Chapter 248: He is Safe and Sound
Once the night came, Alwin teleported Duke Olivier to one of the receiving rooms in the building.
Dimo was still asleep in one of the guest rooms since he hadn’t been sleeping properly due to nightmares the past few days. He would only be called once the adult talk was done.
Duke Olivier was pale when he was teleported into the receiving room and was puzzled to see Arabella.
"Princess, I mean, Your Majesty," Duke Olivier did his best to remain composed and greeted her properly first before asking what he had been worried about.
"Your Majesty, what is the meaning of this? This knight suddenly appeared with my son’s things and told me to follow him when I was available or else my son would be in danger," Duke Olivier inquired, his hands slightly shaking.
Arabella and Alwin were the only ones to speak with the Duke so as not to intimidate him.
Ferdinand would not be there with them since his presence would be too imposing for the duke.
But just being approached by Alwin and getting teleported already made the duke this alarmed.
Well, that was probably Alwin’s fault.
To make Duke Olivier come with him, Alwin apparently showed Dimo’s bloodied shoes and the medallion with the duchy’s crest that Dimo was supposed to be wearing.
Of course, any father who loved his child would be so alarmed. Duke Olivier thought Dimo was abducted. Yet, Alwin didn’t dare correct it.
’He could have explained a bit so the Duke won’t misunderstand,’ Arabella internally sighed. If this was how Alwin and the others do things, it was no wonder she had misunderstood them in her past life.
’I guess I have to give more detailed instructions next time. I told him to arrange a meeting with Duke Olivier secretly and this was how he did. He threatened the Duke.’
"Please sit down first, Duke Olivier," Arabella ushered to the seat opposite her.
The Duke glanced at the seat then to Rendell who was standing behind Arabella, then to Alwin who was still disguised as one of Ferdinand’s knights.
Arabella smiled to reassure the Duke but it seemed to have made him even more nervous. He thought he was being warned to behave so he silently seated himself.
"Please don’t worry about them. They are my guards," Arabella said and the Duke nodded.
"Your Majesty, my son, did he perhaps go out and got near the forbidden area while you were on traversing?" Duke Olivier inquired careful enough not to put blame on them or accuse them of abducting Dimo.
The only thing he could think about why Dimo would be in their hands was if Dimo did not heed his instructions and went out of the house while he was away.
"Yes."
Before she could even explain the Duke kneeled and asked for forgiveness for the sake of his son.
"Your Majesty, please be merciful. He is only a child. As his father, it was my fault for not educating him enough. Please find it in your heart to forgive the poor boy who did not get educated properly," the Duke was willing to take the blame.
[Her Majesty is kind and gentle when she was a princess. We had been loyal customers of Lobelius for years. I hope she could show mercy to my son.]
Duke Olivier knew asking mercy from Ferdinand would be difficult so he knew he should ask Arabella instead while she was the one speaking with him.
"I understand, please return to your seat."
Arabella then informed the Duke of how they encountered Dimo and he turned even paler at the realization that his son was already badly injured when they met him. It meant his child was hurt in their own Dukedom despite Dimo being already declared as his heir.
"Once he was conscious, Demetrius was in a panic thinking we were the ones after him. However once he had calmed down, he revealed something important. It may be hard to believe for you right now but please listen," Arabella then retold Dimo’s story to Duke Olivier.
[If what Her Majesty said is true, Brent and Monica are not even my children?! And they dared to attempt killing my son to silence him?!] The Duke’s hands balled into fists.
He was shocked at the revelation so Arabella remained silent for a while to give the Duke some time to process it and calm down.
"Your Majesty, this means my son is here, right? May I please meet him? He must be scared and hurting. I need to have his injuries cured as soon as possible as well," Duke Olivier was worried about Dimo’s condition.
"So, you believe what I told you?" Arabella verified.
"Yes, I believe Your Majesty has no reason to waste your time cooking up a lie," Duke Olivier believed it easily.
[There’s no reason for Valeria to stoop to something like this if they wanted Olivier. They could simply attack us whenever they want. And Her Majesty is innocent and good-natured. Her aura had changed so much and she looks more mature but it had only been a few months since she got married. I don’t think she was one to lie about something this important.]
’I see. I thought we would need some proof to convince him. Alwin had already gathered proofs too. Still, it would be useful if the Duke wanted to divorce his wife and reveal the truth.’
"Thank you for trusting me. Your son is safe and sound and is sleeping soundly in one of the guest rooms. You will meet him once dinner is ready. He was already healed by the man who teleported you here," Arabella glanced at Alwin and the Duke gasped.
"M-my deepest gratitude. Thank you very much for healing my son," the Duke put a hand on his chest and bowed in gratitude. He felt bad to have been suspicious and wary of Alwin earlier.
"Thank Her Majesty for her compassionate heart. We would have considered the child a trap set up by assassins if Her Majesty did not recognize him," Alwin didn’t take credit and passed it to Arabella.
’He’s acting all nice. Is it because he is in disguise as a knight?’
But then again, Alwin had always acted nice. Rather he was nice, but he was just full of complaints about her in his mind because he had memories of the past.
