Chapter 199: Chapter 199: Cried Out Loud (Second Release)
"Mom, you’re so annoying." Tang Xian yawned. Ever since Granny Tang went to the county, Wang Aihua was either waking him up or shouting at him.
It was so hard to sleep in, but Wang Aihua kept nagging, making the half-asleep Tang Xian feel really annoyed.
"Now it’s half past ten, do you think it’s still early?" Wang Aihua glared at him and said, "How are you doing in school, how much did you score on the exam this time? A few days ago, you asked Tang Yue, and she said she got second place in her grade."
Wang Aihua had to admit, ever since he started high school, his grades had been getting better!
Back in middle school, his grades were okay but just mediocre, not outstanding.
"Mom, don’t compare me to her." Tang Xian’s face immediately darkened.
His grades were good enough to get into the second-tier middle school, which was already quite an achievement.
"Alright, alright, no comparison. You’re going to school tomorrow, is there any dish you want to bring? I’ll make it for you." Wang Aihua’s voice softened, knowing that Tang Xian probably didn’t do well on the exam. She muttered, "You’re in your second year of high school now; you really need to study hard and get into a university. Don’t end up like your little uncle who didn’t get into college and was too ashamed to come home for years."
"Mom, it’s already good enough that I’m in high school. Even if I get into university, can you afford it?" Tang Xian was already frustrated looking at textbooks, and listening to Wang Aihua’s nagging made it even more annoying.
"How can we not afford it? If we can’t afford it, your little uncle can." Wang Aihua had already made up her mind that if they couldn’t afford college, she’d ask Tang Zhengde and Tang Mingli to help support him.
Tang Zhengyuan is working in the factory now and can earn money; by then, with a little additional support from herself, it would be enough.
"Mom, I’m not my little uncle’s son." Tang Xian retorted as he turned and went back to his room to pack his things.
Wang Aihua was about to start cooking lunch when she saw Tang Xian carrying his stuff as if he was going back to school. She quickly asked, "Tang Xian, where are you going?"
"Back to school." Tang Xian adjusted his backpack, which was filled with clean clothes and a few books, and said, "Mom, I won’t come back next week, I’m going to see dad."
"You’re not coming back?" Wang Aihua raised her voice, "It’s Saturday today, you don’t have classes, why go to school now?"
"Dad will give me living expenses; it saves the bus fare if I go back now." Tang Xian, thinking he looked cool, flicked his long fringe and said, "Mom, you don’t earn a single penny at home, dad said that later on, he can earn sixty yuan a month, so stop worrying about me, worry about yourself. Look at my two aunts, not only are they beautiful, but they also earn money."
"Let’s not talk about the second aunt; she has always been more capable than you, this little aunt is from the Provincial City, she used to run her own shop, making tens of yuan a day."
"Mom, if you could earn tens of yuan a day, would I have to worry about money for school?"
Tang Xian dropped these harsh words, swung his backpack, and left, his contempt clear on his face.
Wang Aihua, struck by her son’s words, was so upset that tears began to fall. She rushed forward, but Tang Xian dashed off like a shot and was out of sight in no time.
"Tang Xian, don’t forget who raised you!" Wang Aihua shouted towards Tang Xian’s retreating figure.
She leaned against the door, clutching her aching chest, feeling a terrible pang of pain.
"Mom, what happened?" Just back from someone else’s house, Tang Min saw Wang Aihua leaning against the door, wiping her tears.
"Xiao Min, your brother is driving me crazy," Wang Aihua grabbed Tang Min, regardless of whether Tang Min, being young, might not understand her words, but Wang Aihua just needed to say it.
Tang Min looked a bit confused and replied, looking up, "Mom, but what brother said isn’t wrong either. Second aunt and little aunt, they really are better than you."
Wang Aihua: ...
*
When Granny Tang came home, Wang Aihua had already cried several times, driven to tears by her own son and daughter, which had never happened before.
Tang Xian had left, but eleven-year-old Tang Min was scolded terribly by Wang Aihua; neither mother nor daughter ate lunch. Tang Min cried in bed and fell asleep from crying.
When Granny Tang came back, Tang Min was woken up by hunger.
"Granny, you’re finally back." Tang Min rushed into Granny Tang’s arms, crying as she quickly told her what happened, holding her stomach, she said, "Granny, I’m starving."
"Don’t cry, Granny brought you some tasty treats." This time Granny Tang returned from the county with plenty of food.
Tang Min, dizzy from hunger, started devouring the delicious food Granny Tang had brought.
Just as Wang Aihua returned from the vegetable garden and saw her mother-in-law and Tang Min, she immediately felt guilty and said, "Xiao Min, I’ve kept some food for you in the kitchen."
Tang Min, burying her head in eating the treats, turned her head away, completely ignoring Wang Aihua.
"Look at you, acting up with two kids. Xiao Min is still so young, how could you not even feed her?" Granny Tang scolded Wang Aihua sternly. Although she might favor boys over girls, Tang Min was still her granddaughter; how could she allow her granddaughter to go hungry?
"No wonder Tang Xian doesn’t want to come back." Granny Tang sighed. Wang Aihua’s behavior, indeed far worse compared to Zhang Hualian and Wei Jiajia. It used to be just Zhang Hualian, and that was fine, but now with the addition of Wei Jiajia, even she could clearly feel the difference among the three daughters-in-law.
"Mom," Wang Aihua started crying again as she heard this.
"Going forward, Zheng Yuan will surely do better and better in the factory. You, staying at home all day not taking good care of the kids, tell me, would Zheng Yuan and Xiao Xian want to come back?" Seeing her tears, Granny Tang felt annoyed and said, "If you want to earn money too, then I’ll shed this old face and you can go work as a seamstress in the factory. If not, then just stay quietly at home and take good care of Xiao Min."
"Mom, I’ll go to the factory." Wang Aihua’s eyes immediately lit up; she also wanted to go to the factory, that way she could be with Tang Zhengyuan.
"I can let you go, but how long you can stay depends on you. The factory isn’t Mingli’s; if things aren’t done well and Director Ding doesn’t let you stay, my old face won’t be of any use," Granny Tang stated upfront.
Wang Aihua nodded repeatedly, excitement on her face.
Three days later, Wang Aihua went back home obediently. The reason being, since she entered the factory, the first day was okay, Wang Aihua saw her long-unseen husband Tang Zhengyuan, and the couple was delighted in their reunion.
But on the second and third day, since Wang Aihua was just learning and was slow, thinking herself as Tang Mingli’s elder sister-in-law, she not only worked slowly but also picked fights with others, and even broke a sewing machine.
Scared, Wang Aihua returned to Qianjin Village that very day.
