Chapter 172: A beautiful Ending
"Mom," Claire said, "The past is in the past. You don’t have to worry about it."
Alex added, "Claire, Leander, and I are a family. We’ll always be together."
Hearing this, Emma’s expression changed drastically.
"But I’m also part of this family!" she protested.
Alex’s tone turned sharp. "Mom, your presence here is unnecessary."
With that, he stood and walked over to Claire.
"Let’s go upstairs and rest," he said.
Claire nodded, holding Leander’s little hand.
As Alex and Claire left, Emma trembled with anger.
At the same time, a deep sadness settled in her heart.
The son she loved the most had just said such cruel words to her.
She was supposed to be the matriarch of this family, yet her own son wouldn’t even look at her.
Was she really that unbearable?
After a long silence, Emma packed her bags and left the family’s home.
Hearing the front door close, Claire turned to Alex and asked, "Wasn’t that a little too harsh on her?"
Alex frowned slightly. "You’re overthinking it."
"Our family is finally reunited. I won’t let anyone ruin this, not even my own mother."
Claire remained silent.
The Next Day – Miller Family’s Old Estate
In the grand living room, members of the Miller family’s leadership from across the country had gathered.
Jack stood in the center, his expression filled with shame.
"I’ve disgraced the Miller family," he admitted.
His remorseful demeanor made the family members sigh.
After all, Jack had made a huge mistake.
Over the past few days, the Miller family had been highly active. Even though a drug scandal had erupted, thanks to Alex’s swift actions, the situation had been managed without severe repercussions.
Many were impressed by his handling of the crisis.
But Jack...
His actions were inexcusable. Betraying the family at his age was utterly unforgivable.
Jack lowered his head, not daring to look up.
An old man’s voice broke the silence, slow and deliberate:
"Jack, do you have anything to explain?"
"You caused this incident, yet now you try to shift the responsibility. Don’t you feel that you’ve lost your dignity in the Smith family by doing this?"
Jack’s body trembled.
"I... I didn’t want this."
"Unfortunately, there’s no cure for regret in this world. Since you made a mistake, you must have the courage to face the consequences."
Jack remained silent, cursing his own impulsiveness.
Blinded by jealousy, he had made a foolish decision, and now he was paying the price. Sweat gathered on his forehead as his body shook uncontrollably.
"Since you’ve made amends, and I’ve already cleaned up the mess for you, let’s put this behind us," Alex said, breaking the tense silence.
Everyone was startled—they hadn’t expected Alex to be the one to let it go first.
Jack stared at him in disbelief. "Forget it? Just like that?"
The corners of Alex’s lips curled slightly as he nodded. "No one is perfect. Since you’ve reached an age where you should step back, don’t overestimate your place in Smith Group’s affairs."
"I’ll arrange for you to leave the country. From now on, you’ll live abroad and take care of yourself."
Jack’s pupils contracted, his heart clenching with despair.
A wave of helplessness washed over him as he collapsed onto the sofa. His influence in the Smith family was completely erased.
His anxiety grew, sweat pouring down his forehead. He wasn’t afraid of being scolded—he was afraid that no one would ever trust him again.
Alex, who had been watching in silence, chuckled inwardly.
"This mess was yours to begin with," Alex said. "You should be the one to clean it up."
After the incident, Alex’s position in the Smith family became even more unshakable.
Once Jack was sent abroad, the conflict finally came to an end.
---
Some time later, Claire opened her eyes, finding herself inside a helicopter.
The familiar surroundings cleared her drowsiness in an instant. She sat up quickly, looking around for Alex.
Hearing movement, Alex turned and smiled gently.
"You’re awake?"
"Where are we going?" Claire asked, struggling to sit up.
"To the fishing village," Alex replied.
Claire’s face lit up with surprise. "Really?!"
"Of course," Alex said. "Since Miller Group acquired the land, we’ve been renovating it. Now that it’s complete, I thought it was time for you to see the changes."
"That’s wonderful!" Claire exclaimed.
Seeing her excitement, Alex couldn’t resist teasing her. "You seem really eager to go back."
"Of course," Claire said naturally.
She hadn’t been back in a long time. The fishing village held so many memories, and now she had the chance to see it again.
Alex smiled but said nothing.
He glanced at Leander, who was still asleep, and chuckled.
"This is the first time the three of us are visiting together," he said. "I wonder how it’ll feel to return after all these years."
Half an hour later, the helicopter landed on a mountaintop overlooking the fishing village.
Claire looked down at the familiar yet unfamiliar landscape, emotions welling up inside her.
The last time she had left, everything was different. Now, the village had changed, but something about it still felt like home.
She stood in silence, her eyes glistening.
Alex approached her, holding Leander in his arms.
"Why are you crying?" he asked softly.
Claire wiped her eyes and laughed bitterly. "I just suddenly remembered the past. It’s overwhelming."
Taking a deep breath, she turned her gaze toward the village below.
Villagers had already begun gathering, curious about their arrival.
As Claire walked through the streets, she couldn’t help but feel nostalgic.
The village had been transformed, but the memories remained.
Alex walked beside her, watching her expression soften with warmth.
At that moment, a familiar voice called out Claire’s name.
She turned and saw a group of villagers approaching, smiling in recognition.
Despite the passing years, some things hadn’t changed. The people she had known since childhood were still here, and their faces, though older, were just as welcoming. Including the members of the James family who has always looked down on her and calling her names. Now they are all beneath her.
Claire greeted the villagers warmly not giving much attention to the James Family members present, her heart swelling with an unexpected sense of belonging.
Alex led her into an ancient courtyard filled with vibrant flowers, lush greenery, and the soothing fragrance of fresh blossoms.
"This place was restored with you in mind," Alex said.
Claire looked around, taking in the beauty of the carefully arranged plants, the small tea garden, and the peaceful ambiance.
"You knew I’d love this," she murmured, her voice filled with emotion.
Alex smiled. "I wanted you to have a place that felt like home."
Claire turned to him, her eyes shining.
"It already does."
An old man followed behind, his eyes full of smiles. Since he had been brought back, this son-in-law had been taking care of him diligently. He had helped rebuilt the village that no one ever dreamed of, he could finally rest assured that this village is going to flourish more under his care and influence.
Claire and Alex sat in the living room together. She sat on the sofa, looking around at the furnishings.
Alex asked, "What do you think?"
"It’s pretty good," Claire sincerely praised.
"I also kept a house for us"
When Claire heard his words, she couldn’t help but be surprised.
"You plan to live here?"
"it’s peaceful here as always, we won’t be disturbed when making a baby" Alex whispered.
Claire smiled shyly and said "your head is always full of naughtiness"
He had originally planned to establish his own company here, but he thought Claire would be more suited to live in a simpler and warmer place—somewhere peaceful, where she could truly relax.
"Do you remember the first time I saw you?"
"I remember you telling me that this was a place where all worries and sorrows could be taken away," Alex replied with a smile.
Hearing this, Claire’s face flushed slightly.
This man—he really is...
She couldn’t help but feel a little excited, looking forward to their future together.
Alex and Claire settled into the fishing village.
During the day, they walked through the village, familiarizing themselves with the people and surroundings. At night, they would stroll along the beach, enjoying the sound of the waves and the salty breeze.
Although life here was simple, it was peaceful.
Every evening, Alex and Claire would sit on the shore, watching the tide rise and fall. The vast ocean stretched endlessly before them, reflecting the moon’s glow.
As they sat together, Alex would tell stories—about his experiences, the places he had been, and the dreams he still held. Claire listened intently, feeling a warmth spread in her heart.
Even in the quiet moments, their hearts were connected.
The night deepened, and the waves crashed against the shore, sweeping away scattered pebbles, leaving behind a fresh and untouched canvas of sand.
The sound of the ocean echoed in the distance, as if whispering about new beginnings.
