Chapter 1115: Escape

Chapter 1115: Chapter 1115: Escape

The dwarf listened, and a creepy smile appeared at the corner of his mouth: "Excellent, let’s see where this dead girl can hide now." With that, he loosened his grip and let the passerby go.

The passerby fled in panic, rolling and crawling away.

"

Zhang San: "Little brother, who are you looking for?"

The dwarf: "An acquaintance."

Zhang San: "You even have acquaintances in the Capital? That’s great! Since you have acquaintances, we won’t be completely alone here." Zhang San was delighted at hearing this. After all, his enemy was a high-ranking official in the Imperial court. If anything went wrong, there would at least be a place to hide.

"Hehehe...!"

The dwarf released an ear-piercing laugh and said nothing more, turning to leave.

"Hey, hey, hey! Little brother, wait for me!"

Zhang San quickly caught up and asked, "Where are we headed?"

"Let’s find an inn to stay at first."

"Didn’t you say you had an acquaintance? Staying at an inn is so inconvenient. What if something happens and the Government Soldiers come searching?"

Hearing this, the dwarf turned back and glared at him fiercely, speaking in a menacing tone: "So are you staying or not?"

The dwarf was angry, and Zhang San dared not speak. Despite his small and grotesque appearance, the dwarf was known to kill when he lost his temper. Zhang San had seen it with his own eyes. Quickly nodding, he said, "I’ll stay! I’ll stay, isn’t that fine?"

"Then stop wasting your breath. If you keep babbling, we’ll go our separate ways."

"Yes, yes, I won’t anymore. Little brother, your criticism is indeed valid."

Zhang San lacked strong martial arts skills and was in a vulnerable position. He didn’t dare face the Prime Minister alone to seek vengeance; that would undoubtedly be suicidal. Yet he couldn’t give up either—his entire family had been destroyed by the Prime Minister, and he couldn’t swallow the anger. On top of it all, his wife had now become the Prime Minister’s Third Auntie.

Along the way, Zhang San noticed that there were wanted posters everywhere, featuring the dwarf and his portrait, offering a reward of five hundred taels of silver for their capture. The sight made Zhang San’s blood run cold. Fortunately, the portrait depicted the dwarf with a large beard, which he had since shaved off, making him unrecognizable.

"Little brother! Don’t you think it’s too risky for us to stay at an inn like this?" Zhang San asked nervously.

"You don’t want to stay? That’s fine."

"Really?" Zhang San rejoiced, assuming the dwarf had reconsidered and would take them to stay at his acquaintance’s home instead.

Unexpectedly, the dwarf’s next words made all his hopes crumble.

The dwarf: "Of course, just sleep on the street instead."

Sleep on the street?

What kind of joke was that?

Wouldn’t that be even more dangerous than staying at an inn?

True, inns provided some form of cover; even if Government Soldiers came searching, there might still be time to escape. Sleeping on the street, however, offered no protection, leaving them completely exposed and vulnerable to enemies without any awareness of it. The potential danger would be immense.

Upon hearing this, Zhang San dared not object anymore. He was genuinely afraid that the dwarf, in a fit of anger, might abandon him on the street. Reluctantly, he followed behind the dwarf, planning to find an inn to stay at first.

Xinglong Inn.

"Shopkeeper, prepare two main rooms for us!" The moment they entered the inn, the dwarf shouted, his voice sharp as a duck’s squawk.

The Shopkeeper had been dozing off on the desk and, startled by the shout, groggily raised his head. Rubbing his eyes, he asked, "Who’s calling this old man?"

The dwarf’s appearance was far too conspicuous.

Fearing the dwarf might be recognized, Zhang San swiftly grabbed him and pulled him behind, plastering a smile on his face as he addressed the Shopkeeper: "Shopkeeper, we’d like two main rooms."

"Oh! It’s you two! We do have main rooms available, but they’re a bit pricey," said the Shopkeeper, who was an old man of over sixty with white hair.

The dwarf stepped forward to speak but was immediately pulled back by Zhang San, who whispered to him: "Little brother, this is a critical moment—don’t act recklessly. Let me handle this. If they find out we’re fugitives, we’ll both be in big trouble."
