Rebirth to take revenge
Chapter 113: Old man

Chapter 113: Old man

Anna shook her head and forced a smile. She didn’t want Sebastian to worry about her, especially not now.

"Dad, don’t worry. I’m fine" she whispered.

Sebastian’s eyes were red as he looked at his daughter, then at the driver.

"Let my daughter go! If you need anything, come to me!"

Alex’s subordinates sneered, "Your life means nothing to me! Don’t worry, I won’t kill you, but I’ll make sure you always remember the price of offending Mr. Miler!"

Sebastian bit his lip and didn’t speak. Anna’s heart surged with resentment. These men were beasts. At that moment, the noise inside the van caught Claire’s attention. She walked out of the Miller estate, looked at Alex standing outside the car, and asked with a puzzled

expression, "What’s going on? Why is there so much noise?"

"Leander is taking a nap!" Hearing this, Alex and everyone in the van fell silent. Alex’s expression turned serious as he knocked on the car window.

"Tell them to shut up," he ordered.

"Yes, sir!"

The subordinates in the van quickly moved to gag Sebastian and Anna. However, when Anna heard Claire’s voice, her expression turned desperate. She had returned to the Miller family estate?! No, she had to stop Claire from revealing the truth!

Summoning strength from deep within, Anna shoved the men restraining her aside, opened the van door, and rushed out. She shouted desperately, "Claire, stop!"

Claire frowned and looked at Anna, confusion flashing in her eyes. Why you?"

Her eyes shifted to Alex, then to Anna, and finally settled on Anna’s red, swollen cheeks. She was startled and asked, "Did you hit her?"

Alex’s face darkened slightly as he glanced at his subordinates with displeasure. The subordinate quickly nodded and bowed. "I’m sorry, ma’am. I was too harsh."

Claire snorted coldly, turning her gaze to Anna. Her voice was sharp as she asked, "What happened?"

Tears welled up in Anna’s eyes. "Claire, don’t pretend you don’t know! You must’ve planned this. You made Alex treat me like this, didn’t you?" she accused, her voice shaking. "I know Alex is kind, and he’d never hurt me unless you, that vixen, were working behind the scenes!"

"You just want to steal Alex from me! What do you think makes you so special? Let me tell you, Alex is mine! No one can take him away!"

Alex’s expression grew colder, his eyes glinting with an icy edge.

But Anna kept going. "Alex, don’t listen to her! She’s lying! I grew up with you. You should trust me! I’ve never lied to you, Alex. Do you even know how much I love you? I’ve always loved you!"

"From the moment I first saw you, I was drawn to you. Ever since childhood, you’ve been the love of my dreams. I swore to myself that one day I would marry you. I promised myself that I’d be your bride when I grew up!"

"Do you know? Every night, I dream of being with you..."

The more Anna spoke, the more emotional she became, and soon tears streamed down her face. Watching her, Claire felt her stomach churn in disgust. She turned on her heel and walked away, exasperated.

Alex quickly followed her, signaling to his subordinates with a glance before stepping inside the Smith family’s house after her. The sound of Anna’s whimpering faded into the background.

Claire glanced back at Alex, who had followed her inside. She sighed. "You’re such a fool."

"Why did you arrest them? You’re just scaring them off! Don’t you realize their target isn’t me, but you? You’ve captured them now, but Mariah might be in contact with you soon..."

"Cole?" Alex interrupted, "Is that right?"

Claire frowned, surprised. "How did you know?"

Alex’s lips curved into a small smile. "You’re overthinking it. In this life, only you, Claire, could make me fall for someone twice..."

As Alex spoke, a soft, gentle smile appeared in his eyes. He stepped closer to Claire, reached out, and tousled her hair affectionately. "Silly girl, if you ever face any trouble, come to me. I promise, I’ll protect you for the rest of your life."

Claire stood there, stunned, and slowly raised her head to meet his gaze.

Alex smiled warmly. "I know what you’re afraid of, and I’ll help you."

"And don’t worry, I’ll make you the happiest woman in the world."

Claire’s face flushed as her heart began to race.

"The past three years have been full of regrets," Alex admitted. "But from now on, I’ll make up for them. Little by little."

"So don’t worry about anyone. Don’t be afraid of anything. I’ll do whatever it takes to make up for the time I owe you."

"Claire, trust me, okay?"

Claire’s heart pounded in her chest. The man standing before her was handsome and composed, his deep eyes filled with love and compassion. His voice was tender and sincere, as though he were addressing the most precious person in his life.

A warm feeling surged through Claire, and her eyes stung with unshed tears. She nodded and whispered, "Okay."

She was ready to believe him—believe in everything he said and trust in his love for her.

"Claire, I’m sorry for all the suffering you’ve endured these past three years," Alex said softly, his eyes brimming with empathy as he took her hand.

Claire smiled, shaking her head. "It wasn’t that bad."

"I’m happy now." A look of sadness flashed across Alex’s eyes. Seeing Claire’s eyes, his heart ached unbearably. How did he survive these past three years? In his gaze, there was too much sadness, an unspeakable sorrow, as if a mountain was pressing down on his chest, nearly crushing him.

Claire gently held Alex’s hand, giving him strength. Alex squeezed her hand back, rubbing it gently. Claire suddenly thought of something, raised her head, and asked, "By the way, why did you arrest Anna and Sebastian?"

Alex replied, "They wanted to harm you. Rather than arresting Mariah directly, it’s better to take her family—her husband and children. That way, she won’t cause trouble again."

"And as for Sebastian..." Alex paused, looking at Claire, and said, "You don’t need to worry about him. He has nothing to do with you, and I don’t plan to do anything to him."

Claire blinked and asked, "You’re not going to kill him?"

Alex shook his head. "No. I’ve sent someone to handle him. I don’t want to put you in any danger."

"You don’t have to worry about me," Claire smiled and shook her head. "You know I have so many bodyguards around me. I’ll be fine."

Alex’s expression became more complex as he said, "I’m your husband. It’s my responsibility to keep you safe."

"Okay, okay, I’m not that fragile," Claire replied with a lighthearted tone.

"I know," Alex responded.

Claire then asked, "So, what are you going to do with Anna?"

"Of course, she’ll be locked up for now," Alex said with a meaningful smile. "That way, when Mariah shows up, we can resolve everything smoothly."

"Don’t worry. Mariah won’t dare do anything to Anna. Their main target is you. But don’t let your guard down. These people are desperate and ruthless. You not only need to watch out for their revenge, but you also need to stay wary of Mariah. She’s clever and cunning."

"I understand," Claire nodded obediently.

"Any news from Cole?" Claire asked.

Alex shook his head. "Not yet. I think he’s still hesitating. After all, we don’t fully control the situation. If he acts rashly, it could end badly for him and be a disadvantage for us. But since he’s already made a move, he won’t back down. I won’t let him get away with it."

Claire nodded. "Last time, I escaped from his hands and messed up his plans. If Cole makes a comeback, he won’t strike unless he’s fully prepared. When that time comes, it’ll be even more difficult for us."

"But don’t worry, I’ve already prepared for this," Claire added with a smile. "I’ve had someone investigate Cole’s whereabouts over the years. Everything he’s done is recorded in these documents."

Claire pointed to the files on the tea table. "What I read earlier was only part of it."

Alex raised his eyebrows. "Oh, Leander has already seen it."

Claire was startled, her eyes wide with disbelief. Then, her mouth twitched, and she sat down on the chair next to the coffee table, clearly upset. "Leander, that little brat! I raised him for nothing!"

Claire was feeling extremely frustrated. She thought her plan was flawless, but her clever son had figured it out. It was so embarrassing!

Seeing her reaction, Alex couldn’t help but laugh. "I think you should be grateful to have such a smart, caring, and sensible son. Otherwise, how would we have gotten together so quickly?"

Claire hummed twice, turning her face away. "Shameless. I don’t want to hear it from you, old man."

"Old man?"

Alex was taken aback for a moment, and his eyes instantly became resentful:

" Claire, are you despising me?"

Claire glared at Alex and said, "So what?"

"Let me tell you, Alex, although you are more handsome, you are already old."
