Chapter 197: Not Back Yet

Once Alwin was done with the spells on Arabella, he sent Riley to report to Ferdinand.

In alarm and worry, Ferdinand returned to the palace just to ensure Arabella was indeed fine. He had to leave in just a few minutes though since he was scheduled to meet with the King of Crux.

Crux had finally responded to Ferdinand’s letter and had begun sending back some of the people of Prudencia they had bought as slaves.

They requested a meeting with Ferdinand since his knights had surrounded Crux in all directions.

Ferdinand agreed to the meeting because his magicians discovered that some nobles were trying to sell off their slaves in other countries and pretend like they never had a slave from Valeria in the first place.

It annoyed Ferdinand so he rallied more knights to surround Crux and stay close to the borders.

Due to this, Crux was in a panic that they might get attacked any day so they finally wanted to have a discussion.

Meanwhile, since there was nothing wrong with her and spells were cast on her, Arabella went to work in her office with both Rendell and Alwin as her guards.

Her assistants realized that something must have happened for her to be guarded by Ferdinand’s mage himself in addition to Rendell and her other guards.

This time though, Alwin kept his hood on and hid his face.

Arabella’s assistants only knew he was Ferdinand’s rumored mage due to the cloak he was wearing.

It was akin to Alwin’s uniform.

He always wore a cloak of the same design that only varied in three colors. He had been spotted alongside Ferdinand a lot of times so people had been able to make a painting of him in it with his face remaining a mystery.

Arabella learned from Raymond’s thoughts that Alwin’s cloak was a protective barrier.

Alwin’s weakness was apparently his body since he had long stopped spending time strengthening his body for more time for magic experiments.

Alwin relied on magic to strengthen his body’s defenses. But in case he wasn’t able to use magic, he may be easily killed.

Thus, Alwin always wore a cloak with various kinds of protective spells to protect his body from attacks since he was no longer sure of his reflexes.

His body had protective spells too. But, he was being careful so he could remain in Valeria and serve as Ferdinand’s magician while he had the opportunity. Since once they were back in Estrella, Ferdinand could use magic too and does not really rely on Alwin or anyone else.

It was no wonder that Ferdinand said magic was convenient since he could do everything by himself in Estrella. But here in Valeria, he had to rely on Alwin and his other magicians.

Alwin and Rendell were on alert the whole day but there was no sign of the God of Mischief appearing again.

Thus, the following day, only Rendell and Arabella’s usual guards were with her.

Alwin got busy fortifying the palace with all sorts of defensive spells so he remained in the Magic Tower. She didn’t see him again the following days since he was also occupied with work to do.

Blanca was busy with education and training too so she no longer visited Arabella.

The days passed by peacefully while Arabella was busy with work. She met with Raymond quite often due to work matters and attended some more social events with him.

. . .

Days and weeks passed by and finally, the time to head to Medeus was tomorrow.

All the preparations were done. And yet, Ferdinand was not back yet.

Arabella wondered if she would have to attend the Assembly with Raymond as well.

"Your Majesty, everything’s prepared well. Are you ready to depart tomorrow?" Raymond inquired.

They had just finished checking everything was ready for tomorrow and decided to have tea together in the garden.

"Yes, of course. But when will Ferdinand be back? He would go with me, right?" Arabella asked and Raymond smiled.

He thought Arabella was feeling lonely after not seeing Ferdinand for so long and was missing him.

’I’m not. Or maybe, just a little,’ Arabella looked away from the teasing look in Raymond’s eyes.

[Her Majesty is blushing. She must indeed miss His Majesty. Alwin said His Majesty was itching to see Her Majesty every single day but stopped himself from returning to the palace so he could complete his responsibilities in Prudencia more quickly so he wouldn’t have to go back there again after the Assembly in Medeus.]

"Please be rest assured, His Majesty said he will be here before you depart tomorrow."

"I see," Arabella had been writing to Ferdinand at least once a week but there was not a single response from him.

She understood he wasn’t the type to write letters and he must be busy, but just one reply to all her letters would have been fine. A curt letter saying he was doing well would have sufficed. But she got none instead.

Arabella was supposed to send him another letter three days ago to ask when he would return since they would be heading to Medeus soon.

But due to Ferdinand not sending back a reply to all her letters, Arabella’s maids were beginning to wonder if she had a fight with her husband.

She decided not to send the letter anymore since it would spark more rumors if another letter did not receive a reply.

She heard from Raymond that everything was finally progressing well in getting back the people of Prudencia.

And yet, Ferdinand was not yet back. If he would only return tomorrow, it was probably when they were about to depart.

"He must have a lot of work to do. Is the Crux Kingdom still giving us difficulties?" Arabella inquired. She got too busy too and didn’t have the chance to hear about the reports.

"Some nobles are still troublesome but most of them are cooperating now," Raymond replied.
