Rebirth to take revenge -
Chapter 160: Lucy
Chapter 160: Lucy
"Dad," he greeted Tom, settling on the sofa.
Tom frowned when Simon removed his sunglasses, revealing a bruised face.
"What happened? Who did this to you?"
"It was Alex from the Miller family!"
"What? Are you sure?"
"Yes!"
"You fool! How could you provoke him?"
"Dad, please help me! I’ll be a laughingstock otherwise."
"Do you realize Alex’s status is even higher than mine?" Tom sighed. "We’ll let this go."
"Dad, you’re the mayor!"
"Even if I were a god, we can’t touch him!" Tom cut him off. "His wife is the Grey family’s daughter."
Simon’s eyes widened. "When did the Grey family have a daughter?"
"I don’t know," Sebastian said. "But we can’t provoke them."
Meanwhile, Lucy, who overheard their conversation, knocked on Tom’s door.
"Mr. Hans, it’s me, Lucy."
"Come in," Tom said, smiling.
"Mr. Hans, here’s the quotation for Phillips Corporation."
Tom flipped through the document. "Well done."
"Thank you. Without you, I’d have been ruined."
"It’s just a small favor," he replied.
Simon sneered. "Dad, don’t act too big."
Tom ignored him and asked Lucy, "How much is left of Phillips Corporation’s assets?"
"Less than three million."
"Turn it over to us," Tom said.
Lucy hesitated. "But Phillips Corporation is my family’s business. I’m just one person..."
"You can’t handle it alone. I’ve already arranged for someone to manage it."
Lucy was taken aback. "What are you trying to do?"
"I want to use this to improve Phillips reputation. You’re the daughter of the Phillips City, and that identity must be preserved."
"But I don’t know anything about business," Lucy admitted.
"It’s decided. Focus on your work, and leave the rest to me," Tom said.
"How is your family?"
"They’re well," Lucy answered.
"Good. You can leave."
Lucy nodded and left. Although Josh had kept his distance, she felt like she had done him a favor.
"Josh," Lucy murmured, eyes shining. She was used to high society’s cutthroat nature. But Josh was different.
Yet Lucy understood there was no romantic relationship between them.
Between them, Josh helping her was already going above and beyond. Finally, Lucy breathed a sigh of relief.
At the Miller villa, Claire and Alex held Leander’s hands, sitting on the sofa in the living room.
After changing his last name, Leander’s face looked even more refined, but his overall features still resembled Alex.
"Mom, Dad."
Leander raised his head and smiled as he called out.
"Mm." Claire nodded and smiled. "Leander, you really look more and more like your dad."
"I think so too."
Alex ruffled Leander’s hair and laughed. "You were such a kid, always sticking to me when you were younger."
After speaking, Alex turned around and looked at Claire meaningfully. "If we have a daughter, she’ll definitely look like you."
Claire blushed at his words.
"You..."
"Haha, look how shy you are."
Alex laughed heartily. Claire had a gentle personality, and their relationship as a couple was very close. When Leander was younger, he often stuck to Alex, who loved and spoiled him to the extreme.
"Leander, do you want a little sister?"
"I do. Of course, I want one," Leander said excitedly.
Looking at the two similar faces, Claire felt emotional. Alex and Leander were both so handsome. If she had a daughter, would she really look like her?
"Ahem..." Alex cleared his throat twice and said, "Claire, I want to talk to you alone for a moment."
"Oh, then Leander can play by himself. Dad and I will go to the room and talk for a few minutes."
Claire got up and walked into the bedroom, closing the door behind her. She sat on the edge of the bed, feeling a little nervous. What did Alex want to talk about?
"Claire, I remember that I owe you a wedding."
"You... remembered?" Claire’s heart trembled. "At that time, you weren’t..."
Alex nodded. "I remember everything now."
"So, Miss Claire, would you like to marry me?"
Claire’s face turned red, and a happy smile curved her lips. She nodded and said, "I do."
They looked into each other’s eyes, and the air was filled with happiness. Alex hugged Claire tightly and said, his voice trembling, "I’ll repay everything I owe you."
Claire buried her face in Alex’s chest, feeling his strong heartbeat and intense happiness. But then, her smile froze, and she pulled away, saying,
"Speaking of weddings, it seems like Mr. Celine and my mom’s wedding is scheduled for tomorrow."
"En, then let’s prepare quickly," Alex smiled and said. He knew what the wedding meant to Claire—it was only a matter of time before her mother married Mr. Celine. Before that, he wanted Claire’s mother to have a grand wedding. Claire nodded in agreement.
The next morning, Alex brought Claire to the Greg family home. Josh had been waiting for a long time. Seeing the tall and handsome young man in front of her, Claire was slightly stunned.
"Mr. Greg, hello," she greeted.
"Call me brother," Josh said coldly.
"Oh." Claire blushed and lowered her head, calling out, "Brother."
"En," Josh nodded with a faint smile. "Come in quickly. You’re the bridesmaid today."
Claire’s heart skipped a beat. "Bridesmaid? Why me?"
"Our parents are getting married, and not only you, but I have to be the best man," Josh said awkwardly. Looking at Alex, he added, "Besides, you’re my sister. If you don’t do it, who will?"
Alex’s expression darkened. "This matter isn’t urgent." He took Claire’s arm and walked inside.
Josh snorted and left. Claire looked at Alex’s serious face and tried to calm him. "Alex, Josh is right. The bridesmaid duties should be mine."
Alex sighed, seeing Claire’s determination. "Okay."
Claire’s face lit up, and she pulled Alex into the living room. "Uncle Celine, Mom, you both look so beautiful today," she greeted warmly.
Mr. Celine and Miss Sophia exchanged satisfied glances.
"Claire, why call him Uncle Celine? You should call him Dad," Mr. Celine said with a smile.
"Dad..." Claire whispered, lowering her head.
Mr. Celine beamed. "Good, good, good."
Alex, listening on the side, felt inexplicably unhappy. He couldn’t bear hearing Claire call Mr. Celine "Dad."
"How are your preparations going?" Miss Sophia asked.
"We’re all set," Claire replied.
"Good," Miss Sophia said. "Claire, this is your new home. You can move in here."
"Thank you, Mom," Claire smiled. "But we have our own home, and Leander likes it there more."
"Leander? Oh, I heard you already have a child. Is it true?" Miss Sophia asked.
Claire smiled. "Yes, he’s Alex and my child."
"Oh, that’s wonderful!" Miss Sophia’s smile widened. She was thrilled to have a grandchild.
"How old is he?"
"five," Claire replied.
"So young!" Miss Sophia marveled. "I never thought your child would be three already."
"Yes," Claire nodded.
"Mom, Alex and I will go upstairs to change clothes," Claire said.
"Okay," Miss Sophia watched them go. Then she turned to Josh. "Josh, find a wife soon. I’m waiting for more grandchildren."
Josh paused, her words causing a pang in his heart.
The wedding scene was lively. Luxury cars parked outside, and guests flooded the hotel lobby. The Greg family’s grandeur was on full display.
Holding Claire’s hand, Alex slowly walked into the hotel, attracting the attention of everyone present.
"I heard that Miss Sophia has an extraordinary background. Her daughter is the wife of the young master of the Miller Group!"
"Now that she’s married into the Greg family, it’s a powerful alliance."
"Tsk tsk, the Miller family is really wealthy and influential."
"Indeed, the young master and young mistress of the Miller family are a perfect match."
"Absolutely!"
Alex had a tall and strong figure, delicate skin, and extraordinary features with sharp edges and corners. His deep, pitch-black eyes emitted a charming light, and every move he made exuded a natural, kingly aura.
Claire, standing next to Alex, was beautiful and graceful. Together, they looked like a match made in heaven. Alex’s white tailcoat complemented his handsome appearance perfectly, making them an enviable couple.
"Claire, look, everyone envies us," Alex said with a confident smile.
Claire held his arm, her face glowing with happiness. "Yes," she agreed softly.
Alex’s gaze swept the room and landed on two familiar faces not far away. A flash of disdain crossed his eyes.
Those two were Tom and his son, Simon. They walked over with ingratiating smiles.
"Congratulations, Alex," Tom said.
"Thank you," Alex replied flatly.
"Where are you headed, Alex?" Tom asked with a fawning grin.
"To a wedding banquet," Alex answered indifferently.
Terry’s eyes lit up with understanding. "Ah, I see. I knew someone as devoted as you wouldn’t miss today’s event."
"My son offended you recently, so we’re here to apologize," Tom explained. "Simon, come over and apologize to Alex!"
Simon froze momentarily, then reluctantly stepped forward and bowed deeply. "I’m sorry, Alex! Please forgive my rudeness!"
Alex snorted, casting Simon a look of contempt.
Alex had cut all ties with the Hans family, and no amount of flattery would change that.
Tom’s eyes darkened with malice. How dare this kid ignore him!
"My son has apologized. Let’s put this behind us," Tom said.
