Chapter 118: Chapter 118 Are You Coming?
In the early morning, Zhang Hualian and Tang Zhengde bid farewell to Tang Yue and Tang Mingli with reluctance as they boarded the shuttle bus. Tang Jun clutched Tang Yue’s hand, admonishing, "Big sis, little uncle, I’ll be waiting for you guys to bring me back gifts."
"Sure." Tang Yue extended her hand from the window, waving at Tang Jun and saying, "Dad, Mom, Xiao Jun, don’t worry. We’ll definitely come back safely."
"Don’t worry, big brother and sister-in-law." Tang Mingli had assured them so many times that he had lost count.
The shuttle bus slowly started moving, and Tang Mingli talked excitedly. It was his first time going to Shenzhen, even though he had grown up so much.
Tang Yue, on the other hand, was much calmer, which made Tang Mingli’s excitement stand out even more.
"Xiao Yue, aren’t you excited?" Tang Mingli looked at Tang Yue perplexedly. He hadn’t been able to sleep last night because of the trip to Shenzhen, and this morning his eyes were ringed with dark circles.
But Tang Yue in front of him seemed to have no ounce of excitement, as if she was just going on another buying trip to the Provincial City; as soon as she sat on the bus, she closed her eyes and planned to sleep.
"Little uncle, who knows how long it’ll be on the train." Tang Yue pursed her lips, too lazy to even open her eyes. She had spoken with Zhang Hualian until late last night, which resulted in her yawning endlessly now.
"But we’re going to Shenzhen." Suddenly, Tang Mingli felt that he, as an uncle, was less enthusiastic than his niece.
With her eyes still closed, Tang Yue replied, "Little uncle, what’s the difference between going to Shenzhen and the Provincial City?"
Tang Mingli: ...
The difference between the Provincial City and Shenzhen was huge.
But where exactly was the difference?
Was it just a bigger place?
More people?
Thinking about it this way, Tang Mingli wasn’t that excited anymore.
He knew the way to the Provincial City like the back of his hand, clear and familiar. The trip got progressively closer until they arrived at the train station, where the crowded, bustling crowd didn’t resemble a special festival nor did it have the horror of the future Spring Festival travel rush.
Tang Yue looked at the somewhat dilapidated train station. Her gaze fell directly on the ticket hall as she said, "Little uncle, let’s go buy the tickets."
"Wait a moment." Tang Mingli continued to look around attentively.
"Little uncle, let’s first ask about the train times." Tang Yue softly suggested, aware that it wasn’t like the future where train schedules could be checked on mobile phones during the trip or at home days or weeks in advance.
It was their first time taking a train, and they were clueless about the timings and frequency of trains to Shenzhen. Upon arriving at the station, shouldn’t they buy tickets immediately?
"I’ll have a look first." Tang Mingli moved very slowly.
Suddenly, Tang Yue had a thought and asked, "Little uncle, aren’t you by chance looking for someone?"
"No, ah..." Tang Mingli’s guilty gaze made it blatantly obvious that his concerns had been hit right on the nose.
Abruptly, Tang Yue spotted that beautiful woman with dimples among the crowd.
"Sister Jiajia." Tang Yue waved her hand and shouted loudly to get Wei Jiajia’s attention before jokingly saying to Tang Mingli, "Little uncle, you sure work fast."
"Xiao Yue, don’t get me wrong, I just— I just thought she goes to Shenzhen often, so I asked her if she knew any locals there," Tang Mingli hurriedly explained.
Tang Mingli whispered swiftly in her ear: "Xiao Yue, don’t talk nonsense."
"Got it," Tang Yue said impatiently while waving her hand. When the girl has made her feelings so clear, why can’t little uncle be as decisive in love as he is in business?
"Sister Jiajia, that’s great. We’ll have company on our trip to Shenzhen." Tang Yue said cheerfully, holding onto Wei Jiajia. Compared to the last time they met, Wei Jiajia was dressed in a white shirt and ordinary flared jeans today. The large flares matched with the white shirt, and her hair tied into a high ponytail made her look youthful and vibrant.
Not to mention Wei Jiajia’s sweet smile; in the train station, there were quite a few onlookers stealing glances at her.
With Wei Jiajia joining them, they could expect to have a pleasant time on the otherwise boring train ride.
Wei Jiajia was indeed experienced in traveling. Throughout the journey, she took good care of them, even bringing snacks for the road.
The hard seats could not compare to the trains of the future. Tired from sitting, she closed her eyes to rest, listening to the soft voices of Wei Jiajia and Tang Mingli chatting near her.
It seemed like the two of them could talk forever. Half-asleep and half-awake, Tang Yue thought that her future little aunt was a sure thing. Maybe they could even welcome her into the family this year.
The train was slow, taking a whole day to go from Provincial City of Jiang City to Shenzhen. They boarded in the afternoon and would probably arrive the next morning around four or five.
That is, if the train wasn’t delayed.
"Xiao Yue, wake up, wash your face; we’re about to arrive in Shenzhen." Wei Jiajia gently nudged Tang Yue, handing over a towel.
Tang Yue rubbed her eyes and asked subconsciously, "Sister Jiajia, are we almost there?"
Looking out the window, indeed, more houses were coming into view, with some seven or eight-story buildings not far away.
"Mhm." Wei Jiajia placed the towel in front of her and said, "Take the chance to wash your face now, freshen up a bit. Once we get off the train, we’ll go have breakfast."
"Okay." Tang Yue glanced at her towel and said, "I have my own towel."
"It’s fine, tough to reach, you can use mine just as well, Xiao Yue, you’re not finding mine inferior, are you? It’s new, I haven’t used it," Wei Jiajia explained.
Tang Yue smiled and took the towel, replying, "Then, thank you, Sister Jiajia."
Having spent the entire night half-asleep, she splashed her face with cold water, feeling much more awake. The train’s rocking motion was steady, and after washing her face multiple times, and retying her hair with her hands, she fully came to her senses.
Before getting off the train, the clothes and such were carried by Tang Mingli. She and Wei Jiajia walked arm in arm ahead, and although there weren’t many people at that time, the crowd was still substantial.
The money she had was sewn inside her clothes, with only the rest being ten or eight yuan, and one or two yuan was kept for small expenses.
Exiting the train station, listening to the unfamiliar voices around, Tang Mingli closely followed behind Wei Jiajia and Tang Yue, saying, "Xiao Yue, Jiajia, hold on tight, don’t let go. I’m right behind you."
Tang Mingli instantly became highly tense, feeling the unfamiliarity of being in a new place.
"Little uncle, don’t worry, we won’t get lost," Tang Yue couldn’t help but say, looking at Shenzhen where not a trace of familiarity could be seen. She looked up at the tallest building and thought to herself, "I, Tang Yue, will definitely not follow the old path I once did, that left me trapped and eventually cost me a life!"
