Chapter 405: The Mission

Chapter 405: The Mission

Arabella talked with her mother and brother for a while and said their goodbyes. She assured them she would be mighty fine in Valeria, so they had nothing to worry about.

Alwin and Rendell also assured them that they would do their best to protect her no matter what so she would not be harmed in any way.

When Arabella’s family left, Alwin took the chance to speak with her in private.

"Zion will take care of this monster attack since as I have told you before, I would head to Evania’s home," he reminded.

Alwin informed her that they had called Zion this morning since they assumed Lindon’s comrades might begin their moves once the Assembly was over. But the attack came earlier.

Thankfully, Zion was already there and he was the one tasked to tail Lindon’s comrades this time since Alwin had already told Ferdinand about his plan to go to Evania’s home once the Assembly was over.

Zion hadn’t returned yet, so they were still waiting for his report. Still, whether Zion returned soon or not, Alwin would leave once Arabella and Ferdinand were in Estrella.

"I have to leave earlier than supposed to be since Evania had already encountered Chester and Fatima. She might meet Marcus in one way or another and get the chance to speak with him. After visiting here with Chester, he may have already learned about everything earlier than supposed to be too. If he tells her that your mother was the woman Chester had once loved and obsessed about, she might begin plotting to use you. So before they team up, I will go and inform her people that she’s here. They would surely come to fetch her," Alwin sounded confident about it.

"Earlier than supposed to be? So, in the past, you also went to inform her family she was in Valeria?" Arabella shifted in her seat.

"Yes. That was when I left the Magic Tower. I went to search for an entry to the continent I told you before. It took years before I found one. I was able to enter, but it also took me years to find their abode."

"So that was the mission Ferdinand gave you back then?!" Arabella was wide-eyed. Everyone thought Alwin failed the unknown mission Ferdinand gave him and died. Who would have thought he was searching for a way to reach Evania’s family?

"Yes. In the past life, there was a time I asked His Majesty to allow some of my limiters to be lifted. It was then that I sensed that her soul wasn’t that of a human. And she wasn’t really tied down to her body since it wasn’t hers."

Alwin finally told her what the other continent was called since Ferdinand and the King of Estrella had permitted him.

The other continent was called Umbra.

’Could they be related?’ Arabella wondered if it was just a coincidence that it had the same with the organization Adolfo created.

"I know what you are thinking. It has nothing to do with Adolfo’s organization," Alwin corrected.

"Oh, I see. That’s a relief then," she was grateful the two were not related since she didn’t like Adolfo’s Umbra.

Alwin then told her that he went to Umbra to investigate further about Renee’s true identity.

However, when he got into Umbra, he got lost a lot and wandered for a while due to the magic protecting it. And it wasn’t like Estrella or the human kingdoms.

In Umbra, Alwin discovered that monsters roamed freely. Upon Arrival, he had to fight a lot of monsters constantly wherever he went so he was never truly able to enter the inner part of the continent where he could feel the same presence as Evania’s.

It wasn’t until he earned the curiosity of the strong fighters in Umbra since he kept killing monster after monster that attacked him.

They wanted to know who the intruder was that could tirelessly kill a lot of the monsters that lurked there without even fighting them directly. They realized he could be a threat to them, so they came to find him.

It was then that Alwin was able to enter. He allowed himself to be caught.

"What?! Isn’t that dangerous? They didn’t torture you, did they?" Arabella was horrified.

Alwin took so many risks just to find out about Renee’s real identity. And he even allowed himself to be caught in a foreign continent which could have led to all sorts of horrifying things.

Sometimes, she couldn’t help but think that Ferdinand, Alwin, and the others were too confident in themselves when it comes to their fighting abilities. Even if Alwin was powerful, what if something went wrong?

"They didn’t since I happened to have information about someone they had been looking for."

"Then, if they didn’t, you could have been tortured for suspicions of being a spy or something like that?"

She had heard a lot of kingdoms do that when there are intruders that suddenly breach their borders.

"I would have been able to escape. I can, at least, teleport back to the human realm in case my life was truly in danger. Or I could have used this," Alwin showed her one of the rings he was wearing.

It had an insignia the same as Ferdinand’s and his palace back in Estrella.

"In case of emergency, I can use this ring to be teleported directly to His Majesty’s palace in Estrella."

They had apparently set it up to ensure none of them got stuck in the human realm or anywhere else, especially in the worst case that they were weakened or severely injured.

Ferdinand would not have cared to do such a thing before. But after humanity almost wiped out the long-lived races, they had to be wary. Thus, he made Alwin and everyone else wear a ring like his.

"I see. Thank goodness you had a backup plan," Arabella sighed in relief.

"Of course, I do," Alwin replied smugly.

"Yes, yes. Then what happened after you were caught?" Arabella could bear such smugness since she knew he was indeed very much capable.
