Rebirth: I Am Not the Movie Queen This Time -
Chapter 269: Retreat
Chapter 269: Chapter 269: Retreat
With the sudden power outage, a wave of chaos erupted among the protesting crowd, and the M country’s Seal Team immediately fired into the sky, trying to quiet them down.
After the gunfire, the dock was quiet for a few seconds, then came various howls, scrambling, and chaos...
The Seal Team from M country quickly sensed that something was wrong. They all came out of their posts, no longer standing by indifferently waiting for the protests to dissipate on their own, but began to drive the crowd away.
They must drive away these intruders to prevent anyone from taking advantage of the chaos.
In the midst of the chaos, the people were gradually driven away, and the dock quieted down again. Emergency lights turned on, but were far less bright than the previous daylight-like brightness.
Unfortunately, before this, Ma Yanmei had already contacted Jiang Kechu and the others, briefly reported what Wan Chu’er had done, and set a time with them. Taking advantage of the retreat of the protesting crowd, she quietly left the area.
The leader of the Seal Team began to check the scene, and even sent out a few people to patrol the surroundings.
Things went as Wan Chu’er had predicted. By two twenty, the dock had returned to its prior quietude, and the Seal Team sent out for patrol returned empty-handed.
A few of the grunts grumbled a few sentences.
"Sir, no need to worry, it was just a false alarm."
"These people only dare to protest verbally, no one dares to take up arms against our empire’s army."
"Yeah, yeah, we are the strongest in the universe. Whoever dares to challenge us must first see if they have the life to do so."
...
The leader pondered for a moment, then instructed, "Keep a close watch on that cargo ship. This power outage is somewhat odd; make sure we don’t capsize in a ditch. In another day, we’ll topple that ship!"
A soldier said cheerily: "The power infrastructure in K country is among the worst on Earth, there’s none other. Power outages are common, no need to be tense, loosen up a bit."
"Boss, why can’t we just board that ship directly, why do we have to wait forty-eight hours? We’ve detained their ship; Huaxia wouldn’t dare to snatch it back," asked another grunt.
"Yeah, yeah, really can’t understand their thinking, insisting on waiting forty-eight hours." Someone echoed.
The leader frowned: "Follow orders; this is from the higher-ups." Seeing everyone’s nonchalant attitude, he further explained:
"Huaxia is the most cunning, not as easy to deal with as K country, even bringing the issue to the United Nations."
"Alright, no matter what, make sure you guard that ship well, don’t let the cooked duck fly away."
Now although the ship had entered their sphere of influence, because of that forty-eight hours, it was currently guarded by K country’s soldiers, with their own men on the outer perimeter.
In any case, at the time of the worst chaos, their nerves were on edge, the alert level was raised to the highest, and in the end, it was nothing more than a false alarm, and most of them relaxed.
Jiang Kechu, through his Night Vision Goggles, saw that the number of M country’s Seal Team members on the perimeter had halved, and those who continued patrolling were not as cautious as before. He carefully waved his hand to the back and made a gesture.
The two people behind him moved silently to the seaside and then disappeared.
Now that there was no power on the dock, and the electricity wouldn’t be restored for at least two hours, the alarm network in the water was rendered useless, and they could infiltrate from the sea.
After Ma Yanmei left, Wan Chu’er found a hidden spot to conceal herself, and she dared not turn on her computer, fearing the light from the computer screen would be captured by someone intent on finding it.
Now it was just her alone; she couldn’t afford any mishaps that might actually cause trouble for others.
As she sat waiting, bored to death, she suddenly heard a commotion grow from a distance, so she quickly shrank back and through a crack, she saw it was the same group that had gone to protest with great momentum earlier.
This group of people no longer had their previous vigor; everyone was disheveled, with a sense of fleeing in disarray.
Wan Chu’er’s lips curled slightly, it seemed that Jiang Kechu and his team were about to take action.
She wondered if Ma Yanmei had found them yet.
After the crowd passed, a nimble figure silently climbed up to the building where Wan Chu’er was hiding.
Wan Chu’er was pondering Jiang Kechu’s moves when she suddenly saw half a figure in her line of sight, her heart almost jumped out with a thud. After realizing it was Ma Yanmei, she clutched her chest, gasping for air.
She poked her head out and whispered, "Over here."
Ma Yanmei zipped over to her.
"At 2:40, Captain Jiang and his team will make their move. At 2:45, you need to hack into the Seal Team’s system and prevent them from communicating with each other via wireless," Ma Yanmei said.
Wan Chu’er’s eyes lit up and she asked, "Did you see them? How are they doing, did Jiang Kechu praise me for being awesome?"
Ma Yanmei: "...No, Captain Jiang said you were being reckless and told us we must leave here by 2:46."
In fact, Captain Jiang’s face must have been even darker, but since it was dim, she couldn’t see clearly. She could only feel the low atmospheric pressure around him, he was probably fuming.
She glanced at Wan Chu’er, who one second before had been proud, and the next depressed, thinking to herself: Once back in Huaxia, Captain Jiang will definitely give her a good lesson.
Wan Chu’er rolled her eyes, glanced at the time, and opened her laptop again.
"Is it ready?" Ma Yanmei asked in a low voice, her eyes vigilantly scanning the surroundings.
"OK, let’s bounce!" Wan Chu’er briskly closed the laptop, stuffed it into her bag, and crouched down to move away.
Ma Yanmei did a quick cleanup, thoroughly destroying any trace of their presence, then hurriedly followed suit.
The two moved carefully towards the city center. There were no cars available at that time, and even if there were, they couldn’t use them. They had to rely solely on their legs.
They cautiously moved through bushes and forest, Wan Chu’er stumbling along, tripping several times.
When she was pulled up by Ma Yanmei once again, she complained with annoyance, "Why don’t you ever trip? Is there some kind of secret?"
Despite the tense situation, Ma Yanmei couldn’t help but laugh at her.
"No secret, just that during our training, we’ve run on much tougher roads countless times."
Then, suddenly Ma Yanmei grabbed Wan Chu’er and pulled her to the ground, "Hide, something’s up!"
Wan Chu’er fell face-first onto the grass, the dry branches scratching her face, but she had to endure the pain and dared not make a sound.
She listened, hearing nothing unusual, and was just about to ask if Ma Yanmei had made a mistake when there were rustling noises from the road ahead.
Wan Chu’er’s heart hitched, immediately tense, not daring to move, her heartbeat pounding fiercely.
She pressed her head tightly against the bushes, trying to make her silhouette even lower.
Soon clear voices could be heard, speaking English with a local K-country accent.
"There’s nobody here, these M-country folks jump at shadows, not letting anyone sleep at night, making everyone wander aimlessly," one person said.
Another agreed, "It’s truly infuriating. I hope those bastards don’t end up in my hands someday, otherwise, I’ll definitely blow their ass up."
Blow their ass up?
Wan Chu’er suddenly felt an odd sense of humor amidst the tension.
