Rebirth: He Decides to Lie Flat -
Chapter 529 - 529 524 Attack
Chapter 529: Chapter 524 Attack Chapter 529: Chapter 524 Attack After their walk, they returned to the hotel, thinking they wouldn’t be able to fall asleep again so soon after sleeping for a few hours earlier.
But as the two of them lay in bed watching television, they quickly grew tired and soon fell into a deep sleep.
The next day, after breakfast, they checked out of the hotel and left. They traveled at leisure all the way to Xicheng, and by the time they returned to Beijing, half a month had passed.
As September approached and the school year was about to start, Professor Li called her. The new round of research and data had been sent to her mailbox, asking her to review it and attend a meeting in the lab the following day.
Jiang Yan also had to go to the electronics factory.
Both became busy with their separate tasks.
This morning, as Mu Jiawen cycled to the lab, she happened to pass by Qi Lihong, who had just arrived for work at the specialty store.
“Jiawen,”
Mu Jiawen squeezed the brake to stop her bicycle and tilting her head, she sized up Qi Lihong. She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but always felt that Xiaoqin, now pregnant, seemed different from before. Although still not fond of smiling, there was a softness in her eyes, a light in them, no longer the quiet indifference of the past.
Glancing at her belly, although the light green dress was very loose, Mu Jiawen still noticed something, expressing her surprise, “It seems a bit larger, doesn’t it?”
She had accompanied her for a checkup at her second brother’s hospital in June, when they had found out it was only forty days along, and now it was just two months later… She remembered when her sister-in-law was pregnant with Yu Ang, she didn’t show until well past four months.
But now at just over three months, how come her lower abdomen was already protruding?
Had she just gained weight from eating?
No, because her face was still so thin.
“I just had a check-up at the hospital a few days ago, it’s…”
Qi Lihong stepped forward, whispering into Mu Jiawen’s ear, “When they did the ultrasound, the doctor said it’s twins.”
Twins?
Mu Jiawen’s eyes widened in surprise, looking at Qi Lihong’s curved smiling eyes, her demeanor exuding maternal radiance.
Mu Jiawen couldn’t help but feel a bit moved.
She smiled as well and said earnestly, “Take good care of yourself, and you can call me if you need anything. I’ve already spoken to my second brother, and you can give birth at Furen when the time comes.”
Because Liu Wenhui’s mother objected, Qi Lihong hadn’t agreed to get a marriage certificate, fearing future complications.
After all, she could afford to raise her child on her own.
So, in comparison to Liu Wenhui, she trusted Mu Jiawen even more.
The two chatted for a few more moments before parting ways to attend to their own business.
…
Feixue Electronics Factory.
Liu Wenhui ran to the electronics factory to get new components for the internet café’s computers, taking advantage of the midday lull.
After getting the components and the paperwork from the staff, Liu Wenhui carried the boxes out to the factory’s parking lot.
Just as he was about to put the boxes into the trunk and leave, he suddenly remembered that he needed Jiang Yan’s signature on a contract. So, he opened the car door and pulled out the yellow file bag from the passenger side, but just as he was about to pull himself out from the car seat, he noticed some movement inside a van parked in front.
Liu Wenhui found it odd, but as he came out to lock his car and took a step forward to investigate, a silver Bentley slowly drove up from not far away.
That was Jing Junyang’s car.
Liu Wenhui halted, and from the windshield, he saw Jiang Yan sitting in the passenger seat.
Well that saves me the trip upstairs.
At this moment, he forgot the oddity of the minivan and, with a smile, walked toward the Bentley that was parking.
“What are you two bosses up to?”
“Just grabbing a meal.”
Jiang Yan alighted and took the contract from his hand, casually asking about his internet cafe.
Liu Wenhui seemed unaware of the previous incident in Kang City.
If he didn’t mention it, Jiang Yan acted as if it never happened.
Due to the rain the day before, the weather was quite cool today, and the absence of the sun meant that even standing in the parking lot wasn’t as stifling as before.
Jing Junyang parked the Bentley next to Liu Wenhui’s Audi. About ten meters to the right front, a not-too-old minivan was parked; its windows were covered with black film, obscuring the interior.
Jiang Yan quickly scanned the contract and signed his name on the last page.
After handing it to Liu Wenhui, he turned and walked toward Jing Junyang.
But as he passed the minivan, all of a sudden “whoosh,” the minivan door was yanked open, and a person sprung out, wielding a club and viciously swinging it toward his head.
“Jiang Yan, watch out!”
Liu Wenhui, who was behind him and saw everything clearly, yelled out and rushed forward.
The attack was sudden, and even though Jiang Yan’s reaction was fast, he still got hit on his right arm while dodging.
Worse still, there wasn’t just one person in the minivan; after the first attacker sprang out, immediately five others followed. Two of them rushed at Jiang Yan, while the three others rushed toward Jing Junyang, who had barely stepped out of the car.
Damn, being attacked in the parking lot of his own factory…
While dodging, Jiang Yan’s first thought was that there was a mole.
But now clearly wasn’t the time to think about that, the tall and strong man who had first hit his arm was relentlessly pursuing him, swinging a thick club at him; luckily, Liu Wenhui arrived in time to kick the man hard in the midsection, causing him to stagger. If it weren’t for the two people who rushed to support him, he probably would have fallen flat on his face.
“Motherfucker, looking to die?”
After Liu Wenhui swore, he took advantage of the three men’s unsteady stance and quickly ran toward Jing Junyang with Jiang Yan.
Fighting wasn’t something either of them feared, but the attackers were clearly prepared, wielding clubs and knives. Charging in recklessly at this point was courting death, wasn’t it?
Moreover, there was the gentle and bookish Jing Junyang.
“Run…”
Either out of shock or confusion, seeing three men charging at him menacingly with clubs, Jing Junyang just froze, standing still and not moving an inch.
It wasn’t until Jiang Yan’s shout reached him that he finally snapped out of it, but by then it was too late to turn and run, as the three were already upon him, clubbing wildly in his direction.
As Jing Junyang stepped back twice, he found his path blocked by his own Bentley. With one club about to hit him, he panicked and sidestepped, only to hear a loud thud as the club struck the Bentley’s front hood.
Immediately, the shrill and loud “beep beep beep beep” of the alarm sounded.
Everyone present was momentarily stunned.
While the three men assaulting Jing Junyang were taken aback, Jiang Yan and Liu Wenhui pounced on the closest one, one pinning his upper body and the other attempting to snatch the club from his hand.
By the time the others reacted, Liu Wenhui had already snatched a club.
He naturally had a ferocious streak and now, since he was acting in self-defense following an attack, he had no reservations about fighting back.
With his help, Jiang Yan soon got a hold of a club too. Although they were the main combatants and the opponents numbered six, the situation quickly turned around.
It wasn’t long before the factory’s security guards and workers were drawn over by the alarm…
