Chapter 1114: Chapter 1114: Stranded in the Streets
The passerby was just about to lose his temper when he suddenly felt a chill on his neck. Looking down, he saw a dagger glinting coldly against his skin, making him shiver uncontrollably. "You... What do you want?" he stammered in fear.
"I’m asking you—whose mansion does the carriage that just passed belong to?"
"Wh-which one?" The passerby looked pitiful, his face contorted with grievance. He was leisurely strolling the streets, joyful one moment, and the next, calamity had struck from nowhere.
"The luxurious carriage that just went by."
"I...I don’t know! I was just... just walking around, that’s all! P-please, Master, spare me! We... we don’t know each other, and there’s no grudge between us!" The passerby felt utterly wronged but couldn’t voice his frustration—he was just out for a walk and somehow ended up being accosted. It was beyond unlucky.
The dwarf’s cruelty was something Zhang San had witnessed firsthand. Afraid the dwarf might strike again, Zhang San hurriedly tried to mediate, "Brother, this man probably doesn’t know. If he knew, he would’ve said it by now. Leave it be, let’s ask someone else."
The dwarf glanced coldly at the pale-faced passerby. Only then did he reluctantly withdraw his dagger. He released him, uttering a single ominous word: "Scram!"
The passerby, as if granted a pardon, scrambled away on all fours, fleeing from what to him was a demon-like figure.
Just a moment ago, when the wind brushed past the carriage, the dwarf had clearly seen Xuexue sitting inside.
However, the carriage was moving too fast. By the time he reacted, it had already disappeared into the distance.
Noticing the sullen look on the dwarf’s face, Zhang San thought for a moment and cautiously suggested, "Brother, how about I go ask around for you, see whose mansion that carriage belongs to?"
If the dwarf didn’t speak and simply blended into the crowd, no one would pay much attention. But the moment he interacted with others, his hideous face would be exposed to them.
At that point, if anyone said something unpleasant, the dwarf would likely lose control all over again.
Considering this, Zhang San decided to take it upon himself to help the dwarf resolve the issue.
"Fine, you go quickly. I’ll wait for you over there." The dwarf, wearing a straw hat and dressed in coarse clothes, stood among the crowd. From behind, he looked no different from an ordinary farm boy.
"Alright!" Zhang San agreed and strode toward a nearby shop to inquire on the dwarf’s behalf.
Standing still, the dwarf’s mind was consumed by the image of Xuexue sitting in that carriage earlier. Bitter anger surged in his heart: That damn girl had wronged him so terribly! If his Master hadn’t saved him, he would’ve starved to death on the streets of Shuangxing County by now. If he caught her, he wouldn’t let her off easily—she’d wish she were dead.
The days after Xuexue had crippled him were the darkest of his life. It was the second time he experienced what it truly meant to cry for help to no avail.
The first was when, as a child, he’d roamed the streets after losing his family, deathly ill and hopeless.
The second was thanks to Xuexue.
That damned girl was ruthless beyond measure—not only did she cripple his martial arts, but she also looted all his gold and silver treasures, leaving him like a beggar crawling on the streets of Shuangxing County, subject to the mockery and ridicule of passersby.
Recalling that humiliating ordeal, the dwarf clenched his fists tighter and tighter, seething with hatred. He wanted nothing more than to capture that wretched girl this instant and choke the life out of her to vent his bottled-up resentment.
After a while, Zhang San returned.
"Brother, I found out. That luxurious carriage just now—they said it belongs to the General’s Mansion."
