Rebirth to take revenge -
Chapter 169: Smart Watch
Chapter 169: Smart Watch
Their conversation was also clearly audible.
"Mr. Miller, this matter is not as simple as it seems. The person who developed this medicine has always been Terry. Although he is a veteran of Miller Group, he has always worked for Jack."
"So we must find out what he’s up to!"
"Yeah, I also think that this matter is not so easy or good."
Listening to the words in her ear, Claire’s heart pounded, and her face turned pale. Jack’s illness... but she had cured it. Unexpectedly, after he got well, he was still undeterred and attacked Alex’s company again. This Terry was truly bold.
Just when Claire was in a state of confusion, Leander continued, "Mom, don’t worry. Dad will be fine. As long as I’m here, no one dares to touch Dad’s company."
Hearing this, Claire nodded absentmindedly and said, "Yes, Mom knows."
Leander smiled slightly and said, "Mom, I’ll watch first. I’ll get something."
After that, he ran upstairs with his chubby feet. Claire focused her eyes on the projection on the wall, feeling confused. As time passed bit by bit, Claire’s heart grew more and more flustered.
Until Alex disappeared from the screen.
At the end of the meeting, Alex picked up his mobile phone. When he saw Claire’s missed call, a flash of guilt crossed his eyes. He quickly dialed back. The call connected instantly, and he said, "Claire, did you call me just now?"
Claire’s breathing stagnated, and after a while, she asked in a hoarse voice, "Are you... still in the meeting?"
Hearing this, Alex frowned slightly and said, "Not anymore. Today’s incident, I’m sorry. The company suddenly had some small problems. I didn’t go to pick you up and Leander. Would you come out of the Greg family house with your lips pouting in disappointment?"
Listening to Alex’s teasing tone, Claire couldn’t laugh at all. She took a deep breath, trying to make her tone calmer, and asked, "Did you encounter any trouble? Is there anything I can do for you?"
Hearing her trembling voice, a trace of guilt flashed across Alex’s heart.
"Claire, I made you worry. All you can do for me is wait for me at home obediently. I’ll be back right away."
"Mhm."
Claire nodded slightly, said goodbye, and hung up the phone. After ending the call, she sat on the sofa decadently, wringing her fingers, feeling torn in her heart.
In the end, should she tell Alex the truth? If Alex knew that she had peeked at his meeting minutes and that she had played a role in curing Jack again, would he hate her so much that he would gnash his teeth? After all, this kind of behavior was tantamount to betrayal. However, keeping it from him was deception.
How should she choose?
"Ding dong, ding dong."
The doorbell rang outside, waking Claire from her deep thoughts. She raised her head just in time to see Alex stepping inside. The moment her eyes met his, a little panic flashed in her gaze, and she subconsciously lowered her head. This scene did not escape
Alex’s notice.
"What’s the matter? Looking guilty?"
"Stealing someone behind my back?"
Claire: "..."
She pursed her lips in embarrassment and explained, "No! What nonsense are you talking about? How dare I do such a thing?"
After Claire finished speaking, Alex walked over to the sofa and sat down. His arms rested on the arm of the sofa, his posture relaxed.
"If you don’t dare, it doesn’t prove that others won’t. Did that guy Josh do something to you?" he asked, narrowing his eyes.
Hearing Alex’s words, Claire raised her head abruptly. Seeing the dangerous glint in his eyes, she subconsciously swallowed and quickly denied, "No... no, Josh treats me very well. How could he do such a thing?"
With that, Claire turned her head irritably and said, "What nonsense are you talking about? I didn’t do those things at all."
Claire’s words eased Alex’s expression, but he still had no intention of letting her go.
"Really don’t have?"
"No! Nothing is nothing!"
Claire said a little angrily.
Seeing Claire’s angry little face, Alex smiled slightly and said, "It’s fine if I don’t have one. I believe in my woman, and I also believe that Josh doesn’t have the guts."
Leander, who heard the voice, ran out of the bedroom. Seeing Alex, he said happily, "Dad, you’re back."
Upon hearing this, Alex reached out, touched Leander’s head, and said softly, "Leander, tell Dad, did Mom do anything with Uncle Josh that she needs to apologize to Dad for while I was away?"
Hearing Alex’s words, Claire’s face darkened, and she suddenly became a little angry.
Leander blinked and obediently said, "Leander was a teacher for a day today, teaching Uncle Josh how to play with watches."
"Mom, I should say that I played with the mobile phone all day. However, it was Uncle Josh who sent us home."
Hearing Leander’s words, Claire almost choked in frustration. She glared at Alex and growled in a low voice, "Alex, that’s enough!"
"It’s a pity that I worried about you so much, yet you’re here interrogating me like a suspect."
Leander nodded along and said, "Mom is right, it’s Dad’s fault."
"Dad doesn’t know, but something happened to your company, and Mom was so worried that she nearly lost her mind. If I hadn’t stopped her by showing her the surveillance footage, she would have rushed to your company to look for you."
As soon as these words came out, Alex’s smiling eyes froze, and he asked doubtfully, "What surveillance?"
Claire was startled and quickly pulled Leander aside, saying, "Leander..."
However, Leander raised his watch as if presenting a treasure and said, "It’s the surveillance footage from Dad’s meeting room. With this watch, I can easily access it."
After speaking, the child proudly put the watch on his left wrist and shook it. "Dad, isn’t it cool?"
Hearing Leander’s words, Claire’s mouth twitched. The moment she saw the watch, she had the urge to cry. She looked at Alex with helpless eyes.
For a moment, Claire didn’t know how to face him. Should she admit it? Be straightforward? Or just accept it and run away with Leander?
Seeing her unpredictable expression, Alex couldn’t hold back anymore and burst into laughter.
"Claire, you are really adorable."
Alex’s charming eyes curved into crescent shapes as he gazed at Claire with deep affection.
"Are you afraid that I will be upset with you?"
"I..." Claire was momentarily speechless.
"You are my wife, and Leander is my child. You have every right to know everything about me. If you want to know what happens in my meetings, I’ll take you with me to all of them from now on."
Claire was stunned and stammered, "No... it’s your business after all. I thought you would be angry."
"Angry about what?" Alex continued smiling. "Do you think I would harm my own family over something like this?"
Claire was at a loss for words. She certainly never intended to harm him, but it was true that she had saved Jack. In doing so, had she indirectly harmed Alex?
Looking at Claire’s distressed little face, Alex reached out and gently pinched her cheek. "Alright, don’t overthink it. You’re just too cautious."
Claire was indeed overly cautious. As the saying goes, "excessive worry brings confusion." After pondering for a while, she finally admitted, "Actually, I am at fault in this matter."
"After all, it was because I saved Jack that he had the opportunity to hurt you again."
Upon hearing this, Alex’s brow furrowed slightly. He reached out, ruffled Claire’s hair, and said with a gentle smile, "Silly girl, do you think such a small matter could affect our relationship?"
"Besides, I’ve already taken care of it. Now, I just need to wait for the right moment."
"Moreover, when you decided to save him, I was already prepared for the consequences."
Alex’s words made Claire breathe a sigh of relief. She pushed away his hand playfully and muttered, "That’s good, then."
Alex chuckled and continued to comfort her, "It’s not your fault. You gave Jack a chance, but he didn’t know how to appreciate it."
"Since he doesn’t value it, I will handle him accordingly."
Hearing his words, Claire couldn’t help but shiver. A chill ran through her, but she was still surprised by Alex’s response.
"You’ve changed. You’re not quite the same person anymore," Claire observed, her voice soft.
"If this were before, you probably would have thrown me out,"
Alex smirked mischievously. "With such a beautiful wife, how could I bear to throw you out?" he teased. If you were going to throw me out, you should have thrown me onto the bed,"
Claire snapped, her face turning red. She glared at him and scolded, "What are you saying in front of the child?!"
Alex turned to Leander, still grinning. "You’re quite impressive, kid. You actually hacked into Dad’s conference room?"
"It seems the security at Miller Group is still too weak," he mused. "But the money spent on this watch was not wasted—it’s quite useful."
Leander smirked. "Of course! This is a gift from Dad to me, so it has to be powerful."
Upon hearing Leander’s words, both Alex and Claire were shocked.
