Chapter 1542: Chapter 1514: Is This Good or Bad News?
"Kiara!" Mario Yuno rushed over.
The last thought that flashed through Kiara’s mind before she passed out was, "Oh no, is the jealousy about to explode again..."
She certainly hadn’t been throwing herself into the arms of the fox cat...
When Kiara woke up again, she found herself lying in a hospital bed with both the fox cat and Mario Yuno there, apparently chatting.
"Have you encountered any trouble with the Workshop over there?" Mario Yuno asked.
"No issues, everything’s going smoothly. The bodyguard you found is quite good; he has blocked several attacks for us this month," the fox cat answered.
"That’s a company run by a friend of mine from overseas training days; I know his capabilities. Has JR been causing trouble all month?"
"Yeah, but they haven’t caused us any real damage."
"Looks like they still have too much free time... Okay, I will give my friend a call later, find something for JR to get busy with, so you guys can have an easier time next month."
The conversation between the two men reached Kiara’s ears, and her first reaction was to pinch herself.
It hurt...
So, it’s not a dream?
What’s going on, the cat and dog living in harmony? Is Mars about to collide with Earth?
Camden had personally witnessed her falling into the arms of the fox cat, and according to his usual logic, not having a huge fight with the fox cat would be totally out of character for the King of Asian Vinegar.
Not only were they not fighting, but they were actually enjoying their conversation?!
Mario Yuno had his back to Kiara, so his facial expression was unseen, but she could tell from his voice that he was in a rather good mood.
"I haven’t congratulated you yet," said the fox cat to Mario Yuno.
Mario Yuno laughed, "A pleasant surprise. Please take good care of the Workshop for me; my wife definitely won’t be able to handle everything for the next ten months."
"Of course."
"What are you two talking about?" Kiara sat up.
"Wife!" Camden sprang over to help her up, causing Kiara to be utterly confused.
"What for?" she wasn’t made of glass, so what was the big deal?
"There’s something I need to tell you... it might be good news, but it’s also possible you might have a hard time accepting it. Honestly, when I first found out, I was also filled with mixed feelings..."
The typically straightforward Mario Yuno was now awkwardly hesitating, not sure how to break the news to her.
"You’re pregnant, nearly 4 weeks along," said the fox cat, speaking for Camden.
Kiara was stunned, repeating the fox cat’s words after a few seconds in a daze.
"I’m... pregnant?!"
She had just been discussing this with the Young Aunt during the day, and now it had actually come true so quickly?
"Yes, it seems it happened right after we got back. I’ve asked your father-in-law; he said that the medicine should have worn off by then and there wouldn’t be any impact on the baby. We will also closely monitor the baby’s indicators... it’s just that..." Mario Yuno looked at Kiara nervously; she was still reeling from the shock.
Seeing this, the fox cat stood up, "I’ll leave you two to talk, I’m heading out."
"That ledger—" Kiara, still bewildered, asked.
"Your military dog has been taking care of it for you. I’ll come to you for any major issues, but I’ve managed all the little things on your behalf."
Oh, you must be exhausted. Kiara watched the Fox Cat leave and then touched her belly, still unable to fully grasp what was happening.
Everything she had just said was a reflex; in fact, she didn’t really know how to express her feelings at that moment.
"I... I’m really pregnant?"
"Yes. The doctor examined you and said your fainting might be due to recent overexertion. As it’s still early in the pregnancy, not much else can be determined at the moment, but there shouldn’t be any major issues. Your other vitals are quite good."
"Oh." Kiara continued to touch her belly, her expression unreadable—neither clearly happy nor worried. A few seconds later, she finally came to terms with the fact that she was expecting another baby and looked up to see Mario Yuno’s concerned face.
"Kiara, do you... not really want a second child?" Mario asked.
"Me? Why would you think that? Isn’t it you who doesn’t want one?"
Wait, have the two of them misunderstood something?
"I do want one." Mario had also been slow to react when the doctor informed him that his wife was pregnant again, but eventually, he was overjoyed.
Although he was already a father, this happy news still made his heart sing with joy, and for once, the sight of the Fox Cat didn’t annoy him.
"Then why did you say ’don’t have it’ when I mentioned wanting a second child before?" Kiara still remembered his initial reaction—he had adamantly refused when she brought up having a second child.
"I was worried about your health before... But I just asked the doctor, he said you had a smooth delivery the first time. Ideally, one should wait a year before having another child, but you’ve recovered very well, so there shouldn’t be any big problems. The doctor also mentioned that sometimes having a second child could be easier than the first. You may not experience the same pain as you did with Wendy."
Uh, so he didn’t object to having a second child; he was just worried about her?
Kiara hadn’t realized that, she thought Mario didn’t want another child because taking care of one was already exhausting.
"Kiara, if you don’t want the baby, I’ll..." Mario spoke cautiously, watching her reaction closely because he felt that any "technical issues" were his fault.
"You’ll what?" Kiara asked him.
"I’ll—" He actually wished he could bear the child for her.
But, lacking that capability and unable to spare her the hardship, Mario’s initial happiness sank once more as he ran his hands through his hair.
"If you don’t want it, then we’ll just get rid of it."
"Get rid of what?" Mother Yuno heard this as she entered and her eyebrows shot up.
"Kiara! Aren’t you being a bit too willful?!" Kiara’s mother also came in, her reaction even stronger than Mother Yuno’s.
Seeing these two elder bosses arriving, Kiara felt a headache coming on. She gave Mario Yuno a blaming look. How could his tongue be so long, she thought, spreading the news all over town so soon?
Mario was really wronged.
He went to pick up Kiara to have dinner with Mum, and when Kiara fainted, he took her to the hospital. Mother Yuno, not hearing from them, called to inquire, rushed over when she learned her daughter-in-law had fainted, and directly asked the doctor about Kiara’s condition. Overjoyed to hear about the pregnancy, she had barely celebrated for a few seconds before hearing that these unreliable parents were "plotting an abortion," which infuriated the two little old ladies.
One went for her own son while the other confronted her daughter.
Mother Yuno approached and scolded Mario, "How can you be so capable? Huh? Daring to do something but not brave enough to take responsibility? Why abort a perfectly fine child?"
Mario, feeling unjustly treated, couldn’t even talk back as Kiara’s mother didn’t spare Kiara either. Since Kiara’s body was special, her mother couldn’t poke her forehead as she usually might, but verbal bombardment was definitely on the agenda.
"Kiara! You know it’s sinful to abort a child, don’t you? This child came to you by fate, and if the baby is healthy and has no disabilities, how can you just decide you don’t want it? If you give birth and don’t want to take care of it, just throw it to me, I’ll raise it. But if you dare to abandon this child, I won’t let you off lightly!"
While Mario was facing domestic aggression from his own mother, he didn’t forget to take the blame for his wife. Seeing his wife getting scolded by her mother-in-law, he quickly intervened.
"Mum, don’t be mad at Kiara, it’s all my fault, I—"
"Youngest Brother of Yuno Family! You scoundrel!" Mother Yuno exploded.
