Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress -
Chapter 137: I’ll Go With You
Chapter 137: I’ll Go With You
Everyone celebrated the defeat of the monsters since none had reappeared after Ferdinand eliminated the largest with just one blow. For the Safirans, it was their first time witnessing such a feat.
Arabella wanted to scold her husband a bit though while everyone’s attention was elsewhere. She had a lot to say about him playing around during such a dangerous situation.
But before she and Ferdinand could speak with each other, Alwin returned. Thus, they had to listen to his report instead. They had to save their conversation for later.
Riley vanished since he traded places with Alwin to ensure the mines were still guarded.
"Your Majesty, I have recaptured and imprisoned the magician," Alwin reported.
[Why did he have to return right now when I was supposed to speak with my wife?!]
Ferdinand glared at Alwin since he wanted to know soonest why Arabella seemed angry at him.
Alwin thought he must have done something wrong but didn’t know what it was. He thought he must have taken too long to return so Ferdinand was irritated and thus apologized for it.
It wasn’t the problem though.
"Did you find what he was after?" Ferdinand finally asked after glaring at Alwin for a few seconds.
"Yes, Your Majesty. It was indeed what was deep in the mountain. The dryad was protecting it but he tried to force his way in. I stopped him before he kills the dryad by making her exhaust her remaining life force."
Alwin informed them that the dryad was also lurking underground protecting the creature that was causing the magic ores in Mt. Esme. They have to get past her in order to retrieve the creature.
Ferdinand and Alwin secretly planned to retrieve it and bring it to Estrella.
After all, if it remained in Mt. Esme, it may attract the attention of other magicians and cause problems for Safiro again.
"I see. It seems we have to head there."
Ferdinand was about to instruct Alwin to teleport Arabella back to the palace for today since it was just a few hours before sunset.
For the past few days, Arabella stayed in Safiro during daytime to help watch over things. She was teleported back to Valeria Palace at night while Ferdinand and everyone else remained in Safiro.
"I’ll go with you," Arabella held onto Ferdinand’s arm.
"I’d love to bring you with me everywhere I go. But it’s dangerous. We would be underground. The mines may collapse any minute," Ferdinand disagreed.
"Alwin can teleport us out if something happens. I want to see the dryad and what it was protecting."
Arabella knew she was imposing and giving them more work but she had to show her interest in the long-lived races for Ferdinand to see she was open to them and does not negatively think of their existence. She had to show actions to go with her words for him to think about being honest with her about his identity.
Of course, she’s also truly curious about Esmeralda and whatever it was she was protecting.
Since Esmeralda was so kind to have been protecting Safiro for so long, whatever she was protecting must be something precious and good as well.
"I can have them meet you later," Ferdinand reasoned.
Arabella pouted and didn’t reply, acting childish to get what she wanted.
Ferdinand flinched.
[She’s still angry at me and we haven’t had the chance to talk yet. If I deny her for the third time she might just stop speaking to me.] Ferdinand was horrified at the thought.
[Why is she being pushy at such a time? She can always meet them later. Look at His Majesty. He would obviously agree this time.] Alwin frowned.
"Your Majesty, leave the groundwork to us. We will have them meet you in the palace later, so please wait for us where it is safest," Alwin spoke before Ferdinand could say yes.
"Alwin, is just another person adding to the group too much for you to handle?" Arabella provoked and she could see veins popping in Alwin’s temples.
[This vixen! She dares to question my ability and suggests I am slacking off right in front of His Majesty.]
"Of course not. I can handle even more people," Alwin faked a smile despite his annoyance.
"I knew it! Alwin is so capable. There’s no problem with me tagging along then," Arabella smiled and Ferdinand and Alwin run out of reasons to dissuade her so they ended up letting her tag along.
She knew it wasn’t really that dangerous anymore since Alwin would just teleport them where it was.
Moreover, if there was any danger, everyone around her seems to be overpowered in some way so she doesn’t really have to worry about her safety.
Ferdinand was on her right, Alwin on the left, and Rendell behind them. She was assured nothing would happen to her.
Ferdinand gave instructions to the knights and Arabella instructed Nadia to help her people in whatever way she could.
Alwin then teleported the four of them to the mines and Riley was there waiting for them.
The mine was dark but there were blue things glowing on the walls.
Magic ores.
There was so much of it since it was almost blue everywhere. No wonder the Safirans had been mining it day and night for years, yet, they still got a lot of magic ores.
Alwin made a lamp out of magic and lit up their surroundings.
Arabella couldn’t see the magician anywhere so she surmised Alwin must have imprisoned him somewhere secure this time so he wouldn’t be able to escape again.
She blinked repeatedly when beside Riley, there were a lot of tree roots covering a part of the wall which was supposed to be earth, rocks, and magic ores. It was thick and yet further thickened as they got closer.
Arabella was wide-eyed as she watched the roots move as if they were alive.
Alwin touched the roots and his hands glowed from using magic.
