Rebirth: I Am Not the Movie Queen This Time -
Chapter 264: Tight Schedule
Chapter 264: Chapter 264: Tight Schedule
Chuchu Wan efficiently signed the confidentiality agreement.
"From now on, you cannot contact the outside world in any manner. Please follow me to change clothes, Miss Wan."
The corners of Chuchu Wan’s mouth twitched slightly. Isn’t this a bit too cautious? Were they worried she might be carrying eavesdropping devices or something similar?
However, she smartly refrained from speaking and simply nodded in agreement. Then she entered a small room with the female military officer and changed into a new set of clothes in front of her, from the inside out.
The clothes fit well, but were also very ordinary - so ordinary that they could get lost in crowds.
This probably facilitated the execution of her mission.
"Miss Wan, your personal items will be temporarily held by us. Upon completion of this mission, we will return them to you intact."
By this point, like cattle and sheep at the mercy of their handlers, Chuchu Wan had no right to refuse; she could only nonchalantly nod in agreement.
The two of them then returned to the room they had been in before. After she sat down again, she saw each of the three in front of her open a suitcase.
"This is your identity in Country K. Unless you are meeting the former President of K, you must not reveal any information about your true identity."
"You are a low-level employee of a multinational company based in the port city. This time, you are going to K Country as a technician to support a company project; your expertise is in computers. Here is your identification information."
"This is information on the main political parties in K Country and key figures within each party, as well as their relationships with former President Damler, for emergency reference. Try to remember all of it."
"Former President Damler’s personal hobbies and habits, as well as his current home situation, you need to be familiar with them to avoid touching his taboos."
"This document outlines the plan for your mission and accompanying personnel details. Please follow the plan strictly and listen to the arrangements of your companion without acting on your own."
"The current political factional strife in K Country is complex, and the security situation is very unstable. Just in case, we will provide you with a self-defense pistol. Here is how to use this small gun..."
"These are detailed accounts of your father’s rescue of President Damler, including several photos of your father, which you will carry with you."
She even had photos of her dad!
Chuchu Wan’s gaze instantly fixed on those three photographs.
One photo showed Wan Shiguo wearing camouflage uniform at the training grounds, punching spiritedly.
Another photo was of Wan Shiguo with a foreign old man.
"This is a photo of your father with President Damler."
Chuchu Wan flipped to the last photo, and her eyes instantly moistened.
In the photo, little Chuchu Wan was riding on Wan Shiguo’s neck, both father and daughter smiling joyfully.
It was her appearance when she was five or six years old - a photo she didn’t have. How could they possess it? Lightly touching the photo with her hand, Chuchu Wan seemed to want to feel Wan Shiguo’s face through it, a flicker of doubt crossing her mind.
Regrettably, at this moment, time was of the essence, and it wasn’t the time for her to dwell on time gone by.
In just half an hour, Chuchu Wan absorbed a huge amount of information, remembered the identity of another ordinary woman, learned to shoot for self-defense - though her aim was still terrible...
"Knock knock knock."
The door was knocked upon, and then a middle-aged man walked in, his dark skin suggesting he had faced harsh elements, possessing an air of steady authority.
Upon seeing the newcomer, the three soldiers in the room immediately stood up and saluted.
Chuchu Wan wondered who this could be and also stood up out of courtesy.
"How’s everything?" he asked.
"Reporting, sir, we have gone through everything. Mr. Wan has been very cooperative, has mastered most of the information, and is ready to depart at any time."
The middle-aged man nodded, then solemnly turned to Chuchu Wan: "Little Wan, I appreciate your efforts on this mission."
Chuchu Wan quickly shook her head: "Sir, it’s no trouble. May I make a request?"
Everyone in the room paused, "What request?"
After taking a deep breath, Chuchu Wan said decisively, "After this mission, may I take these three photos with me?"
She pointed to the three pictures of Wan Shiguo, pictures she had seen for the first time.
The man glanced at them and then said, "You may."
"Thank you."
"Alright, let’s set out."
"Yes!" Three soldiers saluted and affirmed.
Then Wan Chu’er left with one of the female soldiers, her hand now carrying a case with some documents inside, which she still had time to study on the way.
After exiting the door, she saw the two people who had previously escorted her were still waiting. They said to her, "Please come this way."
The two led them out of the small building, got into a military vehicle that had been waiting outside, and the vehicle started moving toward a vacant area where a helicopter was visible in the distance.
The helicopter’s rotors were spinning, emitting a loud noise.
After getting out of the car, Wan Chu’er and the female soldier quickly ran under the helicopter, then boarded it, strapped in, put on headphones, and the aircraft began to soar into the sky.
Wan Chu’er was amazed and wanted to ask, "Just the two of us? Why haven’t I seen anyone else?" but the noise was too overwhelming to shout over, and she wasn’t sure if the pilot would hear her and compromise the mission, so she kept her mouth shut.
In just over twenty minutes, they landed on an airfield.
After disembarking, someone quickly came to pick them up and they got into a jeep.
The two young men in civilian clothes inside the jeep said, "We’ll talk while en route. There’s a flight to Country K departing soon, we should hurry."
So these two men and the female soldier would accompany Wan Chu’er on this trip. One was called Li Zheng, the other Wang Zhitao, and the female soldier was Ma Yanmei.
Wan Chu’er felt that all three names were fake, but she didn’t ask. After all, she too had a common fake name: Wang Meili.
Ma Yanmei took off her uniform in the back seat, replacing it with a regular jacket and a pair of jeans.
In a few minutes, they stopped in front of a large airplane.
Li Zheng handed Wan Chu’er a passport, "Here’s your passport and your plane ticket."
Wang Zhitao pulled out a small suitcase from a box behind him, "This is your luggage."
Alright, everything had indeed been prepared for her.
Wan Chu’er silently accepted her things, then followed them quickly to board the plane.
Until the plane took off, Wan Chu’er had not seen Jiang Kechu.
Was he not on the same flight with her? How was he going then? A plane should be the fastest mode of transport, right?
Thinking over and over, Wan Chu’er couldn’t help asking Ma Yanmei, "Isn’t Jiang... the leader not with us..."
Ma Yanmei immediately interrupted her, "It’s not our place to worry about others’ schedules. The flight will take four hours, you might as well review the information in the documents."
Wan Chu’er sighed; alright, secrecy must be maintained.
She took a deep breath, took out the documents, and continued to read.
Ma Yanmei, with Li Zheng and Wang Zhitao in the back row, saw that she was reading intently and nodded at each other, all on high alert.
After Wan Chu’er had reviewed all the documents twice and made sure she hadn’t missed anything, all committed to memory, she locked the papers back in the case.
"I need to use the restroom," she spoke softly.
Ma Yanmei got up, intending to accompany her, but Wan Chu’er couldn’t help saying, "Is that necessary? We’re on a plane, just a short distance away."
"Better to be safe than sorry," was Ma Yanmei’s reply, with a firmness that brooked no argument.
Wan Chu’er had no choice but to agree.
The restroom was at the very end, and as she passed the second-to-last row, her eyes unintentionally caught a glimpse of a man with a high nose and a bearded face tucked into the seat.
The man had his eyes tightly closed, appearing to be in deep sleep.
When Wan Chu’er’s gaze moved away, she paused, quickly turned her head back to look at Ma Yanmei, but noticed no abnormality in her.
She asked, "How much longer until we land?"
Ma Yanmei was caught off guard and replied, "One hour."
Wan Chu’er uttered an "Oh," and then went into the restroom.
After locking the door, she took a couple of deep breaths. That bearded man was Jiang Kechu!
Jiang Kechu’s nose was quite convincing, but his hands had given him away.
Not to mention that she was very familiar with those hands; she had cut his nails three days ago.
For fun at the time, she had cut one thumb nail straight and the other into a crescent, but had accidentally snipped off a piece of flesh.
