Chapter 333: Renee’s Life as Evelyn [Bonus Chapter]

"Do you believe in reincarnation, Your Majesty?" Renee inquired first.

"Yes. I heard from the elders in Lobelius that when people die, they pass on to the next life."

It was common among the elders to tell youngsters to behave well so they would have a good future in the next life.

Arabella didn’t believe in it before, but she does now. And Renee was proof of it.

[She does? Does the Great Temple highly influence Lobelius? I didn’t believe in reincarnation, the afterlife, or the next life for that matter when I was Evelyn. I only realized it was true when it happened to me.]

"That’s right, Your Majesty. We go to the next life after death. But we are not supposed to have memories of our previous lives," Renee explained. "But I do. I remember my previous lives. This is my third life."

"T-third life?! You have already lived two lives before this? And you remember them both?" Arabella was astounded. She thought Renee only remembered being Evelyn. Their situation was alike and different at the same time.

[Does she believe me?]

"Yes, Your Majesty. My second life was of a sickly young lady who died early. And my first was Queen Evelyn of the Zygos Kingdom. I was once the wife of Chester."

Renee revealed that as Evelyn, she was the eldest daughter of the most powerful duke in Zygos. Her father ruled the Leonhart Dukedom which rivaled the royal family’s wealth and power.

As the eldest daughter, Evelyn’s marriage was arranged to be with the first-born son of the king who was likely to succeed to the throne.

Thus, she was supposed to marry the first prince. But the first prince died at sea in a storm.

Due to such an unfortunate incident, Evelyn was to be engaged to the second prince, Chester, who was likely to be the next heir in terms of birthright.

However, Chester’s younger siblings had more support than he had. They had more power and influence.

Yet, the Leonharts still decided to engage Evelyn with Chester. It was because Chester was not as influential or powerful as the other princes. And thus, he was easier to sway since he lacked backing.

The Leonharts wanted a king they could control. Thus, they married Evelyn to Chester. With the Leonharts’ backing, the scales were tipped, and they were able to make Chester the new king of Zygos.

Evelyn thought that Chester was much better than the first prince or his other brothers since he was more mild-mannered and had a smiley face. Chester was known to be kind and gentle too.

But Evelyn and everyone else couldn’t be more wrong. Chester was hiding something dark behind his kind demeanor. And Evelyn only learned about it after they got married.

Chester was violent and rough in bed. Evelyn feared he might kill her on their first night together. Thus, she was relieved when he didn’t visit her chambers the following days.

But a few days later, she learned why when she visited Chester’s chambers since her family was pressuring her for an heir.

Evelyn was shocked to discover that Chester was sleeping with another woman. She run back to her room without saying a word as she tried to process it.

In the following days, Evelyn silently went near her husband’s chambers every night and he was with a different woman every time.

He was a cheater. He slept around with a new lady almost every single day. And their maids and butlers clearly knew about it but didn’t dare say a single word.

Evelyn was somewhat relieved though that she didn’t have to be the one to sleep with him since he was scary in bed.

But her relief was only for a short time. Chester still visited her chambers since they needed an heir from her. Her family would not accept an heir from another woman. Thus, she still suffered nights with Chester.

Evelyn got tired of Chester’s cheating and violence and told him she would tell her family if he didn’t stop. But instead of stopping, Chester threatened her to be silent and became more violent instead.

Chester also blamed Evelyn as the reason why he was not able to marry the love of his life, a woman from Eliora.

’That’s not my mother, right?’ Arabella had a bad feeling about it. ’Wouldn’t that be too much of a coincidence?’

Chester compared Evelyn day and night to the prettier women he had met before.

Evelyn was also pretty, but he talked down to her and emphasized that she was nothing compared to the love of his life who was the most beautiful woman he had ever met.

He had all sorts of praises for the lady he failed to marry while all he had about Evelyn were complaints about her and her family for pressuring him to do this and that.

Chester badmouthed her and beat her worst every time her family made him do difficult things.

She tried talking to her family to stop making Chester do whatever they wanted but she got scolded by them as well instead.

Evelyn’s family had spies all over the palace, so after a few more months, they surely knew Chester was cheating on her and beating her up, but they didn’t really care about her.

All they wanted was for her to give birth to an heir that they could directly manipulate and be much more obedient compared to Chester.

One day, Evelyn noticed that a lot of her important pieces of jewelry kept going missing one after the other. Even the ones Chester gave her for formalities sake.

She thought Chester wouldn’t care about it since he didn’t like her anyway. But when Chester noticed that Evelyn was not wearing any of it during official events, he discovered that almost all the gifts he gave her were missing.

Chester got angry and suspected her of cheating. He thought that Evelyn was using her jewelry to support a poor lover.
