Chapter 461: She Would Be Punished Accordingly

’It was NARCISSA?!!’ Arabella’s brows furrowed deeply. That was unexpected. She thought it wasn’t someone among her assistants who did this Ivan.

Arabella now understood why Raymond and Ronald hesitated. Narcissa was a favorite of her family. She was another pride of the Ryvalehs. She was pampered a lot.

’But why would she do this to Ivan? Does this mean this is a matter of attitude? Did she become rotten due to too much love? Or she became entitled because of all the support and praises she received from her family? Or is she among the nobles who didn’t like commoners to be mixed in with them at work?’ Arabella pondered over it.

But more importantly, she needed to have Ivan’s injuries healed. Ivan indeed reeked of blood. Her senses had been enhanced ever since Ferdinand had been giving her some of his mana every day.

"Riley, please heal my assistant," Arabella instructed.

"Yes, Your Majesty," Riley quickly obeyed. He was relieved he wasn’t scolded for not healing Ivan much sooner.

[I was supposed to heal him after noticing his injuries, but His Excellency stopped me, saying Her Majesty should see it for herself.] Riley glanced at Raymond.

[Her Majesty must have realized it by now since she stopped asking who it was. Did Ronald or Ivan think about her or was it, Riley?] Raymond wondered.

"My apologies, Your Majesty. It was a failure on my part for failing to remove her from the lists I handed you. She was indeed very much capable, but I didn’t know she had attitude problems. I thought she would know her place since it was the Imperial Palace. But it seems I expected too much," Raymond was speaking formally since clueless Ronald was here.

"Who are we talking about?" Arabella asked but despite already knowing who it was.

[It was him who recommended us?!] Ivan and Ronald were both wide-eyed.

Raymond glanced at Riley for him to be the one to say it since they both knew Arabella only needed someone to say it out loud.

Riley was someone from the magic tower so the most powerful families would not be able to threaten him. After all, he was the direct assistant of Alwin, the Master of the Magic Tower himself.

"It was Narcissa Ryvaleh, Your Majesty. We saw happened to see her slap your assistant earlier," Riley answered for Raymond since the latter did not want to say it himself since Clarisse was his wife.

"And she also had someone injure Ivan like this?" Arabella continued.

"My apologies, Your Majesty. We are not aware of the details. Shall we hear it from your assistant? I am also curious about how things ended up like this. I had been sending one of my assistants to check on them on a weekly basis. I even visit them myself when I had the time. But we didn’t notice something like this was going on," Raymond spoke this time.

[Is he saying I shouldn’t tell Her Majesty what really happened? Or is he implying that I lied since he even went himself and did not notice anything amiss? I wasn’t injured or anything during the times he visited. And Narcissa always behaved well inside the office. She spoke rudely and did things where no one could see or hear us. His Excellency even implied that he was the one who gave Her Majesty a list of recommendations. Is he saying I should be grateful and shut my mouth as my way of giving gratitude? I am indeed grateful he had me in his list. It meant he noticed what I could do. But how could I lie to Her Majesty now that she already knew it was Narcissa?] Ivan misunderstood Raymond’s intention. He was overanalyzing things.

"Let’s go to my study then so we could listen to Ivan’s story and discuss this matter properly," Arabella invited.

"Of course, Your Majesty. I had warned Narcissa to behave in the interim. Please decide how to punish her after you know the details," Raymond glanced at Ivan and the latter flinched.

[Why does he look scared of me? Is it because he knew my wife is from the Ryvalehs?]

They then headed to Arabella’s study.

"Ivan, everyone here is a witness of the state of your injuries. I believe those injuries couldn’t be self-inflicted just to get my attention or my pity, am I right?" Arabella began.

"Yes, Your Majesty. I would never dare hurt myself like this just to be pitied. And I would never dare get Your Majesty’s attention with something like this. I only try to get my superiors’ attention with the quality of my work," Ivan promised. He froze when he recalled Raymond and Ronald and looked at them through his peripheral vision, not daring to glance directly.

"It’s okay. They have seen your injuries and had witnessed Narcissa slap you, herself. If it’s proven that she was the perpetrator in all these, she would be punished accordingly. So, I need you to tell me the truth. Please tell us exactly what happened as is, without exaggeration or understatement. Start your story from when this begun. Whether it be words or acts of insult, bullying of any sort, and the like before the physical violence began up to what just happened earlier that she gave you a slap. Fear not, I will ask someone to protect your family and I will not allow you to be hurt like this again," Arabella assured him. She knew that even if Ferdinand didn’t like her being surrounded by men, he would dislike this incident.

Hurting her assistant was an insult to her. And Ferdinand would not accept this sitting down.

Arabella would not allow her people to be bullied like this either even if it was someone from her own assistants.

"Thank you very much, Your Majesty," Ivan bowed so low both in relief and gratitude.

’Narcissa is indeed very much capable. It’s such a waste to fire her. But if we could not set her straight, I can hire someone from the other families instead. I don’t need someone who is this violent to her workmates. They are a lot of families eager to prove their worth. Ivan is an important part of my plans. I cannot have her ruin him, especially since he’s the most capable among my assistants.’
