Chapter 471: Working in Her Study

Chapter 471: Working in Her Study

When Arabella woke up, she was alone in bed.

’He must have left to do his work. I should get ready. How long did I sleep?’

Arabella wore a robe and opened the curtains to get a peek outside. The sun was high up in the sky. She gasped at the realization, she was too late for work. It was already noon.

’What about Ivan and Ronald? How are they doing? They must be having their lunch at the moment.’

She had already given them their assigned work, but they might feel out of place and abandoned without their superior with them in a foreign place.

Especially, since Ivan and Ronald were both not allowed to roam freely.

One of Ferdinand’s people always accompanied each of them wherever they go so they would not notice that they were on a different continent entirely.

Arabella hadn’t had the chance to give any explanation about this place and the two were occupied with work that they didn’t even ask.

They must be wondering about it when they were in their own rooms but likely did not ask since they were not told.

One of the qualities of an assistant to royalty was to be able to judge when something had to be kept secret.

They surely figured that this location was not known to other people which was why only the two of them were taken here. And they must have understood that sometimes, knowing too much would only expose them to danger.

’I have to prepare too so I can work with them after lunch.’

Arabella then had her bath and her delayed morning preparations. It was already past lunch when she was done.

She thought of having a meal since her stomach was complaining. But she thought of checking on Ferdinand first.

He likely waited for her to wake up so they could eat together. But when she went to his study, he wasn’t there.

All the work that was once piled on his table for him to do were gone. His table was clean.

’He finished his work and already left?’ Arabella blinked twice.

She knew he must be in a hurry to return but the thought that he left without a word or a letter after they had an intimate night together didn’t feel nice.

’Wait, I can feel his presence on the other side,’ Arabella glanced to the side where she felt it and it was in the direction of her study.

Arabella headed to her study.

Rendell was about to open the door for her, but she gestured for him to stop. He thought she was going to Ferdinand’s study to check something so he did not tell her he was in her study.

She took a deep breath before slightly opening the door and peeking inside.

Ferdinand was indeed there. He was working on a document on her table, and he looked so focused.

’Eh? Almost all the piled-up documents on my table are gone. He did all of it?’ Arabella gawked. Then realized that since he had cleared all the documents he had to do in his office, he could, of course, do the work on her table quickly too.

’Did he not sleep a wink?’

She scanned the room and froze at the sight of her assistants. They both looked pale and exhausted like they might pass out any second.

’Are they feeling pressured because Ferdinand, the Emperor himself, was working with them?’

She watched them work and she was right.

[His Majesty works so quickly. How could this be? I have been trying to catch up to his pace, but I couldn’t. Are all the rumors about him false? I thought he usually focused on the military and left these matters to Raymond. Wait! Does this mean Raymond could work this fast too?!] Ronald was horrified.

It meant he had to improve so much more if he wanted to beat Raymond.

It was also clear that Ronald barely spoke with Raymond indeed. If he did, he would have known that Ferdinand does his part of the paperwork too.

[I need to work harder. How can His Majesty read so quickly? He quickly read one document to another and signed them. He’s truly reading those, right? I already read the fastest among Her Majesty’s assistants, but this is too much even for me. I must train more. I must have been slacking off if I am falling behind this much.] Ivan thought something was wrong with him and he was lacking in effort.

But Ivan and Ronald were not lacking at all.

’Ferdinand could read that quickly because he’s a dragon who had lived for so long,’ Arabella began to worry that these two might think they were very much lacking and overwork themselves in the future after seeing Ferdinand work.

If Raymond was here too, Ronald would likely be devastated to see that there was a huge gap between what they could do.

[Arabella’s presence just got close. Her scent got stronger too.] Ferdinand looked up and their eyes met.

"Arabella!" Ferdinand rose and was beside the door in a second. He opened it wide for her, but she could not really enter with him standing right in front of her.

’Wait! He just teleported. Ivan and Ronald don’t know he could use magic!’

"Good morning, I mean, good afternoon, Your Majesty," Arabella greeted formally.

’You shouldn’t use magic in front of my assistants,’ she whispered in case he was forgetting.

"Ah, about that, they already know," Ferdinand glanced at the two and they froze.

"What do you mean?" Arabella tilted her head and Ferdinand glanced at the chair he was sitting on. It wasn’t hers since her chair was much smaller.

’Ah, he must have made that chair with magic, in front of them.’

[His Majesty could even teleport?! I thought that was high-level magic that only those who learned for more than a decade could do. Just seeing him make that chair was already a shock.] Ronald thought.

[Doesn’t this make His Majesty truly invincible? People thought he was only good with military matters, but he could do office work too, and even use magic. I didn’t see him use magic even once last time. This must be a tightly kept secret. I wouldn’t die because of this, right? I’m just a commoner while Ronald is the Prime Minister’s younger brother so he would be spared.] Ivan was petrified.

’I have to get Ferdinand out of here before those two pass out,’ Arabella internally sighed.
