Chapter 205: Use My Lap as a Pillow

Arabella was sure they had just entered the carriage a few minutes ago and their journey had just begun. And yet, she could already see the signs of her husband getting bored.

Ferdinand was sitting across her and he had been following her eyes.

[What is she looking at? All we had been passing by so far were trees and farms. What’s so interesting about it?]

Well, that was because she’s never been to Olivier before. And, Ferdinand had been staring at her since they were in the carriage. His eyes followed where her eyes went or he just gazed at her.

Ferdinand wondered if the scenery was different from her view so he transferred beside her but concluded that the scenery was all the same and boring.

His eyes went to her once again.

[We haven’t been with each other for a month but she doesn’t seem to miss me that much. I want to keep gazing at her face since I haven’t seen her for so long. But she doesn’t even look at me for more than a few seconds. I must be wishing for too much hoping she missed me as much as I missed her. Though, I’m still glad she said she missed me too.]

Arabella flinched.

’How did it come to that conclusion? I can’t look for long since he keeps staring at me so intensely.’

They were alone in the carriage and it was dangerous to keep meeting Ferdinand’s gazes. She knew from past experience how easily he could be triggered.

It was getting a bit uncomfortable with all the stares he was giving her too. If he kept staring at her like this, she might melt before they reach Medeus.

"Have you been here before?" Arabella tried striking up a conversation to distract him and possibly ease his boredom.

"Several times," was his curt reply.

’Does he not want to talk?’

"Oh, what did you do?" Arabella tried again.

"Hunting."

’Maybe not. He’s still not in a good mood. Carriage rides make him this grumpy?’

She wondered how Alwin and Raymond entertained him the last time so he would last a few minutes. At this rate, Ferdinand might just stop the carriage in the next few minutes and go hunting.

Arabella turned to get a good look at her husband. She met his eyes. He was still staring at her.

’Now that I look closely, there are dark circles under his eyes.’

"Are you tired?" Arabella cupped his face and gently caressed his cheek.

[One gentle caress from her and I feel so much better. I wonder how this works. It’s still a mystery that I can feel these things I’ve never felt before.]

"Not anymore," Ferdinand closed his eyes, relishing her touch.

[Her hand feels good. Her touch is warm, tender, and gentle. I used to wonder why lovers were so touchy. But now, I think I understand. I crave to hold her close and long for her touch all the time. And in times like this when she does touch me, my chest gets filled with this overflowing warmth and weird feeling.]

Ferdinand seemed to enjoy her touch but Arabella got overwhelmed and embarrassed by his thoughts and retracted her hand.

Her husband’s eyes instantly fluttered open and he caught her hand. He held it in both of his.

Arabella let it be since he seemed to want to hold hands.

[It’s truly a wonder. Even holding her hand like this and the fact she’s allowing me to do so makes me feel even warmer inside.] Ferdinand kissed the back of her hand repeatedly.

"Uhm, Dear," Arabella tried to get his attention when he kept kissing her hand.

Ferdinand stopped and searched her eyes with his lips still at the back of her hand.

"Can’t I?"

Arabella flinched. He was getting good at using this question.

"Do you hate it?" he asked next.

"No, of course not," he was getting better and better with this too. He doesn’t even do it purpose. What more once he learns to maximize this?

He resumed kissing her hand when she said she doesn’t hate it.

"Ferdinand, there are dark circles under your eyes. You seem to have not slept enough," she distracted him since kissing her hand this way might lead elsewhere.

[Oh, right. I forgot to ask Alwin to fix those. They must not be pleasing to look at.]

’That’s not what I meant.’

"I haven’t slept for several days. Please bear with it until our stop. If it’s too disturbing, I’ll ask Alwin to come now and fix it."

"That’s not it. Several days are too long. It must have been rough. You should get some sleep while we are not busy. Once we are in Medeus, we would be busy dealing with other royalty."

Healing the dark circles could come later. Taking a rest was more important.

[I haven’t slept for more than a week so this body is showing signs of exhaustion. A human body tires so easily. If I didn’t keep training when this body was small, I would get exhausted even sooner.]

’More than a week?! Isn’t that too much? I know he had a strong body but isn’t he abusing it?’

"I’ll be fine," Ferdinand smiled when he noticed she was worried.

[I was indeed feeling exhausted after not seeing her for a while but I felt better after I got to embrace her for several hours this morning.]

Earlier in her room, Arabella thought Ferdinand was asleep but realized he was just pretending when she heard his thoughts. He also opened his eyes when she tried to get out of his embrace and told her he wanted to just stay like that a bit more because he missed her.

Arabella embraced him back and they were just about to kiss when the maids knocked to wake her up because she had to prepare early for their departure.

"Even if you will be just fine, you have to rest. Here, use my lap as a pillow and sleep," Arabella offered.

"..." Ferdinand was wide-eyed.

"You don’t want to?" Arabella realized it might be too much for Ferdinand. She was wrong though.

"I do!" Ferdinand quickly said fearing she would take back the offer.

[Her lap?! I’ve seen lovers do it before. They looked like they were enjoying it. Was it that good?] Ferdinand was curious.
