Chapter 207: Firstborn of Duke Olivier
[She had met this child before?]
Ferdinand frowned as he eyed Dimo from head to foot.
[He is wearing Loranne clothing. His clothes are burnt and dirty but it’s still noticeable that it’s made from the highest quality fabric. He’s clearly a rich noble’s son. Must be from Olivier. But why would he wander here all alone in this state? It was clear in the agreement that no one was allowed to be on this same road or near it while we are passing by or else we could consider them assassins or mercenaries trying to target us and eliminate them. A runaway? But he’s too young.]
Arabella gulped. Even Ferdinand might be suspicious if she doesn’t say a believable reason why she knew Dimo.
Her heart pounded loudly as she thought of what else to say so Alwin won’t suspect her either. He was so close to the truth, it was too dangerous.
If he learns she had memories of the past too, he might even be more hostile to her. For now, he was just being hostile to her in his thoughts. But once he learns of the truth, he might just be truly mean to her once Ferdinand and Raymond were not around.
And what if he informed Ferdinand about it?!
’No! I can’t allow that to happen!’
That’s her darkest secret she cannot ever tell Ferdinand. For now, at least.
’Oh, right! There was that one time!’
Arabella was just about to speak but then...
"Please don’t kill me! I didn’t do it on purpose. I won’t tell anyone!" Dimo curled into a ball bracing himself and screamed in fear upon opening his eyes and becoming aware he was surrounded by people.
Fire shot out in all directions surrounding Dimo.
Alwin instantly put up a barrier to protect everyone.
Ferdinand gathered Arabella in his arms ready to carry her when necessary and Rendell and the Grand Commander stood in front of them ready to be their shield.
The knights drew their swords and surrounded Arabella and Ferdinand, wary of an attack in case Dimo could have been used as a distraction.
Alwin contained Dimo in a prison-like barrier so he would not be able to run away or cause harm.
[Already a magician at such a young age?] The knights wondered.
[No wonder I felt something from him earlier. He has more mana than normal humans. He seems to be attacking blindly though.] Ferdinand thought.
"Please, don’t kill me! I’ll leave the dukedom. I won’t ever come back here," Dimo screamed again and more fire was emitted from him.
"He’s getting hurt from his own flames," Ferdinand noted and Alwin doused out the fire with magic.
Dimo gasped in surprise when the fire vanished into thin air.
"Stop attacking recklessly. You are wasting your mana and your energy," Alwin sighed.
"Eh?!" Dimo blinked repeatedly when he looked around.
[Who are they?! They aren’t the people Aunt Sonia sent to kill me?]
’What?!’ Arabella was wide-eyed from Dimo’s thoughts.
She gulped when she recalled what Dimo told her in the past. Dimo run away from home when he was young because his stepmother, whom he calls Aunt Sonia, repeatedly tried to have him killed when his father was not around.
Dimo looked around for the faces of those who were chasing him but found none of them.
[Who are these people? They seem to be knights but their armor is different from ours... All of them have their swords drawn!]
Dimo flinched when he realized the knights looked grim and he was surrounded by some of them.
[Are they going to kill me too?! Did Aunt Sonia even hire knights from another dukedom?!]
Dimo shivered in fear.
[No, I can’t die yet. Not until I find my father and tell him about Aunt Sonia’s affair! Brent and Monica are not even my real siblings. They are both another man’s children. Aunt Sonia never loved my father!] His eyes were filled with determination as he thought of a way to survive.
This was the painful truth that led to Dimo experiencing horrible things until he became a magician for hire for the underground guild.
"Please don’t kill me. Please tell Aunt Sonia I won’t ever show my face in the dukedom again. Brent can be the heir. I will leave this place and live somewhere far away. I won’t tell anyone about her secret either," Dimo said non-stop.
[I will find father no matter what. I will definitely tell him about Aunt Sonia’s secret! I was not able to bring any money with me but my father used to say I can use the necklace he had given me before to seek help and people will definitely help me. I don’t know what he means but I have to try once I leave here alive.]
The knights blinked and glanced at each other after what Dimo said. In the end, they glanced at Ferdinand who would be making the decisions.
[I see. A fight for the next head of the dukedom. Did Duke Olivier die? But their flags are still raised high. This child must have lost to other competitors to have no one on his side at all. Were all of them killed by his siblings?] Ferdinand wondered.
When no one said a word, Dimo kneeled on all fours and begged for his life. A medallion slipped out of his neckline and it was the crest of the Olivier Dukedom.
Upon seeing it, Ferdinand and Alwin both concluded their theories were right. The knights hesitated to point their swords too.
"Please sheet, your swords. He is just a scared and hurt child. I know him. He is the firstborn son of Duke Olivier. I’ve seen them in Medeus before," Arabella said and the knights glanced at her and then her husband.
Ferdinand nodded.
[She knows the Duke of Olivier?] Ferdinand thought.
[Oh, so she just met them in Medeus before. I was overthinking. Not because I have memories of the past meant she does too. I’ve used a spell on myself to ensure no one ever tried to fiddle with my memories so it was probably why I have mine intact.] Alwin concluded and Arabella internally sighed in relief at narrowly escaping a dangerous situation.
