Ever since that day, Lucille strived to be better than Arabella in every way.

And she excelled more when it comes to studying.

Arabella was pretty but she wasn’t that good at studying. Though she was good too, Lucille was way better since she was older and had studied much more than Arabella.

But when it comes to promotion and sales, Arabella always had more than she does.

This went on for years until Lucille understood why.

The world itself was biased and unfair.

Everyone preferred people and things that were most beautiful and pleasing to the eye.

How can Lucille even compete with it?

It was human nature.

Arabella’s beauty gave her more sales.

People bought whatever she recommended because she was the prettiest.

Ladies thought eating what she eats, drinking what she drinks, and copying her lifestyle would make them get a bit closer to how pretty she was.

Meanwhile, men who do not even need what she recommended bought what Arabella promoted because they were interested in her.

Thus, Arabella’s promotions were effortless. All the time, during tea parties, what she promoted got sold out on the same day or just a matter of several days.

The men who liked her usually tried to impress her and bought everything that was not bought by the ladies.

Lucille thought Arabella was not doing it on purpose. She thought Arabella was innocent and clueless about what was happening.

But one day, she noticed that Arabella was using her beauty to get what she wanted. She learned that her appearance had such powerful effects on the people around her and she began maximizing it.

Arabella was manipulating all those people because she could.

Lucille grew to hate her since that day.

Her mother was right. She would be a laughingstock if she kept losing to Arabella.

Thus, Lucille did her best in all kinds of ways to ensure she becomes better than Arabella in everything.

And yet, Lucille was experiencing the same as her mother did before. She lost to Arabella most of the time.

Arabella was even able to get Andrew, Lucille’s first love.

How else would Arabella have done so when Andrew had always been looking at Lucille?

Lucille thought Andrew would finally confess to her one day, but all of a sudden, Arabella introduced him and said they were dating.

Arabella seduced her man. And she succeeded because she was the prettiest. How could Andrew not like her when she shined so brightly?

But was beauty all that mattered?

Or did Arabella do her best to seduce Andrew?

Ah, right. That must be it.

Arabella looked so innocent and naive but she wasn’t in the least bit.

Arabella was a temptress. Yes, that was what she was.

Finally, Lucille understood what her mother was worried about.

Despite hurting from her heartbreak, she still tried to hold on. She decided to bid her time.

But she didn’t do it silently.

Lucille did her best to try to break up the two by spreading negative rumors about Arabella and doing all sorts of things trying to make the two fight. But none of it was fruitful.

And one day, Lucille learned that Carmella was seducing Arabella’s suitors. She enjoyed watching how fickle they were. Carmella got them because she had a better body.

They had all sorts of declarations to Arabella and yet they easily strayed to Carmella’s side with a just bit of suggestive behavior.

Lucille realized that the world was fickle and vain. People are much easier to tempt than she thought.

What had she been doing all her life trying to act all nice, putting in utmost effort, when in the end, everyone just does as they please and follow their sense of pleasure and fun?

Can’t she do it too?

Lucille realized that what would be fun to her was making Arabella feel the suffering she experienced even if just a bit.

Thus, Lucille decided to work with Carmella. She helped out so that Carmella would have more chances to be alone with Arabella’s suitors. Carmella almost always succeeded.

Lucille emphasized that Andrew was an exception. That Carmella should not seduce him. But the latter was a bitch and still tried seducing Andrew.

Carmella failed the first time. It hurt her pride so she tried again and again but always failed.

Carmella got irritated and secretly, she even used an aphrodisiac. This angered Andrew. He slapped Carmela and said he was devoted to Arabella. And that if Carmella tried doing such a thing again, he would reveal her true colors to everyone.

Lucille only learned about this when Carmella came to her to complain. Andrew was the first person to ever slap her.

Enraged, Lucille wanted to give a second slap. She even almost pulled at Carmella’s hair but she managed to maintain her calm since Andrew rejected Carmella so strongly.

Lucille was glad Andrew did not fall for Carmella’s wiles. But just what did Arabella do to make him fall for her and be that devoted?

She was not able to know because one day, Arabella was suddenly engaged with the Dark Emperor.

It was rather shocking news. But Lucille couldn’t help but be delighted after reading it.

She felt bad that Arabella would go to such a terrible man. She even worried that Arabella might get hurt or beaten up or worst yet, killed.

However, she cannot let this chance slip. This was the only opportunity she had to approach Andrew after so long.

Arabella was complaining and asking for help since her parents arranged her marriage despite knowing she was dating Andrew.

Lucille pretended to make her feel better. She implied in her letter that eloping would be her only choice.

She thought Arabella would not do it due to its repercussions. But Arabella and Andrew idiotically did. Or did they simply love each other that much?

All of Eliora became tense because of it since war was likely to break out between Lahar and Valeria. And Lahar would obviously lose.
