Rebirth to take revenge -
Chapter 138: Hit me
Chapter 138: Hit me
This woman always managed to touch the most fragile part of his heart. He had never experienced this kind of emotion before and didn’t know how to control it.
"Wait for me here for a moment. I have to take care of something important, and I’ll be back soon." After leaving the room, Alex walked straight toward the stairs. Claire nodded as she watched his back.
"Okay, I’ll wait here for you."
Alex paused briefly when he heard Claire’s response, then disappeared around the corner. Claire sat down on the hospital bed. It wasn’t far from the ward she had stayed in before, and she hadn’t been sitting long when she heard footsteps outside the door.
Soon, the door to the ward opened. Claire heard the sound and looked up to see who it was. When she saw the person’s face clearly, she looked surprised.
"It’s you?"
Lucy walked in, raising her chin and looking at Claire with a dangerous glint in her eyes.
"I wonder what made Josh so kind as to donate blood to others?" she sneered. "Turns out it’s for you, this sly fox."
With a hint of cruelty in her eyes, Lucy raised her hand to slap Claire. Seeing Lucy’s movements, Claire quickly dodged.
"Miss Lucy, mind your words!" Claire’s voice was sharp with a hint of anger.
Startled by Claire’s defiance, Lucy froze. "Claire, don’t bite the hand that feeds you!" Lucy lowered her voice, warning her. "Hmph! Don’t think you can climb the high branch. Josh will get tired of you sooner or later, and you’ll be kicked out of the Greg family!"
Her eyes were full of jealousy and resentment.
Lucy never imagined that a married woman could still make Josh dream of her. Claire’s heart sank at Lucy’s words.
"Miss Lucy, my affairs are none of your business!"
After speaking, Claire turned her back on Lucy and lay down on the hospital bed. Seeing Claire ignore her only made Lucy angrier.
Claire’s retort felt like a slap in the face, leaving Lucy humiliated.
Grinding her teeth, Lucy glared at Claire lying on the bed, her eyes filled with intense malice. "Claire, do you think you can be proud for much longer?" she seethed, clenching her teeth. Planning her next move, Lucy resolved to report to Josh about Claire’s "attitude."
As she left, she accidentally hit the door frame, sending a sharp pain through her head. She winced.
Hearing the commotion, Claire’s eyes flashed with confusion. "Miss Lucy, please leave. You’re not welcome here!" Her voice was sharp, fueled by anger.
Infuriated by Claire’s command, Lucy’s face contorted with rage. She had never been treated with such disrespect in her life!
"How dare you speak to me like that!" Lucy glared at Claire, her expression dark and ferocious.
Then she suddenly screamed at the top of her lungs, "She hit me! Claire hit me!"
As soon as Lucy finished, the door to the ward swung open, and a group of nurses rushed in, pinning Claire down on the bed. Claire saw what was happening, panic flashing in her eyes. She struggled to free herself, but two doctors held her down firmly.
"Lucy, have you had enough?" Josh walked in with a dark expression, giving Lucy a cold look.
Lucy was startled by Josh’s sudden appearance and began trembling. She had never been yelled at like that before, but she quickly recovered. Pointing at Claire, she exclaimed, "Josh, it’s her! I came to visit her out of kindness, and she actually hit me!"
"What nonsense are you talking about?" Claire’s anger surged, her voice defiant as she shouted at Lucy.
Josh, hearing Claire’s words, looked at her, his eyes filled with a complex expression.
Thinking Josh would side with her, Lucy grew even more arrogant. "Claire, I came today to bring you medicine. I didn’t expect you’d hit me!" She raised her hand, threateningly. "If I don’t teach you a lesson today, I’m not Lucy!"
Just as she swung her fist toward Claire, Josh quickly intervened, grabbing her arm to stop her.
"Lucy, have you lost your mind?" His voice was stern and filled with reproach, leaving Lucy stunned and confused, unable to understand why Josh was defending Claire.
"Josh, what’s so special about her? If you like her, you don’t have to like her this much! You clearly like me!" Lucy’s voice trembled with a mix of anger and sadness.
"Lucy, I’ve already told you, I only feel friendship toward you—nothing more. Please don’t take it the wrong way," Josh said, his tone cold.
"Is it really just friendship?" Lucy’s cheeks flushed, making her look more alluring, though her eyes held a deep sorrow.
Josh shook his head, unwilling to explain further. They had already ended things.
"Fine, just you wait. I’ll make you admit that I’m the one for you," Lucy vowed, struggling to keep her emotions in check.
Josh frowned at her determination. "Lucy, don’t do anything reckless. You’re better than this."
"I know what I’m doing; don’t worry about me." Lucy’s gaze shifted coldly toward Claire, who lay quietly on the hospital bed.
"If I can’t have you, Josh, then she won’t either," Lucy threatened, her voice laced with malice.
"Lucy, if you even think about harming Claire, you’ll regret it," Josh said firmly, his face hardening.
Lucy smirked, unfazed by his warning. "Oh, I’m going to make her suffer. What are you going to do about it, Josh?" She took a step closer, her jealousy flaring like wildfire.
"Who do you think you are, Josh?" she sneered. "You’re just a CEO of the Greg Group. What right do you have to threaten me?" Her voice dripped with scorn as she stepped toward him.
"I’m serious," he said quietly. "If you hurt her, I won’t hold back."
Lucy laughed mockingly and raised her hand to strike Claire. But before she could, Josh grabbed her arm, stopping her in her tracks and throwing her backward with surprising force.
With a loud bang, Lucy crashed to the floor.
Seeing her there, Josh’s expression softened momentarily. "Are you okay, Lucy?" he asked, his tone almost gentle.
Lucy looked up, her face showing a bitter smile as she realized she was nothing but a joke to him. Lowering her eyes to hide the pain, she responded, "Stop pretending, Josh. You clearly have feelings for me. Why would you fall for someone like her?"
"Enough!" Josh snapped, his voice filled with anger. "If you insult Claire again, don’t blame me for being harsh."
Lucy’s face twisted with rage at his words. What was it about Claire that made him care so much? Gritting her teeth, she hissed, "Josh, I’m telling you, you’ll regret this."
With that, Lucy stormed out of the hospital, afraid that if she stayed, she’d lash out at Claire. Once she left, Josh turned back to Claire, who looked frail and sickly, his face full of guilt.
"Claire, I’m sorry..." he began, but Claire gently shook her head, her eyes filling with tears.
"It’s okay. I’m used to it," she whispered with a faint, bitter smile. Then, with a sigh, she closed her eyes. "I’m going to rest now."
Josh looked at her exhausted face, feeling a deep ache in his heart. "Alright, sleep well. I’ll stay here with you," he said softly, sitting by her side.
Meanwhile, after returning home, Lucy collapsed onto her sofa, tears streaming down her face. She felt broken.
"Why do all men betray me?" she cried. The more she thought about Claire, the deeper her resentment grew. "I’ll find a way to make her disappear," she muttered, wiping her tears, her eyes blazing with hatred.
Lucy began to scheme, her mind churning with malicious ideas.
"Heh, Claire, you’re done for," she sneered, her eyes flashing with satisfaction.
Lucy’s smile turned sinister as she licked her lips. If someone dared to steal her man, she’d make sure they felt real pain.
She picked up a wine glass from the coffee table and downed it in one gulp. Drinking was her way to numb the pain. She hoped it would drown out her bitter memories.
As she continued drinking, Lucy soon became tipsy, her face flushed. Her usual elegance gave way to wildness.
"Josh, why don’t you want me? Why her? Do you know how much pain you’re causing me?" she sobbed, clutching the empty wine glass in her hand.
The glass she was holding suddenly slipped from her hand, shattering on the floor. Sharp shards cut into her palm, and blood began to trickle down.
"Ah, it hurts," Lucy cried, clutching her bleeding hand, her face twisting in pain. She wanted to get up and grab a bandage but found herself too drained to move. Instead, she lay back on the sofa, frowning.
The ache in her heart was far more painful than the sting in her hand.
She had hoped to channel all her resentment and hurt onto Claire, but Josh had refused to help her.
"Josh, how could you do this to me..." she muttered softly to herself.
Suddenly, hurried footsteps approached from the doorway.
"Lucy, what’s wrong? What happened to you?" her mother called as she entered, her face filled with worry. Seeing Lucy’s disheveled state, she hurried over and gathered her daughter into her arms, holding her tightly. "My dear daughter, what happened?"
Lucy finally let out a shaky breath as she recognized her mother’s comforting presence, feeling a small bit of tension leave her heart.
