Chapter 456: Search for Alwin
Chapter 456: Search for Alwin
"Arabella, please excuse me for a bit. I need to be in my original body," Ferdinand vanished before she could reply.
Arabella waited for him to return but an entire hour passed, and he wasn’t back yet.
’I can feel Ferdinand’s presence coming from that direction,’ she glanced at part of the mansion where his dragon body was in.
"Rendell, you could feel Ferdinand’s presence too, right? Can you lead me where he is?" Arabella inquired.
[Something urgent must have come up for my lord to leave her like this. What was it about? Would it be alright if I lead her there?] Rendell hesitated but when Arabella showed him, she was determined so he agreed in the end.
"What does it mean for Ferdinand not to feel Alwin’s presence?" Arabella asked while they were walking, and Rendell froze and stared at her wide-eyed.
"Is that why His Majesty suddenly left?" Rendell inquired instead of answering her question.
"Yes. He thought he could not feel it all. Why? What does it mean?" Arabella asked again and Rendell swallowed hard.
’Why are they overreacting? Are they feeling on edge because of it just like the way I did when I could not feel Ferdinand’s presence? I thought that was only for mates,’ Arabella was puzzled.
"Your Majesty, it may be better not to go and see His Majesty at the moment. I recommend going to your room or your study."
"Why?"
"His Majesty should be able to feel Alwin’s presence no matter where he went. Alwin’s mana is so abundant and powerful that the feeling of his presence is on par with that of a dragon. It was extremely rare to have someone like him. Dragons feel each other’s presence even when they are in hibernation. Thus, His Majesty should be able to feel Alwin’s presence no matter what," Rendell explained for her to understand.
It meant that not feeling Alwin’s presence meant something could have happened.
[They would know if someone died because the presence of that dragon would vanish. What happened to Alwin?!] Rendell was on edge now too.
Arabella was in a panic too after realizing Alwin could have died.
’No. No. That won’t happen. Alwin is powerful and strong. He didn’t die even when he kept fighting monsters for years when he went to Umbra in the past life. He also had memories of the past. Would the gods give him those memories only to let him die in a foreign place?’
Arabella strongly denied that something could have happened to Alwin.
’He’s my only friend in this life. Please don’t let anything happen to him,’ Arabella prayed to the gods she knew.
She and Alwin had finally been getting along despite still annoying each at times. She couldn’t lose him now. She was her only ally who knew about her greatest secret as well. And most especially, Ferdinand would be greatly saddened if something happened to Alwin.
Rendell said that Ferdinand must be trying to find Alwin using the senses of his original body. Thus, it would be better not to disturb him while he was trying to focus.
Arabella then agreed that it was best not to disturb Ferdinand. She ended up too on edge as well that she decided to do some work to distract herself from negative thoughts while waiting for Ferdinand to return.
Rendell then walked her to her study, and she drowned herself in work.
However, three days and three nights passed, and Ferdinand didn’t go and see her even once.
Arabella ended up losing her appetite since she had to eat and sleep alone. She then focused on doing work from the Imperial Palace in place of Ferdinand and Raymond.
Raymond had returned to Estrella when he stopped feeling Alwin’s presence. It was so he could try to check it using his original body.
However, both Ferdinand and Raymond did not feel even a tiny speck of Alwin’s presence. Thus, they sent people to search for Alwin in the entire human realm and search for entrance gates to Umbra. But there was still no success.
Ferdinand and Raymond were also meditating. They were trying to find Alwin’s presence and the gate to Umbra using their powers. But even their efforts hadn’t borne fruit.
Arabella had gone to visit Ferdinand and Raymond where they were meditating but both had no reaction to her presence. Their eyes and senses were focused far, far away than she could ever imagine. It was to the point that they may have not even noticed her visiting them.
Since the two were busy searching for Alwin, Arabella did the work necessary for the Imperial Palace to continue moving. There were so many documents that were piled up, so she focused her energy there instead to stop herself from panicking.
Riley went back and forth from Valeria to Estrella bringing her the work that needed to be done. In Riva, he was pretending to be Raymond so no one would know that the Prime Minister was also not around.
However, on the fifth day, Arabella decided to disturb Ferdinand and Raymond since their human body needed to be sustained. They hadn’t eaten anything since they began meditating.
"Ferdinand. Please rest for a bit and eat," Arabella touched Ferdinand three times before he finally responded. His eyes finally looked at her.
"Arabella!" Ferdinand grabbed her and embraced her tight. "I’m so sorry for suddenly leaving you like this. I was searching for Alwin. And yet, I hadn’t been able to find anything."
"Yes. I understand. I hope you find him soon. Alwin is strong. I’m sure he is doing well. He would be angry if he finds out you are not eating anything. Please return to your human body for a bit and sustain it," Arabella pointed out.
Ferdinand glanced at Raymond.
{Keep watch for me. Let’s take turns to eat. After I’m done, eat and go visit your wife. She must be worried as well that you suddenly left.}
{Yes, my lord.}
