Chapter 105: Like she’s some rare gem

When they entered the building, they were greeted immediately by a team of assistants who escorted them to the top-floor conference room. The skincare brand clearly operated with luxury and exclusivity—everything from the decor to the staff’s demeanor screamed high-end.

As they stepped inside, the executives were already seated, waiting.

A middle-aged man in a tailored suit stood up first, offering a professional smile.

"Miss Y.L., welcome," he greeted. "We’ve been looking forward to this meeting."

Lixue extended a polite hand. "Likewise. I appreciate the opportunity."

They exchanged brief pleasantries before taking their seats. Xu Qian positioned herself slightly behind Lixue, ready to take notes, while Shi Haoyue leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, watching everything with a sharp gaze.

The executives wasted no time getting to business.

"We’re launching our most exclusive skincare line yet—designed for high-status individuals who value both quality and refinement," the lead executive explained. "We’ve considered several ambassadors, but after reviewing your image and rising influence, we believe you’d be the perfect face for this campaign."

Lixue kept her expression neutral as she flipped through the campaign proposal they handed her. Luxurious, sophisticated, and tailored toward an elite market—it was exactly the kind of brand association she needed.

"And what would this entail?" she asked, glancing up.

"An exclusive, long-term partnership," the executive said. "You wouldn’t just be the face of a single campaign; you’d be integrated into the brand itself—events, luxury gatherings, VIP endorsements. We want Y.L. to be synonymous with elegance and prestige."

Lixue noted the subtle wording. Long-term. They weren’t just looking for an ambassador—they wanted ownership over her image.

Shi Haoyue spoke up, his tone measured. "While the offer is generous, exclusivity always comes with conditions. What are the restrictions on Lixue’s other endorsements?"

The executive gave a practiced smile. "Naturally, we’d ask that she refrain from working with any competing beauty or skincare brands during the duration of the contract."

"And how long is that duration?" Lixue asked.

"Three years, with an option to extend based on mutual agreement."

Lixue leaned back slightly. "That’s quite the commitment."

"We believe in long-term partnerships," the executive countered. "And with your current trajectory, this would be mutually beneficial. Your image aligns perfectly with our vision, and we’re prepared to make it worth your while."

Xu Qian discreetly passed a document to Lixue—key contract points she had been reviewing while they spoke. Lixue took a quick glance. The compensation was generous, and the exposure this deal would provide was significant.

But exclusivity for three years was a heavy restriction.

Lixue exchanged a glance with Shi Haoyue, who gave a small, almost imperceptible nod. He knew what she was thinking.

"Two years," Lixue finally said, closing the folder. "With a renewal clause based on performance metrics. If I’m bringing in the numbers, we renegotiate under better terms."

The executives hesitated, clearly not expecting her to push back so directly.

Shi Haoyue leaned forward, smirking slightly. "Y.L. isn’t just any ambassador. If you want her, flexibility is key."

The executives exchanged glances, whispering among themselves before the lead executive finally nodded. "We can discuss adjusting the terms."

"Good" Lixue said smoothly. "Then let’s move forward."

The tension eased slightly as they shifted into further negotiations, refining the details. By the time they concluded, the terms were significantly more favorable to Lixue—allowing her the flexibility she needed while securing a powerful brand association.

As they exited the meeting room, Shi Haoyue smirked. "Not bad. You just shaved a year off their contract while keeping all the benefits."

Lixue smirked back. "They wanted prestige. I just made sure they paid the right price for it."

Xu Qian adjusted her clipboard, her admiration barely concealed. "That was impressive, Miss Lixue. I learnt alot from this meeting."

Lixue simply adjusted her blazer, her expression calm. "Let’s see what’s next."

Shi Haoyue glanced at his watch. "No rest for you yet. We’re heading straight to your next meeting—fashion endorsement negotiations. Think you can handle another round?"

Lixue gave him a dry look. "You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?"

Shi Haoyue chuckled. "Immensely."

With that, they stepped into the car, heading toward their next destination.

In the sitting room of the Yu estate, the atmosphere was thick with tension, though none of it was openly acknowledged. Qin Sayou sat gracefully beside Yu Jia, her expression one of carefully measured sorrow. Yu Jia, on the other hand, had perfected the art of delicate distress—her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, her lips quivering slightly as she spoke.

"Grandfather, I never thought things would turn out like this," she said in a soft, wounded voice. "Lixue... she planned this all along, didn’t she? To take my place?"

Across from them, Yu Guangshan, remained silent, his sharp, discerning gaze trained on his granddaughter. He was an old fox—one who had seen far too many schemes to be easily fooled. Yet, he allowed them to speak, observing them rather than reacting.

Qin Sayou sighed, reaching out to gently pat Yu Jia’s hand as though offering comfort. "Jiajia, don’t cry," she murmured, though her own voice carried a note of quiet grievance. "We always treated Lixue well, didn’t we? And yet, the moment she got the chance, she threw herself into the limelight, snatching away all the opportunities that were meant for you."

Yu Jia bit her lip, lowering her gaze. "I thought she wanted nothing to do with the industry... but now she’s rising so fast, and everyone’s looking at her like she’s some rare gem. She never even showed interest before, yet suddenly she’s a sensation..."

Yu Guangshan finally spoke, his voice steady and measured. "What exactly are you suggesting?"

Yu Jia quickly glanced at Qin Sayou before shaking her head. "I... I don’t know. Maybe she always resented me. Maybe she hated that I was the one in the spotlight while she was—" She cut herself off, as though she had said too much.

Qin Sayou picked up where she left off, her tone filled with quiet understanding. "Lixue has always been independent, and I admired that about her. But perhaps we underestimated how much she desired to step out of the shadows."

Yu Guangshan tapped his fingers against the armrest of his chair, his gaze unreadable. "Are you telling me that a girl who has never shown ambition for fame has suddenly decided to go against the entertainment industry’s biggest names—and is succeeding?" He let out a dry chuckle. "If that’s true, then she’s far more capable than any of you gave her credit for."

"..!!!"

Yu Jia’s breath hitched slightly, but she quickly bowed her head in apparent sadness.

"Grandfather... I only ever wanted us to be a family. I never thought she’d—" She broke off, pressing a hand to her chest as if overwhelmed.

Qin Sayou sighed, shaking her head. "Father-in-law, we only bring this up because we are worried about the family’s name.

Lixue may not have publicly claimed us, but people are already drawing connections. What happens when the truth comes out? What will people say about the Yu family when they realize we have an estranged daughter rising in the industry, gaining influence in ways we don’t understand?"

Yu Guangshan remained silent for a long moment, his sharp mind working behind his aged eyes. He was no fool—he knew Qin Sayou and Yu Jia weren’t as innocent as they pretended to be. But he also knew that Lixue was a variable they had never accounted for.

And variables were dangerous.

Finally, he exhaled slowly. "There’s no need to act rashly. Keep watching her. If she continues to rise, then we will decide what to do."

Yu Jia’s hands clenched in her lap, but she nodded obediently. "Yes, Grandfather."

But in her heart, resentment burned.
