Chapter 470: A Bit of Teasing

[Then why are cheeks flushed? Her heartbeat is erratic too, I noticed since earlier.] Ferdinand frowned and checked Arabella again but found nothing wrong. [Wait... Was it because of me?]

Ferdinand picked it up late. It was because of him. He was elated by it and gave her a forehead kiss.

[She’s so adorable.]

’That feels nice.’ Arabella couldn’t help but smile. She gave him a peck on the cheek in return.

"Then, Ferdinand, let’s go eat first. Shall we?" Arabella invited for the nth time since if they were going to sleep together tonight, she knew she needed food to boost her stamina.

But Ferdinand didn’t look like he could be convinced otherwise. His arm was still around her waist and was not giving their body any space. She needed to give him a valid reason for delaying their intimate time.

Arabella smirked as she suddenly wanted to tease Ferdinand a bit, so she added, "I was very busy you know. I had been working all day and I think I deserve a meal."

"Right, sorry. That was selfish of me," Ferdinand reflected. [My human body would survive just fine even if I don’t eat for a week, but her frail body needs to be taken care of delicately.]

’Why does he still think I’m so frail when I can do several rounds with him?’ Arabella’s pride was hit a bit, so she continued.

"Oh, and I haven’t had enough sleep lately, so I think I’m going to sleep early tonight," she said, testing him.

[Right! It must be because she had to do my work and Raymond’s. I shouldn’t push her too much.]

"After you wake up then," Ferdinand gave her another peck.

’He’s so thoughtful.’

"I might wake up late," Arabella teased him more just to see his reaction.

"It’s alright. You can sleep as much as you want."

[I’ll do my work while she’s asleep so once she’s awake, I can spend time with her.]

"But I may sleep until noon," Arabella was already feeling guilty but she wanted to continue until he reacts.

[She had been deprived of sleep that much?! I really have to do as much work as I can so she would not be burdened like this.]

’Gosh, I love him!’ Arabella wanted to give him a kiss. He didn’t even notice she was teasing him and was just thinking about her well-being.

"Ah, but I might sleep until dinner time. Maybe, I’d even wake up the following day," Arabella made it more obvious so he would get it.

[Huh? That long is a bit...]

"Arabella, stop doing all the work you were doing. Eat properly and sleep on time and as much as you want. What the hell had you been up to since I was away? You are the one who kept telling me not to overwork but you are overworking yourself too much," Ferdinand suddenly scolded her.

Arabella couldn’t help laughing this time. Her husband is too serious. He did not even think that sleeping for that long was not normal for a human.

"Why are you laughing?"

"Haha. You really don’t get it, do you? I was just kidding. Humans don’t sleep that long."

"R-right." Ferdinand blinked twice. "Then... were you just saying those because you don’t want to do it with me?"

Arabella chuckled again. The look on his face was epic. But she didn’t want him to overthink, so she clarified it quickly. After all, he was always so kind to her. Even when she was just teasing him, he was worried about her instead. She’d love to give him a lot of loving, but she’ll save it for after dinner. She needed lots of energy and stamina for that.

"I just wanted to tease you and see how you would react. I wish you could see the look on your face right now. Haha."

"You!" Ferdinand held her a bit too tightly with both arms to punish her. "How can you be so mean? I missed you so much, do you know that? Should I do it right here, right now so you’d understand my longing?"

"No, no, no. I’m sorry. Later, okay?" Arabella gave him pecks but he still gave her a disapproving look. "What I meant was, let’s eat first so there would be no distractions later."

"Oh, I see. I like the sound of that. I’ll have you all to myself tonight. No distractions. You better keep that in mind," Ferdinand smirked and gave her a kiss before they finally proceeded to the dining hall.

They both enjoyed a meal together and took a stroll in the garden by the lake where the fireflies were abundant, for some sort of date.

After that, Ferdinand gave her some time to prepare and do her daily routine by listening to reports from Rendell and Riley first.

Once that was done, it was only then that Ferdinand went to his room where Arabella was waiting for him.

He was just wearing a bathrobe and even though his hair was already dry (dried with magic), she could tell from the scent that he was fresh from the bath and didn’t bother dressing up since he would get it all off anyway.

Arabella was the same. She was only wearing a robe too but she still wore her nightgown inside it.

Upon closing the door, Ferdinand gazed at her as approached and he looked like a predator ready to devour his prey. But she was a willing prey. Or rather, she was looking forward to being devoured.

"Arabella..." was the only word Ferdinand said before he pushed her down the bed. Her name sounded so beautiful the way he said it.

Arabella reached out and held him too, responding to his eager kiss with her own.

For now, they didn’t need any more words between them. They both wanted each other.

That night, Ferdinand was different from how he usually was when they were making love.

Arabella could feel that even if he didn’t say it, he was searching for comfort from her.

And so, she gave him all the comfort he needed or wanted from her.

Or rather, they comforted each other.
