Chapter 222: Chapter 222: The Past (Second Update)
Tang Yue returned to her dorm room, took a shower, changed into sleepwear, and let her hair down, combing it smooth. Her expression was calm as if the scene she had witnessed before had never existed.
She reviewed some books for a while and solved some problems until she felt sleepy and climbed into bed.
This day, Tang Yue, who hadn’t dreamt about the past for a while, dreamed of her previous life again.
Feeling unwell in her stomach, she decided to go home early and take her medical card to the hospital.
Little did she know that when she arrived home, the door was slightly ajar. In the entrance, there was a pair of Wu Xinming’s shoes and a pair of pearl white women’s shoes.
The two pairs of shoes were scattered messily.
"Didn’t Zhenzhen say she was going to meet her true love today? Why are her shoes still here?" Tang Yue arranged the shoes on the shoe rack, and suddenly, a thought flashed through her mind but she quickly dismissed it.
For some reason, Tang Yue slowed her steps and casually placed her bag on the sofa, her eyes searching around, but she couldn’t spot Wu Xinming or Xu Zhenzhen anywhere.
Their shoes were there, so they should have been too.
Tang Yue looked from the bathroom to the kitchen and even the balcony of the living room. The thought in her mind grew clearer, and she unconsciously held her breath. There seemed to be noises from her room.
This was a new house they had just moved into; everything was brand new, even the bed in the room, which was also brand new with a four-piece set that she had specially chosen for its comfort and softness.
At the time, she liked the sunflower pattern - fresh and simple. Xu Zhenzhen, however, thought the bright red mandarin duck quilt looked nice.
Xu Zhenzhen was eloquent, persuasively saying that they had been married for many years and the red was attractive and festive, reminiscent of the feelings at their wedding.
Tang Yue was also moved then and indeed bought the bright red color.
As she moved further inside, the sounds from the bedroom became more distinct.
"Husband~"
Xu Zhenzhen’s coquettish voice sounded, accompanied by her sultry low moans.
"Baby, call me that again," Wu Xinming’s voice followed, unusually gentle.
"Husband, do you prefer being with me or with her?" Xu Zhenzhen’s voice elongated, her underlying jealousy palpable even from beyond the wall.
This kind of question was frequently asked by Xu Zhenzhen, as if trying to satisfy her strong vanity through Wu Xinming’s lips.
"Of course, it’s you. She’s nothing compared to you..." Wu Xinming suddenly bit Xu Zhenzhen, causing her to laugh tremulously on top of him.
Tang Yue edged a bit closer and saw everything inside the room distinctly.
It was the transition from late summer to early autumn; a thin quilt was tossed aside, and on the bright red sheets, two intertwined naked bodies were visible.
Those two people, one was her husband, the other her best friend.
In that moment, her eyes void of color, already in severe stomach pain, her heart felt as if it was slashed by a knife, bleeding profusely, the pain was indescribable.
Her most loved ones, even though sometimes Wu Xinming’s words didn’t match his feelings, the fact that her mother-in-law didn’t despise her for not having children filled her with gratitude. Regarding Wu Xinming’s coldness toward her, she didn’t mind too much, believing she just wasn’t good enough.
Sometimes when she thought of giving up, the slightest kindness from Wu Xinming made Tang Yue hesitate.
Tears fell silently, Tang Yue picked up her phone and quietly took two photos. Without caring about anything else, she turned around and left. Continuing to watch, she was afraid she might not be able to resist grabbing a knife and killing them both.
She could accept indifference, as life was inherently plain, but she couldn’t tolerate betrayal, let alone by her best friend from elementary school to high school, Xu Zhenzhen.
Tang Yue, with tear-blurred eyes, rushed out to the street, but soon fainted.
In the end, a kind person took her to the hospital. She thought that being betrayed by the person she loved most and her best friend was already the most painful thing in life.
Unexpectedly, fate had more in store.
The doctor told her that her stomach and uterus had severe problems that needed further investigation and it could very likely be cancer.
In an era where the mention of cancer causes great fear, Tang Yue felt darkness before her eyes, realizing she didn’t have much longer to live.
"Doctor, do I really have cancer? I’m usually very healthy." Tang Yue incredulously asked the doctor over and over, cooperating with a series of examinations until the late afternoon around 5:00, when it was confirmed to be stomach cancer. Tang Yue swayed, murmuring to herself, unable to believe it all.
The doctor advised her to cooperate well with chemotherapy, as there might still be a chance of survival.
Tang Yue’s eyes suddenly lit up, she hurried home. Over the years, she had earned more and more money, most of which had been spent on the Wu family, with a small part left saved for emergency.
When she returned to her new home and started looking for her card, she stood dumbfounded in front of the ATM when she found that the money inside had already been withdrawn.
She took a deep breath and prepared to go to her in-laws.
As soon as she arrived at the door of her in-laws’ house, she heard a harmonious atmosphere inside.
What shocked Tang Yue the most, was hearing Xu Zhenzhen’s child affectionately calling her mother-in-law ’Grandma’.
"Zhenzhen, don’t be afraid. Even if Tang Yue finds out, so what? At worst we get a divorce and let Xinming marry you."
These words were spoken by her mother-in-law.
She never knew her mother-in-law had such a kind side.
Every time they met, she either ridiculed her for being an unproductive hen, or complained about her looks, criticizing her as if she had the face of bad luck.
In an instant, Tang Yue seemed to understand everything - why her mother-in-law ridiculed and criticized her, picked on her work, but never pressured Wu Xinming to divorce.
Perhaps, it was because of Xu Zhenzhen’s child. She already had her own grandchild, so whether Tang Yue could have children became irrelevant.
Keeping her around was probably for the money.
After all, her earning capacity was now much stronger than Wu Xinming’s.
And when did Xu Zhenzhen and Wu Xinming get together?
Tang Yue didn’t want to know anymore. Now, she only knew that she wanted a divorce, wanted to take back everything that belonged to her. When her mother passed away, she faintly felt she was mistaken, but since Wu Xinming always protected her in front of his mother, she clung to that insignificant tenderness.
She wanted to extricate herself, yet she was deeply mired.
Now, Tang Yue had no reason left to stay. She only hated how foolish she had been, realizing that she overlooked numerous details, trusting Wu Xinming and Xu Zhenzhen too much which allowed them to deceive her for so many years.
’Clack’
Tang Yue pushed open the door, lacking her usual caution. She pushed the door forcefully, causing it to loudly bang against the wall.
