Chapter 141: I Have No Plans to Get Married
In the past life, as far as Arabella knew, all Alwin did was support Ferdinand.
During the time that Arabella thought he was dead, Alwin was back in Estrella still working for Ferdinand.
Alwin never got married.
If he did, he wouldn’t have been willing to throw his life away to revive Arabella just so Ferdinand could have a chance at finding happiness.
[I don’t want to get married! How should I escape this?! But wouldn’t my lord be disappointed in me if I don’t take responsibility? No. There was nothing to be disappointed about. I didn’t propose or assault Blanca. I just healed her. My lord wouldn’t be disappointed in me because of something like this.]
It was almost funny how Alwin looked so horrified about the thought of marriage.
It was the first time Arabella had witnessed Alwin so panicked about something since he seemed to have a solution for everything most of the time. But right now, he doesn’t have a solution in mind for this because he had lost his composure.
For Alwin who always had internal complaints and rude remarks about her and her actions, Arabella could have taken pleasure in seeing Alwin uncollected and troubled.
But she couldn’t.
After all, Arabella understood the feeling of suddenly being told to marry someone when she had no plans of marriage yet.
She knew it was hard because she had experienced it before. Especially when the person she was getting married to was not someone of her choice. After all, even political marriages have a bit of leeway to choose someone you and your family could work with. On her part, she didn’t have a say at all.
Arabella wasn’t really the kind to enjoy watching other people suffer so she didn’t want Alwin to experience what she did.
"I have no plans to get married. I would serve my lord for the rest of my life. I probably won’t ever marry," Alwin directly said fearing that things would escalate if he allowed it.
’Alwin, isn’t that a bit too mean to say to a young lady though?’ Arabella wanted to say.
It was as if he was telling Blanca he would rather not marry at all if it was her he was going to marry.
It could crush Blanca’s confidence in herself. Alwin could have phrased it in another way. Especially since to them, Blanca was still young despite her age and she had been in hibernation ever since she was a child.
{I don’t care. You are my fiancé now as per the policies.} Blanca insisted.
’Did she take a liking to Alwin at first sight just like Renee?’ Arabella wondered since this was the first time Alwin and Blanca met.
It could be a bit of a crush or infatuation on Blanca’s part.
’While she was not yet attracted to Alwin on a deeper level, wouldn’t it be better to stop this now?’
It would only end up in one-sided love anyway since Alwin doesn’t seem to be into having a romantic relationship.
Moreover, Blanca was still young. She should decide about marriage when her thoughts were a bit more mature.
But was not getting married after the wings were touched allowed in the policies?
"As per the policies?" Alwin tilted his head and his face brightened when he recalled something.
"What are you talking about? As per the policies, you can just say you do not accept my proposal and everything would be solved. No need to make things complicated."
{That’s if you only held for what counts as a proposal. You touched me too long. Every male pegasus would think I’m already someone else’s. Your touch has already left a mark on my wings.}
Arabella learned from the conversation between the two that pegasuses have a way of knowing when a female was already taken.
They would know if a female pegasus’ wings were touched by a male even without seeing it themselves and even after some time had passed. It also applied even to the highborn.
Thus, after Alwin touched Blanca’s wings for a while, males of her kind would think she was taken and would no longer propose because the mark on her wings indicates she had accepted a proposal.
But since Alwin touched her longer than what was meant as a proposal, the mark was different and indicates that Blanca was already married and had consummated with her partner. It was invisible to other races but visible to the males of their kind.
It meant Blanca would not be courted anymore and have no chance to get married. Unless she wanted to marry someone from another race like Alwin for instance.
But since male pegasuses would know her wings were already touched, there would likely be a rumor about her once she goes to Estrella which may dissuade even other races from courting her thinking that she was already taken and married. Other negative rumors may also arise.
"Don’t be so selfish. I just healed you. How can you insist on marriage? I was just helping you recover. And stop sucking in my mana already, you little thief!"
Alwin was getting more and more irritated that he was not minding his manners anymore. His rude words were leaking out of his mouth. He usually spoke nicely and just let his rude words remain in his mind.
{You are the one who’s selfish. I didn’t ask you to help me at all. You cured my wings of your own volition. Waaah!!! Poor me. I just lived my life for a few years and slept for the most. Now I don’t even have a future. I’d rather die in this cave. Waahhh!!} Blanca was throwing a tantrum.
Alwin flinched at Blanca’s words though since they held some truth.
"Don’t cry. I’ll find you a good man to marry if I have to. There are a lot of other men out there."
Alwin at least tried to console Blanca when her words turned depressed and sad that they could perceive she must be crying.
