Chapter 280: Let’s Live Here Together
Chapter 280: Let’s Live Here Together
[I never want to see her like that again. Her hands, her face, her whole body. Everything was cold. She was not breathing. Her heart was not beating. It was as if she had already died. I felt such an immense sense of loss I have never experienced before. My chest ached so much but I didn’t know what to do. This is the first time I’ve felt such fear and fury inside me. I don’t want to lose her no matter what. I don’t want to feel that despair, that helplessness again. I thought I was going to go crazy. If she didn’t wake up, I might have lost myself and gone berserk. I’ll do everything in my power so she won’t be in such a situation again.]
It had been a few minutes since Alwin left and Ferdinand had just been holding her in his arms. He hasn’t said a single word and just hugged her, feeling her warmth and listening to her heartbeat.
His embrace was a bit too tight it hurt but Arabella did her best to bare with it.
Arabella understood he must be traumatized after everything that happened so she just held him too and stroked his hair and back.
She understood the feeling, the despair. The feeling of seeing someone so precious to you turn from a warm living being to a cold corpse. She had never forgotten it even now.
The day Fermin’s human body died in her arms, was the day she counted herself dead as well. She thought she had lost her son forever. It was such a devastating feeling.
And not just Fermin, both Ferdinand and Icarus died right in front of her. She had not forgotten those yet as well. It was never pleasant.
"Arabella," Ferdinand finally spoke. "Don’t leave me alone. If you are going to leave, take me with you."
’Is he telling me we should die together if I would die anyway? I already told him last time this is no good. If we have children, someone has to live to raise our children.’
But she cannot tell him off since Ferdinand was sensitive right now.
"I won’t be going anywhere. I’m safe and sound now. Don’t worry too much," Arabella assured him again.
"Maybe we should just start living here. No one would dare poison my wife here in Estrella," Ferdinand said and Arabella flinched.
’I’m really happy he is inviting me to live in his real abode. But it’s a bit too early.’
"What about Valeria? Do we just leave it to someone else? Or would Raymond become the Emperor if we stay here?"
"Yes. I think Raymond would become the Emperor until another oracle comes. We can say you died of the poison and I ended my life. That way we can live here together. Just the two of us. We won’t have to bother with a lot of paperwork as well. I’m not an Emperor here but I have this palace and this whole island to myself. My territory goes over the seas as well. We have everything we would ever need here," Ferdinand was seriously considering it.
Arabella was rather tempted.
If they stayed here, she won’t have to work hard to please people. She could just be Ferdinand’s wife and focus on him. She wouldn’t have to do the tiresome work of an Empress nor do her best to gather allies.
Those who were trying to harm her would not be able to reach her here as well. She would be safe and sound and so does Fermin once she gives birth to him.
But is the time now? Somehow, just retiring here now didn’t sit well with her even when the temptation was so strong.
Wouldn’t it be as if she was running away from everything?
She had promised to atone for her past deeds and her crimes in her past life did not limit her victims to Ferdinand or Icarus.
The people of Valeria were greatly impacted as well. Thousands of people died because of her actions. They do not know about it, but she does.
If she just stay here without doing anything for Valeria first, she knew deep inside her that the guilt and regret would keep on eating her.
She has to resolve her past regrets first before she could say yes to just living here in Estrella without a care about what happens to Valeria and Eliora.
And her family. She had just reunited with them and confirmed that they do love her. Benjamin might try to pursue revenge on her behalf. She doesn’t want him to be like her who pursued revenge not knowing that her son was still alive.
Arabella didn’t want to create another her, who had blindly pursued revenge because she didn’t know about the truth.
"I’d love to accept your offer. But I don’t think the time is right. We still have a lot to do in Valeria. In the future, perhaps, we can come and live here just as you want and live our days just with each other," Arabella made her decision.
"Right," Ferdinand pouted. He already knew she would reject his offer. "You haven’t even seen what this place is like. Of course, you would reject it. I’ll show the whole island to you someday so you can think about it in a better light."
[And I do have to ensure to kill those who tried to harm her first. I won’t let them go scot-free.] Ferdinand’s eyes darkened.
"Yes, I’d love to have a good look at this place. It’s your true abode after all. I want to get to know you better," Arabella replied and her husband finally smiled.
He captured her lips and Arabella almost kissed him back but she recalled she have been unconscious for three days. She hasn’t been able to bathe and cleanse herself.
’So embarrassing! Do I stink? My hair must be a mess too,’ she pushed back her husband and got out of his lap.
"A-Arabella?!" Ferdinand was wide-eyed.
[Did she hate the idea of living here with me this much?!]
