Chapter 221: Tearing Off the Mask
Chapter 221: Chapter 221: Tearing Off the Mask
"This... That..." Xu Zhenzhen looked around with panicked eyes. She was nervous and apprehensive, her heartbeat thundering. She thought hard, but couldn’t come up with any excuse.
Tang Yue’s lips curled into a faint sneer, she said, "Xu Zhenzhen, don’t tell me you don’t even know why you came to this forest?"
"How could that be." Xu Zhenzhen reflexively retorted.
Tang Yue asked, "So what are you doing here?"
"Could it be..." Tang Yue deliberately elongated her tone.
Xu Zhenzhen denied, "Tang Yue, don’t talk nonsense, I’m not one of those people who mess around with men in the woods." She was just with her beloved man, doing everything that should be done.
When one is deeply in love, the exchange of bodies is natural.
Xu Zhenzhen comforted herself with these thoughts, and her expression became even more serene. She didn’t think she was wrong; she was just afraid that if Tang Yue spread the word, she would be gossiped about at school.
It is as if there is neither hide nor hair here.
Tang Yue looked deeply at Xu Zhenzhen and said, "I know you are not like those lowly women, who engage with men in woods before even getting married, so I’m asking, what are you doing here alone in this little forest?"
Tang Yue emphasized the word ’lowly.’ If she remembered correctly, Wu Xinming had just transferred to their school this semester, and she, being in the top class and spending time with Zhang Tingyu, hadn’t encountered many people in school, let alone Wu Xinming.
With Tang Yue being so busy, she had completely forgotten about this scumbag coming to school.
Now, Tang Yue felt very happy with her life; hence, she preferred not to see the scumbag.
However, she hadn’t expected that, not even a month into the semester, Xu Zhenzhen would be sneaking into the woods with that scumbag.
Yes, Tang Yue was startled by hearing the name ’Xinming,’ stepping on a dry branch, followed by Xu Zhenzhen’s voice.
Xu Zhenzhen’s voice was quite distinctive, not because it was pleasant to hear, but because she always liked to speak in a coquettish tone, a very affected kind of voice.
Heh.
Tang Yue mocked herself in her heart, thinking that she had been blinded by fat in her previous life.
"I am not ’lowly,’ okay?" Xu Zhenzhen retorted loudly, angered.
Tang Yue pursed her lips, looking at that face which seemed so fake, and she didn’t want to watch her get angry anymore; the sight was nauseating no matter how she looked at it.
"Hey, Tang Yue, I am here just... admiring the scenery," Xu Zhenzhen said as she saw Tang Yue leave, quickly chasing after and grabbing Tang Yue’s hand.
Tang Yue instinctively shook her off.
Xu Zhenzhen, unprepared, stumbled almost falling to the ground but managed to stabilize herself by holding onto a nearby tree.
"Class is over, isn’t everyone rushing back to the dormitory to rest? And you, alone, are admiring the scenery in this forest?" Tang Yue scoffed.
Xu Zhenzhen gritted her teeth; she didn’t care anymore, and said, "Tang Yue, pretend you didn’t see me here today."
"Did you do something guilty?" Tang Yue spoke coldly, straightening her back, looking ahead at the winding path, and taking steps forward, not wanting to talk to Xu Zhenzhen anymore.
Xu Zhenzhen caught up and this time, she didn’t dare to grab Tang Yue’s hand. She stood in front of Tang Yue, pleading, "Tang Yue, I hope you can remember our past friendship..."
Tang Yue cut her off, "I used to consider you a friend, but you never saw me as one, and of course, I don’t see you as one now either."
She was very clear about the boundaries. Being friends with Xu Zhenzhen, she wouldn’t even know when she might be betrayed.
"Xu Zhenzhen." Xu Zhenzhen shouted, quickly looking around. She simply threw caution to the wind, threatening, "If you talk about what happened today, don’t blame me for forgetting all the years of our friendship."
Xu Zhenzhen had the audacity to act as if she were full of moral integrity, as though the wrongdoing was on Tang Yue’s part.
A sense of absurdity suddenly rose in Tang Yue’s heart; clearly, it was Xu Zhenzhen who had done something disgraceful, yet why did she appear so self-righteous, as if Tang Yue was the one who had done something wrong?
"Did we even have any friendship left between us?" Tang Yue sneered, taking a step forward with a fierce glance at Xu Zhenzhen, questioning word by word, "When you replied to the love letters for me, but then pinned the label of premature dating on me, did you consider our friendship?"
"When you stole Zhang Minmin’s money and then framed it on me, did you think about our friendship then?"
"When you falsely accused me of plagiarism, did you remember our friendship?"
"I..." Xu Zhenzhen opened her mouth, wanting to explain, but she found she couldn’t justify herself.
Tang Yue scoffed, saying, "When Zhang Minmin wanted to take me to the police station, did you realize that if I were branded a thief, what would happen to my whole life?"
"Also, when you spread bad rumors about me behind my back, did you spare even a moment’s thought for our friendship?"
Tang Yue’s questions hit Xu Zhenzhen like silent slaps, harsh and merciless, across her face.
Xu Zhenzhen’s face turned pale, her lips mumbling, shock showing in her eyes. Had she really done so many... bad things?
Immediately, a stubborn look appeared in Xu Zhenzhen’s eyes.
"No, I had no choice." Xu Zhenzhen posed as a victim too.
Tang Yue took a deep breath, feeling like she really shouldn’t have wasted her breath on her today.
She should have known that people like Xu Zhenzhen, to put it nicely, are set in their ways and difficult to change, or in harsher words, old dogs can’t learn new tricks. People like her, always only think about themselves.
Every time, she acts as if she is innocently compelled, but in fact, it is always because of her own selfishness.
"Hey, Tang Yue." Xu Zhenzhen took a few steps to follow, but Tang Yue left without looking back. Watching Tang Yue’s receding figure, Xu Zhenzhen was panic-stricken, as the thrill and desire from earlier in the woods had all turned into unease.
Would Tang Yue reveal what happened?
After finding out, what would their classmates think of her?
No, even if she told, what about it? Catch a thief with dirty hands, catch a couple for an affair, she only saw her own fault, even if she did tell, who would believe it?
"I’m so stupid." Xu Zhenzhen stamped her foot in frustration. She should have just thrown the dirty water on Tang Yue earlier. It was all her fault for not following the main path, instead taking the shortcut. Who knows if she was just like her, sneaking around for a secret date?
On the way back, Xu Zhenzhen was anxious the whole time, worrying about what would happen if her classmates actually believed Tang Yue’s words?
