Chapter 432: I Don’t Recall

"Ferdinand, you truly went through all that?"

"No. I’m strong, why would something like that happen," Ferdinand’s eyes were elsewhere as he replied. He was trying to deny it because he did not want to seem weak.

"Ferdinand, I just want to know the truth. I won’t be able to stop thinking about it after having such a long dream," Arabella pushed.

[Right. It must be bothering her.]

"I, I did. But it’s so long ago. I vaguely remember the details. I only recalled most of it now that you told me about your nightmare in detail," Ferdinand said like it was nothing.

"Oh, my goodness! You really went through something so horrible," Arabella’s eyes welled up all on their own as she thought about how painful and traumatic all of those must have been.

[Is she crying for me?] Ferdinand was conflicted about how he should feel. It made him happy that she was crying for his sake. But it made him feel bad seeing her cry like this.

"I’m fine now. I’m sorry you had to see that. It must have been hard for you," Ferdinand embraced her and rubbed her back.

It made her cry even more now that he was here to comfort her. She wanted to comfort him after watching the past him go on a rampage, but she was the one getting comforted instead.

"No, I’m fine. You were the one who suffered," she tried to dry her tears. "I just feel bad that you went through something like that."

"That was when I was just a weak child. I haven’t learned a lot of things yet so I was weak. But I’m strong now so you don’t have to worry. Something like that won’t happen ever again."

"You were not weak at all. You were already so strong back then. I saw you hunt lots of prey. And you survived everything they made you go through," Arabella corrected.

Ferdinand smiled and kissed her forehead. It was so reassuring that she just stayed in his arms for a while. She did miss him a lot.

When she calmed down, Arabella finally recalled she had a lot of questions.

"Ferdinand, do you remember what the lady who saved you looked like?" This question was very important for Arabella. Ellie may have been her in the past life. Or perhaps a relative of her ancestors.

But what Arabella wanted to know was, did Ferdinand like her because she resembled Ellie so much? Was that among the reasons why he liked her the instant they met?

Ellie was a kind person. And Arabella was very much thankful for her. But it somehow didn’t feel right if her husband was projecting his regrets of the past on her. If he liked her and pursued her because of a past loss and regret.

"The one who saved me? No. I no longer recall her appearance. Not even her name. It had been too long since then," Ferdinand tried to think about it, but nothing came to his mind.

Arabella was relieved that he wasn’t projecting Ellie on her. But likewise, she felt bad for Ellie who had been so kind to him.

"Then, what do you recall about her?"

"I recall she’s a very kind lady. She’s good with weapons and a good magician. She also had a pure and beautiful soul. Ah, and now that thought about it, I think she was very pretty. But of course, you are prettier," Ferdinand was quick to praise her more, how smooth.

’Of course, she was pretty. We looked alike after all.’

They had so many differences, but they were alike in a lot of things too. It somehow felt weird hearing Ferdinand had so much praise for another woman. But Ellie looked like her anyway. And she was Ferdinand’s savior, so Arabella just let it pass.

She’s glad Ferdinand at least remembered those details about Ellie. She may be long gone but Ferdinand still remembers that a kind lady once saved his life.

"She’s my benefactor and first friend. She was also the first human who treated me kindly. I thought I was going to die back then. And I swore to hate humans, but then, unexpectedly, it was also another human came to my rescue. Because of that, I learned when I was young that there was both evil and good in various races, so I didn’t necessarily hate every human because of what I experienced. And now, my wife is a human too," Ferdinand caressed her cheek.

"I see," Arabella smiled.

[Ah, but I did kill a lot of humans when I lost my senses that time.] Ferdinand scratched the back of his head and looked away when he recalled that he razed an entire city.

No, from his thoughts, Arabella learned that he ruined the entire island itself with only Ellie’s Mountain spared.

"Right, when did you stop going on a rampage? How did you calm down?" Arabella inquired.

"Ah, that I ended up going berserk out of fury. The water and earth dragons both came to stop me because I was ruining part of their territories too. The earth dragon fought with me until I used up all my mana and strength. Then the water dragon calmed me down and healed me since I ended up overusing my powers. I got scolded a lot too," Ferdinand said in embarrassment.

He didn’t want to tell her about it since he thought it was embarrassing but he had no choice since she saw him rampaging in her nightmare.

"I see. Thank goodness they came to see you."

At least he wasn’t all alone during such a time when he lost someone precious for the first time. And even if they did not leave like family, they seemed to have looked out for each other in their own ways.

[We rarely encounter each other. But at that time, they came to me on their own because I was behaving like a brat. And they were so much bigger and more powerful than I was at that time.]
