Chapter 321: Explanations

Arabella held her husband’s hand. She knew he was overthinking things again. That tendency of his hadn’t changed.

[She also noticed?! Did she hear the rumors about me and Icarus almost having a duel last time?] Ferdinand was wide-eyed.

Arabella smiled at her husband when he glanced at her. She wanted to assure him there was nothing to worry about since she was on his side even if Benjamin or her family was not.

Ferdinand sighed in relief when he understood what she meant. He smiled and kissed the back of her hand.

[He smiled?! He even kissed the back of her hand so lovingly. Is this really the same Ferdinand that I know?] Icarus was shocked. He still had misunderstandings about Arabella and Ferdinand’s marriage.

[Get a room.] Benjamin rolled his eyes. He was actually relieved though that Ferdinand did not get angry.

[He seems to truly treasure my sister though. He did not attend the Assembly meetings ever since she got poisoned. I heard he was devastated and stayed by her side the whole time. But he could have allowed even just Mother to see Ella when she was unconscious. Mother was too worried and could not even eat but he still did not let her see Ella.]

Benjamin was still wary of Ferdinand and was quite confused or rather, perplexed that they did not allow anyone from their side to see Arabella even once.

They were Arabella’s family first and foremost. Thus, not allowing them to see her even once almost implied that Ferdinand didn’t trust them and suspected that they may have been involved in the poisoning.

Ferdinand unintentionally offended her family due to it. Especially since they had been so worried about her condition and wanted to see how she was doing.

No wonder only Benjamin was the only one who smiled since they entered and it was even faked.

After being a parent once, Arabella understood how her parents would have felt. If Fermin was in a critical condition, she would have certainly wanted to be by his side no matter what.

However, it was because they were in Estrella that no one was allowed to see her. They could have allowed her family to see her while they were in Medeus though. But Ferdinand was probably too worried to even think about such things.

"My apologies for not allowing everyone to see my wife the past few days. Her life was in danger and I was at a loss for what to do. I was too worried about her to think of anything else but having her cured," Ferdinand explained.

[Ferdinand is speaking so humbly and politely because he was in the presence of her family? And did he really just say he was worried and at a loss for what to do? Ferdinand would have never shown any sign of weakness before, even in how he phrased his words.] Icarus could not believe what he was hearing.

’Ferdinand had already changed. And he is more expressive now. He doesn’t have to keep everything hidden all the time,’ Arabella wanted to say.

"I also did not want to take any risk so I didn’t allow anyone else to get near her. Only Alwin and me. Only after the poison was detoxified and her condition seemed to have stabilized did I allow her most trusted maid to take care of her. But only after we ensured there was nothing on her that could harm Arabella. I don’t mean to say I didn’t trust everyone but the culprit may have secretly attached cursed items to further worsen my wife’s condition. I didn’t want anything else to happen to her when she had not even woken up yet after she was healed."

Ferdinand explained that they suspected a curse could have been involved which was why Arabella did not wake up even after she was healed. Thus, they were wary and careful about everything.

Further, if a curse was involved, those who stayed close to her could have been implicated as well. Thus, Aletha who took care of her had to be protected within multilayer barriers and spells. And Alwin was already focusing on healing Arabella so they couldn’t afford more.

Thankfully, after Ferdinand’s unexpected long explanation, Arabella’s family finally understood why no one was allowed to see her. They thanked Alwin for healing her and Ferdinand for prioritizing her safety first.

With that matter settled; Arabella’s father then asked about the veracity of what Raymond told everyone in the Council during the meeting.

"Just like the investigation King Neville organized, ours also led us to Princess Lucille and her maid as the primary suspects. We are rather confused that it was suddenly someone else when the proofs pointed to the Princess at first. Are you changing the story to prevent distrust and chaos due to the impending war?" King Edgar inquired.

[I was worried about this too. I heard about the issue between Prudencia and Crux and that Arabella was indeed involved in it, but how did Umbra get involved in all this? Would they truly take the risk of confronting Valeria?] Icarus also wanted to know more about it since he also had his own investigation team dig for the truth of the poisoning attempt but did not get any clues that pointed to Adolfo and Jacob.

Icarus thought that perhaps, they were simply using this opportunity to crush Umbra because of the issue with Prudencia.

Ferdinand explained how they got to the real culprits. After all, they could not reveal everything to the Council members since they had to keep secrets.

Arabella’s family and Icarus had a clue about Alwin’s abilities so they could be a bit more honest and detailed with them so they would not be confused.

Icarus also held a lot of power in Eliora so letting him know about the truth was better than leaving him in the dark thinking that Ferdinand was using this opportunity to do as he pleased instead of punishing those who harmed his very own wife.

Alwin and Arabella also helped with the explanation and clarified that she had already spoken with Lucille and Risa and that they were only being framed so Adolfo and Jacob would not be suspected.
