Rebirth to take revenge
Chapter 163: Emma is here

Chapter 163: Emma is here

Claire thought about her experience with Josh and couldn’t help but purse her lips, saying,

"At the beginning, I didn’t give him much respect and mocked him a few times. Maybe that’s why he has a different impression of me?"

After finishing speaking, Claire looked at Alex and said,

"Don’t you rich men have strong self-esteem? Maybe that’s why Josh behaved like this.

Other than that, nothing more."

After speaking, she pushed Alex’s arm away again, preparing to flee the room. However, her wrist was held again.

"Wait!"

Alex said.

"I..."

Claire looked at Alex, blinking in doubt.

"Claire, you know I’m very possessive. I can’t let Josh have feelings for you. If I collide with him, will you blame me?"

Alex added.

"Of course not, I only love you."

Claire shook her head quickly.

Alex’s face softened a bit, but he didn’t relax his grip on Claire; instead, he tightened his hold and continued,

"Then, no matter what happens between me and him, don’t stop it, okay?"

Hearing this, Claire frowned a little and said hesitantly,

"Alex, how old are you? Don’t cause trouble for no reason. Besides, now Josh is my brother in name, so that makes him your brother-in-Law."

"What do you think he can do to me?"

Claire pretended to be relaxed and said.

"That’s different. Josh’s character is more impulsive. I’m afraid he might act against you!"

Alex replied.

"You think too much. I believe Josh won’t do that."

Claire said firmly.

"Alright."

Alex sighed helplessly and said,

"Claire, you are really the most stubborn girl I’ve ever met. I hope that before our wedding, we can get through this safely."

Claire’s eyes lit up when she heard the words and said quickly,

"Alex, I don’t want anything to go wrong with this wedding either. Okay, don’t forget that we need to take Leander out."

Claire smiled as she spoke.

Hearing this, Alex thought of Leander. He turned his head and saw Leander looking at him curiously.

"Dad, are you bullying Mom?"

Leander asked.

Alex smiled,

"Why, Dad is protecting Mom."

After finishing, he stretched out a hand to stroke Leander’s soft hair.

"Oh I’m relieved now."

Leander sighed with relief.

When Alex saw this, the smile on his face became even more gentle.

Claire, on the side, saw the interaction between Alex and Leander, father and son, with a satisfied smile on her face, and a sense of happiness hidden deep in her eyes.

"Let’s go, it’s getting late, our plan can’t be delayed."

Alex said to Claire and Leander.

"Um."

Claire nodded, then took Leander’s little hand and followed Alex out of the Alex residence.

As soon as they walked out of the house, they saw Emma carrying a large and small parcel in her hand.

"Mom? Why are you here?"

Alex glanced at her in surprise and said doubtfully.

Emma’s thoughts were all on Leander.

Hearing Alex’s question, she reacted, handed all the presents she was holding to Claire, and said,

"Claire, I’m here to apologize to you. I was out of line with what I said earlier, and I hope you don’t take it to heart."

Claire took what Emma was holding.

She smiled lightly and said,

"Don’t worry, I won’t take it to heart."

Seeing Claire’s indifferent expression, Emma’s heart sank. She knew that Claire was still angry with her. But so what? She can’t just watch her precious grandson suffer because of her mistakes!

Emma was anxious in her heart and said again,

"Well, what I said earlier was also for the sake of this family.

Old Master Powell is gone, Alex’s father left early, and his uncle is not in good health."

"If something happens to Leander I can’t forgive myself.

"How can I explain it to them?"

Emma said.

"I understand," Claire responded.

Although she didn’t approve of Emma’s behavior, she didn’t want to hold grudges over something minor. Besides, the values instilled by her grandmother since childhood taught her to treat family with kindness and respect her elders.

"It’s good that you understand."

Emma sighed in relief upon hearing Claire’s response and continued, "Claire, I’ve always had a good impression of you. I never objected to you being with Alex again... It’s just that Cole..."

At the mention of Cole’s name, Emma’s expression changed slightly—fear and worry flickered across her face.

"Mom, Cole is dead," Claire said.

Emma was stunned.

"Claire, I heard..." Emma hesitated, her voice trembling. "So... I came to see you and apologize."

"I heard Alex say that you won’t forgive me, and Leander doesn’t want to see me. So, I gathered the courage to visit."

"Claire, for Leander’s sake, please forgive me this time, okay?"

"I don’t know what else to do."

"I’m not asking you to completely forgive me, but I’d be grateful if you could just give me a chance."

Tears rolled down Emma’s cheeks as she spoke.

Seeing this, Alex frowned, slightly annoyed.

"Mom..." Claire couldn’t bear it and softly called out.

"Claire, I beg you, okay?" Emma grasped Claire’s hand.

"Okay, I promise you."

"Thank you, thank you!" Emma burst into tears.

Claire sighed and said, "Don’t cry. I’ll feel bad for you."

"Let’s go upstairs and talk."

With that, Claire took Leander’s hand and went upstairs.

In the Bedroom

Claire looked at Emma, who was sitting on the sofa with hopeful eyes. She felt a little irritated.

"Mom, what did you come here for?" Claire asked.

Emma was startled.

"Claire, I just miss Leander. I wanted to see him."

"Hee Hee... is he okay?"

Claire sighed, then waved to Leander, who was hiding behind her.

"Go ahead, let Grandma see you."

Leander hesitated before stepping out from behind Claire and obediently calling out, "Grandma."

"Oh!"

Hearing Leander call her "Grandma," Emma’s tears flowed even more intensely.

"My dear grandson, Grandma is so sorry."

With that, Emma was about to embrace Leander.

Startled, Leander quickly took a step back and hid behind Claire.

Seeing this, Claire forced a bitter smile.

"Mom, calm down."

"Leander is still young. He doesn’t fully understand emotions yet. After spending some time together, he will warm up to you."

"I think he will like you in the future."

Emma wiped away her tears and nodded.

"I see."

"By the way, were you going out just now?"

"Yes," Claire said.

Leander peeked out from behind Claire, his big black eyes curiously observing Emma.

"Grandma, Mom and Dad promised to take me to the robot exhibition today."

"It’s getting late."

Leander pouted, clearly unhappy.

Emma looked at Claire and Alex, a flicker of embarrassment crossing her face.

She had been so caught up in her emotions that she completely forgot about it—even Leander had forgotten. She had only been focused on seeking Claire’s forgiveness.

"Yes, it’s getting late," Emma admitted.

"This exhibition is still on tomorrow, so we don’t have to rush," Alex said with a smile, looking at Claire and Leander.

"Yeah, let’s eat first," Claire suggested. She was starting to feel hungry.

Emma nodded. "Okay, I’ll cook right now. Let’s have a meal together as a family of four."

With that, she quickly turned and went into the kitchen.

Leander stood in the living room, his beautiful, round eyes darting around as if he were deep in thought.

Seeing Alex looking at him, Leander suddenly ran forward and hugged his arm.

"Dad, I want to eat out," Leander said with a grin.

Alex smiled and ruffled Leander’s hair.

Leander laughed happily.

"Of course, you can."

Claire frowned. "Grandma is already cooking. Let’s eat at home today."

Leander shook his head in reluctance. He tugged on Alex’s sleeve and pleaded.

"But... I want to eat out," he whined softly.

His sweet voice made Alex chuckle.

"Alright," Alex said, stroking Leander’s soft hair indulgently.

Hearing this, Leander immediately wrapped his arms around Alex’s neck, giggling.

Seeing Leander’s excitement, Claire sighed.

Leander, now in high spirits, started chatting with Emma.

Alex could only let him have his way.

"Then it’s decided," Leander announced happily.

Later, when they sat down for dinner, Leander frowned at the mountain of vegetables in his bowl. His small face wrinkled in displeasure.

"Grandma, I don’t want to eat this," he pouted.

Emma was taken aback.

"Leander, you’re growing. You need to eat more. Grandma is doing this for your own good," she coaxed.

Leander pursed his lips, eyeing the large chicken leg in his bowl with discontent.

"I don’t want to eat chicken legs," he grumbled.

Claire and Alex exchanged amused glances.

Everyone in the Miller family knew that Leander didn’t like meat.

Smiling, Alex picked up the chicken leg with his chopsticks and placed it in Claire’s bowl.

"If you don’t want it, give it to Mom," he said.

Claire glanced at Emma subtly before looking at the chicken leg in her bowl.

Emma’s face turned pale, her eyes brimming with unshed tears—clearly hurt by Alex’s actions.

Claire had no choice but to pick up the chicken leg, place it in Emma’s bowl, and say,

"I don’t like eating it either, Mom. You have it instead."

"Thank you," Emma forced a smile, took a bite, and then put down her chopsticks.
