Chapter 404: Draconic Aura
Chapter 404: Draconic Aura
"The elder said you have encountered someone with draconic aura, and it had taken an interest in you to have left a protection barrier around you with coated with his aura. She said it was the opportunity to end the monster attacks on you since they apparently fear those who are powerful enough to vanquish their existence. It was then that she suggested we marry you to someone with a draconic aura since he would be able to ward off the monsters just by his presence."
’Eh? Was the elder referring to Ferdinand?’ Arabella wondered.
[Ah, they must be referring to His Majesty’s mana. The said Elder was probably able to feel or see the mana from the protection barrier His Majesty cast on her since he didn’t want to leave her defenseless.] Alwin thought.
Because of the monster attack earlier, Ferdinand instructed them to remain just two steps away from her, so they were standing behind her. Her mother and brother understood the situation. They were rather more relieved that they were not leaving Arabella all alone even inside the mansion.
Arabella learned from Alwin’s thoughts that Ferdinand created the spell and barrier himself just to ensure she was safe. He found it a hassle how he had to draw magic circles or chant spells and the like to be able to cast here himself but he still did anyway instead of just letting Alwin cast it.
Alwin and Rendell looked away when she glanced at them. They were wondering if Elder Satara was truly a human or someone from the long-lived races. They wanted to meet her someday to check.
"We thought the one Elder Satara mentioned was among the Hazania knights who saved you, so we did our best to find them for months."
But of course, her parents were not able to find them. Her family did not know that it was Ferdinand, Raymond, and Alwin who saved her and her knights back then.
Since there were no records of them in Hazania, her parents asked Elder Satara to help them choose among those who wanted to marry her. And among the portraits they presented the elder, she picked King Icarus’. She said he didn’t have a draconic aura, but she could tell he was far stronger than the rumors say, and he may be able to protect Arabella.
It was not guaranteed though. Thus, the Elder asked her parents to give her portraits of every eligible bachelor in Eliora. And among thick piles of paper, Elder Satara picked one with her eyes closed. She said it had the draconic aura that was on Arabella after the attack on Mt. Callion.
When her parents checked who it was, it was Ferdinand’s portrait. They hesitated because of his reputation. But the Elder said they didn’t need to do anything since destiny had already set its course. She said the stars will move on their own.
Then one day, her family received a proposal from Valeria. The Elder said it was their one and only chance. Thus, after thinking about it for a while, her parents accepted it despite Benjamin’s opposition.
Her parents trusted the Elder’s words since her advice to them even long before that had always worked. And most especially since no monster attacked Arabella again ever since the Elder said a protective barrier oozing with draconic aura was cast around her.
And before accepting Ferdinand’s marriage proposal, they asked him if he would treasure Arabella and keep her safe. Ferdinand said he would and swore to protect her no matter what even if it cost him his life.
Her parents did not understand back then why Ferdinand was able to say such things. But after seeing how Ferdinand gazed at and treated her during the Assembly, they figured he must have fallen for her.
"Since you said monsters have not attacked you in Valeria, what the Elder recommended seems to be working. But the humanoid monster came to attack where we were earlier. I don’t know how else to interpret it. You had been attacked by monsters since you were young. It makes me worry that they might begin attacking you again," her mother held her hand and squeezed tightly.
"I will be fine, Mother. Rendell and Alwin are both here to guard me. And my husband can vanquish any monster that comes," Arabella confidently replied.
"Oh my, it seems you have indeed grown fond of your husband," her mother smiled while Benjamin pouted.
"Yes, he is so kind and reliable," Arabella beamed.
{Can I tell them that the one who saved me last time was Ferdinand?} she asked Alwin, and he nodded.
"Oh, and by the way, I learned when I was in Valeria that the one who saved me that time in Mt. Callion is Ferdinand."
"The portraits were different though," her mother and Benjamin pointed out since the knights and maids drew portraits of the three.
"Yes, because they used magic to disguise themselves. Ferdinand went hunting monsters on Mt Callion that day, but it might create issues if someone spotted him, so they had to be in disguise. Ferdinand was Sir Elmir. Prime Minister Raymond was Sir Rowan. The magician with them was Alwin but he disguised himself as Zion," Arabella explained.
Benjamin and their mother glanced at Alwin. Alwin then changed into Zion’s appearance to prove Arabella’s words.
"My apologies. We didn’t mean to deceive you by introducing ourselves as someone else. We were not supposed to show ourselves to other people back then, but we heard Her Majesty’s scream. But we could not reveal who we truly were due to the circumstances," Alwin explained.
"I see. Thank you for saving my daughter and her knights and maids back then."
"It was our pleasure, Your Majesty. We only did as we should. And thanks to that encounter, our esteemed Emperor finally fell in love and got married," Alwin replied politely.
He was always polite and respectful to everyone else. Only Arabella and his elders knew how childish he was sometimes. And only she, probably knew how rude he could be.
"Oh, I see... So that was when they first met," her mother slowly nodded her head, finally understanding why Ferdinand could promise to protect Arabella even with his life.
Benjamin was conflicted about how he should feel about it, but he also understood now why Ferdinand suddenly proposed. He was relieved it was because he already got attracted to her.
"Yes, Ferdinand said he wanted to propose right away but they had to prepare so he waited for a year," Arabella proudly bragged since it was just her family with her anyway.
"Of course, it’s our Ella after all," Benjamin was proud too.
Their mother chuckled at how childish they were.
Alwin wanted to contradict them and speak for his lord, but he could not deny it since it was a fact.
