presence again after the curse was lifted. He would be eager to see you again so he would have returned immediately and did not waste any more time there. But he didn’t, so something must be up," Alwin supposed.
Arabella was wondering about that too. Once Alwin’s curse was lifted, Ferdinand and Alvis should have been able to feel his presence again even if they were in Umbra.
Since they did not return immediately upon realizing Alwin was back in Riva, something or someone must be preventing them from doing so. They could be in a precarious situation.
Ferdinand and Alvis were both confident in their abilities, but they were in foreign territory. Anything could happen, which was why Alwin was concerned.
"It’s my fault he is there. I should go there and -"
