Rebirth: Pampered by the Lord
Chapter 1103: The Vault

Chapter 1103: Chapter 1103: The Vault

"So many gold bars, how much silver is this worth?" Zhang San grabbed a handful of gold bars and held them tightly in his arms.

"Who cares how much? Anyway, it’s enough to last us a lifetime."

The two laughed for a while before returning to reality. At this moment, they still had no idea how to get out, and the entire room of gold and silver treasures was, to them, like useless junk.

As the saying goes, "Man dies for wealth; bird dies for food."

Though they couldn’t find an exit for now, and their future was uncertain, they took off their clothes, stuffed a pile of gold bars into bundles strapped to their bodies, in case they escaped—then they’d still have silver to spend.

After all, the Capital, though glamorous, was a place of endless indulgence. Without silver, one could hardly take a single step forward.

The Prime Minister’s Mansion.

The Prime Minister, dressed in a short martial arts outfit, wielded the Azure Dragon Sword in his hand, practicing in the courtyard. Despite the bitter cold, sweat droplets still formed on his forehead. He had just paused his movements.

The servant boy, perceptive as always, immediately brought him a towel.

"Master, please wipe your sweat!"

"Hmm!"

The Prime Minister took the towel and wiped his sweat.

The servant boy then handed him a cup of hot tea.

The Prime Minister accepted it, gulped it down in one go, wiped his mouth with a handkerchief, and prepared to continue practicing martial arts.

At this moment, two guards came rushing over, shouting as they ran, "Master, Master, something terrible has happened! Something terrible!"

"So clumsy and chaotic, what’s going on?"

In grand households, the most annoying type of servant was those who lacked composure. They preferred servants who handled situations calmly, so as not to disgrace their Master in front of others.

The two guards were miserable; it wasn’t as if they wanted to be so panicked, right?

But... the killer of the Prime Minister’s son had mysteriously disappeared from the dungeon. Could they possibly not be anxious?

"Master, the... the... dwarf...!"

The two guards had run too fast and were flustered. Gasping for air, they stuttered out incomplete phrases.

This made the Prime Minister furious, nearly losing patience: "What exactly are you trying to say?"

Pressed by the Prime Minister, one of the guards finally caught his breath: "The... the dwarf escaped!"

"Nonsense! The dungeon of this mansion is as impregnable as a fortress. How could he escape?" The Prime Minister expressed disbelief.

The two guards nearly broke down in tears: "It’s true. If Master doesn’t believe us, you can personally go to the dungeon and see. The dwarf truly vanished into thin air. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have been in such a hurry to report to you, Master."

"Such wickedness?"

The Prime Minister tossed the Azure Dragon Sword to the nearby servant boy: "Let’s go and take a look. I refuse to believe that little runt escaped. Even if he flees to the Ends of the Earth, I will catch him and offer his life as sacrifice for my son’s soul."

With that, he strode forward.

The servants quickly followed behind.

The Dungeon.

As soon as they entered, the overwhelming stench of rot assaulted their noses.

Not only the Prime Minister but also the servants trailing behind him hastily covered their noses with their hands.

The dungeon in the Prime Minister’s residence was designed to be highly inconspicuous, its entrance hidden within a rockery in the garden. Outsiders would never suspect anything amiss. Only the Prime Minister and his closest confidants knew the secret.

Not even his concubine or madam had any clue.

This showcased how deeply scheming the Prime Minister was—he couldn’t even fully trust those beside his pillow, let alone trust his closest aides. Consequently, confidants aware of this secret had no choice but to serve him their entire lives. Should they dare leave, they’d be silenced forever.

The two guards leading the way, utterly panicked by the dwarf’s mysterious disappearance, seemed to be the only ones who completely overlooked the atrocious stench.
