Chapter 433: Sent to the Past [Bonus Chapter]
[We rarely encounter each other. But at that time, they came to me on their own because I was behaving like a brat. And they were so much bigger and more powerful than I was at that time.] Ferdinand thought.
"Oh, they were?" Arabella got wanted to know more.
"Yes. But I eventually caught up after some time. It was just because I was the last one created among the primordial dragons. They had a head start," Ferdinand clarified, not wanting to seem weak to her.
"Oh, you were the youngest?" Arabella tilted her head. That was something new she learned about her husband again.
"Yes, something like that. But only because I was the last one to be created among the primordial dragons. And I wasn’t weaker than the others at all."
[Tsk. Why did I have to be the youngest among them?] He thought and Arabella giggled.
"You don’t have to worry about things like that. I know you are very strong. And even if you had weaknesses, I don’t mind them at all," she assured her husband.
Ferdinand was glad she thought that way, but he still did not want to seem weak to her so she let it be.
[Her nightmare was far too detailed to be a dream. Instead of a dream, it was as if someone let her get a peek at my memories.]
"Arabella, can you let me check you for a second," Ferdinand said and she nodded.
’He’s right. It’s far too detailed to be a dream. And I remember it all upon waking up. Since it jives with what he remembers, then, perhaps I was indeed given a peek at his memories. Or if I was Ellie in my past life, then it was my past self’s memory from a very long time ago.’
Ferdinand’s eyes glowed as he examined her.
"Hmm. Nothing seems to be wrong," Ferdinand said, then frowned. "No, a part of your soul seems to have ventured into the past again. But since it wasn’t in your own past, it was in mine instead? You said that back then, I look in your direction at times, right?"
"Y-yes," Arabella replied nervously.
’This wouldn’t give him a clue about my secret, right? Venturing into the past is completely different from being reborn again in the same life.’
[I do recall a third party that was always present beside me at that time. I didn’t feel ill-will towards me so I just let it be. If it was her, then I felt her presence but I was never able to touch her no matter how many times I tried. I thought she was my savior’s friend at first but they never interacted. She just followed me around. And she was gone after I went berserk so I thought she was a part of my benefactor’s soul. Could that be Arabella? Did someone bring her soul to that time in the past? But why?]
"It’s just a theory for now. But I think someone brought your soul to the past if you were the one that I had been sensing at that time. I could not see your appearance so I didn’t know what you were exactly. Just something transparent in the shape of something I thought was mini-human or fairy size. In your dream, did I try to touch you with my claws a lot of times?"
Arabella was wide-eyed at that. "Yes, you did. You seemed so shocked the first few times when your claws passed through me."
"I remember that!" Ferdinand was wide-eyed too.
[It was her?! I already encountered her so long ago? But why was she sent there?]
Ferdinand concluded that her soul had indeed ventured into the past. But the motive of whoever did it was still unknown.
They settled to observe what happens the following nights. Staying in Estrella and being in the presence of his original body, exposed to a lot of his mana was affecting her, or receiving his mana could also be the cause.
Arabella then continued with her inquiries since she still had more questions for him.
"The humans back then were so huge. Including everything in the surroundings. Is that how everything was in the past?" Her curiosity was still at work.
"Ah, yes. The humans before that generation were even larger. All primordial creations were so much bigger than the ones you see today. Everything gradually grew smaller as the world’s mana began to be used up and the resources grew much lesser."
Ferdinand further explained that due to his awfully long lifespan, the growth of his body was delayed when compared to humans and other creations back then that grew much faster. He said he did not notice at all until he began leaving the island to search for other kinds of food.
That was why, back then, he was smaller than the humans of that time because his growth had not caught up yet. Further, he could already understand human language but cannot speak to humans yet because he was used to communicating telepathically as he does with his fellow primordial dragons.
"Oh, and everything back then also had longer lifespans. Animals could live for hundreds of years to thousands when not hunted by predators. Humans usually lived up to 1000 or 2000 years old before dying. There were even those who managed to live up to 3000 years old. Magicians could live to up to 5000 or beyond if they were able to learn how to prolong their life."
"Wow. Everyone was like the long-lived races. Then doesn’t that mean, all the long-lived races had even longer lifespans?"
"Yes."
Ferdinand said that dragons, elves, and giants were among the ones with the longest lifespan. But after living for so long and watching generations come and go, the primordial giants were among the first who chose to sleep for as long as they could.
"The Primordial giants were bigger than the mountains you see today. They could reach the clouds when they rose. But the generation following them was half their size. And they grew even smaller in size with time."
