Chapter 196: A Mighty Foe

Chapter 196: A Mighty Foe

’I just recalled some past memories. Did I make it too obvious on my face?’ Arabella looked around.

Her maids looked pale. And everyone was suddenly surrounded by magicians and her knights. Rendell was there too.

’Why are they here?’

"What’s going on?" Arabella asked in confusion.

Alwin explained that she suddenly tensed and her expression looked grim.

Alwin was alarmed and thought she was horrified at something behind him so he instantly alerted Riley to bring Rendell and Arabella’s guards.

Meanwhile, Arabella stared into space and didn’t react to their voice at all like she could not see them. Her eyes did not blink as well even as Alwin tried to speak with her and wake her out of her stupor.

"I’m fine now. I just spaced out for a bit," Arabella said to stop everyone from panicking. They did not relax one bit though.

She reminded herself not to stay in her thoughts for too long and forget where she was or else she would alarm her guards like this.

But earlier was an accident. She doesn’t even know why she was suddenly able to recall a memory she wasn’t able to recall even after she turned forty in her past life.

It must have been triggered after seeing the man in Alwin’s thoughts.

[She turned even paler. Is she feeling unwell? I knew I can’t let my guard down. Did the troublemaker visit her last night? I didn’t feel his presence again when she suddenly spaced out but it might be his doing.]

"Pardon me, Your Majesty. It seems it’s not safe for you to work at the moment. Please come with me to the Magic Tower in the meantime," Alwin said and Arabella nodded since he was on alert. Her maids were escorted to their rooms.

Alwin teleported her to the Magic Tower and his eyes glowed as he used magic to examine her.

[Hmm. Nothing seems wrong with her. Why did she space out like that?] He frowned as kept examining her several times.

"I’m fine now," Arabella said again.

"I will be the judge of that," Alwin was back to his grumpy self.

Arabella understood though that he was on high alert right now and was trying to make sure she was safe and sound.

[Wait! Don’t tell me he tried to speak with her earlier?! He could have done it from afar so I was not able to sense him.]

Alwin then began questioning Arabella.

"Your Majesty, did anything happen while you were staring into space? Did you see something? Did you hear a voice in your head? Or were you suddenly in another place?"

"No. I just suddenly recalled a distant memory from my childhood. But what’s going on? You didn’t have to bring me here. I am fine. Is there something else going on?" Arabella asked for a chance Alwin might tell her.

"Someone dangerous may have approached Your Majesty so we have to be careful," Alwin was not going to divulge who it was.

"Why would that person approach me? I saw no one at all nor did I hear anything from someone earlier."

"You are His Majesty’s wife and Empress. He has more enemies and haters than we can count. Your Majesty may have been targeted to get leverage over His Majesty," Alwin explained.

Arabella already knew that. But what she wanted to know was who was that person specifically since he even targeted her when she was little.

"Was there nothing weird with the memory you recollected?" Alwin pursued.

"Hmm. I think it was weird that I suddenly recalled it earlier. It was a memory I wasn’t able to recall for more than a decade. And only now did I recall it so vividly."

After Arabella said that, Alwin kept asking until she had no choice but tell him about how she got her trauma.

"Could you please describe them, your tempter and savior?" Alwin pushed through.

Arabella described the two and said that Ferdinand somehow resembled her savior. Alwin might know about him so she wanted to know through his thoughts.

[Both of them visited her when she was a child?! The God of Mischief must have meddled too far. How could he try to kill her himself?! Is he going back on his word because my lord passed the tortuous and sorrowful trial he made him go through? No wonder the God of Dragons interfered and saved her.]

’The God of Dragons and the God of Mischief?!’ Arabella blinked repeatedly.

Why would such important beings bother trying to kill and save her?

[If the God of Dragons hadn’t come to save her, all of my lord’s suffering would have been in vain if she died just like that.]

’I see. Because of Ferdinand. What did they make him go through that even the God of Dragons would save me?’

"Your Majesty, it seems we have a bigger foe than we thought. Please allow me to cast spells directly on your body so they would not be able to harm you even in case we are not around."

[Even I would not be able to do much against that troublemaker. The God of Dragons will help His Majesty but he won’t be able to meddle directly with humans.]

Arabella glanced at Rendell and Riley who were the only ones with them. They both nodded, indicating Ferdinand would also agree to this.

"We are in a hurry since he might come back any time. Fret not, I will only add spells His Majesty would agree with once he learns about this," Alwin promised.

"Alright then. If it’s for my safety," Arabella had no choice but to agree and Alwin cast a lot of spells for all sorts of things. There were too many to count since Alwin was being careful.

Arabella understood though after learning that it was someone so powerful that even Alwin and Ferdinand could never fight head on.

From Alwin’s thoughts, she learned that among the spells were protection from rewriting memories and mind control. He also used a spell that would protect her soul and body so Renee trying to steal her body again would never succeed.
