Rebirth to take revenge -
Chapter 171: Jack
Chapter 171: Jack
Alex smiled coldly.
"The Miller family has always valued results over sentiment."
"I gave you a chance, but you refused to take it."
"So don’t blame me for being ruthless, Uncle."
He turned toward the doorway and commanded, "Come in!"
Immediately, several men in black suits entered the living room.
Jack was now surrounded by bodyguards, their expressions unreadable. Guns rested firmly in their hands, pointed at him.
Alex’s voice was chillingly calm as he issued his final order.
"Tie Jack up and take him to the cliff behind the house."
"Then throw him off."
Jack’s face turned deathly pale. His entire body trembled with fear.
Alex looked at Jack condescendingly and said,
"What? Do you still want to struggle?"
"That’s fine. I can take my time with you, and you can slowly experience a life worse than death."
After saying this, Alex turned and left the living room.
As soon as his words fell, Jack shouted loudly, struggling against the bodyguards restraining him.
"Let me go! Let me go!"
"I can redeem myself!"
Without turning his head, Alex responded coldly, "I’m not interested. I’ll let you stew in this."
"The Miller family has its own rules. I do what I say, and no one dares to stop me!"
Hearing this, Jack became completely flustered, his voice trembling with desperation.
"I am willing! I am willing to surrender!"
"Just let me go!"
Alex stopped in his tracks, turned around, and looked at Jack with a half-smile.
"Alright, as long as you can convince the rest of the Miller family, I’ll let you go."
"What? You can’t do it?"
"N-No... I... I can!"
Alex stared at Jack and asked,
"Then tell me, will the members of the Miller family agree to your surrender?"
Jack gritted his teeth and responded,
"The Miller family will never agree to my surrender. After all, our family’s reputation cannot allow such a disgrace to spread."
"Besides, if this gets out, what will become of the Miller family’s name?"
"I know the family will never allow such a thing to happen!"
Hearing this, Alex nodded.
"As expected of someone who understands family interests. Your thinking is meticulous enough."
Jack clenched his jaw. "I’ll try my best to persuade them!"
"Very well, then give it your best shot," Alex said indifferently.
He glanced at Jack one last time before adding, "I have other matters to attend to, so I’m leaving now."
Jack ignored him, completely panicked and unsure of how to handle the situation.
Claire glanced at Jack but ultimately said nothing and followed Alex out.
Once they got into the car, Claire asked,
"Will Jack really comply?"
"I have my own arrangements."
"Oh," Claire replied before changing the subject. "How do you plan to handle your company’s affairs?"
Alex frowned slightly. "You don’t need to worry about that. Just focus on yourself."
With that, he started the car and drove away from Powell’s family villa.
Instead of returning to his own place, Alex headed elsewhere.
This location wasn’t far from Miller Group’s headquarters. After a few minutes of driving, he arrived at a high-end office building.
After glancing at the building’s sign, Alex got out of the car and walked straight inside.
Knock, knock.
A voice from inside responded, "Come in."
Alex pushed open the door and entered, his gaze landing on a man deeply immersed in work.
"Long time no see, my able secretary," Alex said casually.
The man looked up—it was Louis.
He put down his pen, narrowed his eyes slightly, and smirked.
"Heh, isn’t this President Miller?"
"You still remember that you have a Group to manage?"
Louis feigned disappointment. "I thought you forgot."
Alex chuckled. "With you in charge, I’m at ease."
Louis noticed the hint of mockery in Alex’s tone but wasn’t offended. Instead, he got straight to the point.
"What do you need from me?"
Alex walked to the desk, sat down casually, crossed his legs, and said,
"I have a task for you. If you do it well, you’ll receive 15% of my own shares."
Louis raised an eyebrow.
"And if things go wrong?"
Alex’s tone remained indifferent.
"Then all of Miller Group’s shares will belong to me personally."
Louis was silent for a moment before asking, "What’s the job?"
"You already know about the Miller Group’s new medication. I’ll give you the formula."
"Find the right people to refine it, make it effective, and distribute it."
"Then get it approved and integrated into Western Medical Clinic."
Alex’s voice was slow but firm.
Louis’s face showed a flicker of shock.
"Are you serious about this, Alex?"
Alex nodded.
"Are you crazy?"
Louis’s expression changed.
Alex sneered. "Why? Do you think this is a bad idea?"
"Don’t forget your relationship with Jack! Think about it—if this medicine is successfully developed, Jack won’t have to worry about being backed into a corner. Do you think he’d be grateful to us?"
Louis’s expression shifted several times. After a long pause, he finally nodded in agreement.
"Alright."
"I’m just a secretary. I follow the boss’s orders."
Alex gave him a meaningful glance.
"Then get to work. I expect results by tomorrow morning."
Louis didn’t say another word. He simply turned and left the office.

Back at home...
Claire stood frozen, staring at the mess in the room.
"How... how did this happen?"
"Claire, are you okay?"
Hearing the voice, Claire turned her head to find Emma standing behind her.
"Mom, why are you here?"
Emma smiled warmly. "I came to help you clean up."
"There were too many hazardous items in your room. I was afraid they might hurt the children."
"So, I packed everything up and was about to throw them away."
As she spoke, Emma emptied the trash can.
Claire’s expression darkened as she looked at the discarded items.
A creeping suspicion began to form in her mind.
Emma did it on purpose.
"Claire, why are you looking at me like that?" Emma asked blankly. "I don’t mean any harm, I just think you need a change of environment."
"Leander is still so young. Right now, nothing is too important, but if anything happens, there could be hidden dangers."
Emma’s persuasive tone only deepened Claire’s suspicion that she had an ulterior motive. However, she didn’t show it and simply said:
"Thank you, Mom."
"There’s nothing to thank me for." Emma waved her hand dismissively. "Go take a shower. We have dinner tonight, so let’s rest early."
With that, Emma headed to the kitchen to help with cooking.
Watching her busy figure, Claire fell into deep thought.
Was Emma planning to move in?
It seemed likely. Otherwise, with Emma’s personality, she would never have moved in so soon.
"Claire, I made some food. Call Alex and tell him to come home early after work."
"Oh, and wake Leander while you’re at it."
Emma’s voice rang out.
"Alright, I got it."
Claire nodded, picked up her phone from the sofa, and opened her contacts.
She hesitated briefly before dialing Alex’s number.
Beep, beep.
This time, the call connected quickly.
"Hello."
"It’s me."
Hearing Claire’s voice, Alex’s tone softened. "What’s wrong?"
"Um..."
"Go ahead," Alex prompted, waiting patiently.
"Where are you?" Claire asked.
Alex chuckled. "I’m at work. What’s wrong? Do you miss me? I’ll come right back."
Claire hesitated before saying, "Mom is here, and I want you to come home for dinner. Also... it looks like she’s planning to live here."
Silence.
After a moment, Alex finally spoke.
"Talk to her for now. I’ll be home soon."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Alex’s expression darkened into a sneer.
Meanwhile, Emma had finished cooking and called out, "Claire, it’s time to eat."
Claire responded and walked out of the room, followed by Leander, who had just woken up.
Seeing that Alex wasn’t there, Emma frowned.
"Is Alex not coming back?" she asked, displeased.
Claire shook her head. "I already called him. He’ll be home soon."
With that, Claire picked up Leander and sat down at the table. Looking at the feast before her, she said, "Let’s wait until he gets back."
Emma nodded. "Alright."
Dinner was sumptuous. Alex and Leander ate heartily, but Emma seemed uneasy.
Claire, glancing at the remaining food in her bowl, felt a little uncomfortable.
Noticing her discomfort, Alex shot Emma a cold look and said, "Mom, thank you for cooking, but there’s no need to trouble yourself in the future."
"I can hire a chef."
Emma’s face darkened. "This is my duty as part of this family."
She added, "I watched you grow up, Alex. You and Leander’s status will always make you targets. Hiring a chef is risky. What if—"
"Even so, Claire can cook," Alex interrupted.
Emma’s expression turned even uglier.
"Alex, I’m doing this for your own good," she insisted.
"You don’t need to say that," Alex replied coolly. "You’ve taken care of me for years—I remember that. But now, I have my own family. It’s time for me to live my own life."
Emma’s eyes filled with tears. "I won’t hide it from you. I’ve spent years looking for Claire. I regret my choices from the past. If I hadn’t been so negligent, Claire and Leander wouldn’t have been homeless. I just want to make up for it."
Tears streamed down her face.
Claire’s eyes flickered briefly before returning to normal.
Emma was acting—Claire could see right through her. But she didn’t bother exposing it.
