Chapter 243 - Chapter 243 Chapter 243 The Eight Old Women
Chapter 243: Chapter 243 The Eight Old Women Chapter 243: Chapter 243 The Eight Old Women Lady Li climbed into the ox cart, high-spirited and radiant, and once she had settled down and arranged her belongings, she let out a sigh of relief. She then began to look around for a gossipy woman to chat with, after all, it was going to be a two-hour trip back to Mo Family Village. Sitting idly would be a hard way to pass the time.
But as she looked up, she saw Xuexue and Big Bull sitting opposite her, giving her a cold stare.
Instantly, her face changed color, and she quickly lowered her head, not daring to make a sound.
Inside, she couldn’t help but wail about her awful luck. It was already bad enough to make a trip to town and then to run into these two Plague Gods.
She had been mercilessly thrown from the ox cart by this fool, resulting in a broken foot. It still ached when she walked, and the Doctor had said it might be a lasting effect of that incident. She harbored a deep resentment towards Big Bull and Xuexue, but feeling helpless against the formidable Big Bull, she could only resort to underhanded tactics behind his back.
Xuexue glanced at Lady Li and said with a smiling face, “Big Bull.”
Big Bull turned his head, “My lady, what is it?”
“A few days ago in the village, I heard people spreading rumors saying that we’re a pair of thieves and prostitutes, corrupting the morals of Mo Family Village, and that neither of us is decent.”
Upon hearing this, Big Bull became angry and bellowed, “Which gossipy woman is making up these rumors? If I find out who it is, I definitely won’t let her off the hook.”
Upon hearing this, Lady Li felt a chill run through her body, and she couldn’t help but shiver uncontrollably.
Because of her deep hatred for Xuexue and Big Bull, and wanting revenge but not being a match for Big Bull, she had taken to spreading rumors behind their backs in an effort to ruin their reputation. Little did she expect that the rumors would reach Xuexue’s ears.
Lady Li’s head hung so low it was almost buried in her skirt.
And yet, she heard Xuexue say, “I know who it is.”
At that moment, dying seemed like a desirable escape for Lady Li. She thought, why did she even bother taking the ox cart when she could have been walking just fine? Instead, she ran straight into these two disasters like walking into a trap.
“My lady, please tell me quickly, who is the one spouting nonsense?”
“This person,” Xuexue paused for a moment, her eyes briefly scanning Lady Li, and then continued, “is also in this cart.”
The other three women in the cart, hearing Xuexue say this, hurriedly disassociated themselves, pointing at Lady Li and claiming, “Xuexue, Big Bull, this incident has nothing to do with us. It’s all her spreading bad words about you in the village. Actually, you two are betrothed, and it’s normal for you to be seen together. She really shouldn’t be talking about you like that.”
“Exactly, some people who are not clear about the facts are deceived by her and join in the gossip, and now, the whole Mo Family Village is buzzing with it, getting more ridiculous by the day.”
Barely exposed by the others, Lady Li was infuriated, and she suddenly looked up and retorted, “What nonsense are you all talking about?”
“How are we talking nonsense? The whole village knows you’re the mastermind behind these rumors!” the women immediately countered.
“You’re being too bullying…” Lady Li was so angry she trembled all over.
“It was clearly your own doing, but you dare not admit it and blame us instead,” the women were even more upset, indignantly retorting. It was her own loose tongue that had stirred the trouble, and now she tried to drag them into it. No way!
Seeing Lady Li attacked from all sides, Xuexue was quite pleased and turned to Big Bull, “Now, you should know who’s been spreading rumors.”
Big Bull’s handsome eyes glared at Lady Li with what seemed like a simple-minded tone, but to Lady Li, it sounded sinister, “You again? I suppose I didn’t throw you far enough last time, did I?”
“Hehe! Brother Niu, those gossipy women have always had a grudge against me, they’re framing me on purpose. I’m truly not the one who started the rumors,” pleaded Lady Li, her smile uglier than crying, trying desperately to deceive this fool.
