Chapter 408: Chapter 403 Production Chapter 408: Chapter 403 Production The shabby old apartment Liu Wenhui had given to Qi Lihong had been demolished. She asked for a small house of over seventy square meters, and gave all the other demolition compensation to Liu Wenhui, not keeping a cent for herself.

She had her own money and no longer needed anyone’s charity.

Of course, the main reason was that now it was just her left. What use was there for more money?

Qi Lihong had become even more silent now. Aside from saying a few words to Mu Jiawen, she usually kept her mouth tightly shut, not speaking unless absolutely necessary.

Even her attitude towards Liu Wenhui had subtly changed. She even calmly told him that if he ever wanted to break up, he should just let her know in advance. They should part on good terms, and she wouldn’t blame him.

It seemed she was certain that this was the inevitable outcome for them, and there wouldn’t be a second possibility.

It wasn’t surprising that she thought this way, after all, the opposition was his mother. Could she possibly expect him to cut ties with his own mother?

Definitely not, and she wouldn’t do that either.

Time flew by, and soon it was April first.

Luo Xiao’s labor pains began.

Right after school on Friday afternoon, Mu Jiawen received a call from her mom, “Your sister-in-law is about to give birth, we’re all at your second brother’s hospital now.”

After hanging up, Mu Jiawen was still a bit skeptical. Today was April Fool’s Day—could her mom be so trendy?

This year, for some unknown reason, even April Fool’s Day was being celebrated. It was a day full of deception, and she had already been tricked five times, with one of those times resulting in a run to Teacher Tang’s office. Of course, that was a hoax; Tang An hadn’t called her to see him.

So much so that she doubted any new information she heard now.

Of course, she got her own back later.

After leaving Tang An’s office, she returned to the classroom with a calm expression and didn’t confront Shen Mengfei about anything. Instead, she went to the podium and seriously told everyone, “Teacher Tang said he has something to do this afternoon and we’re swapping with the morning’s PE class. We’ll head to the communal classroom after this class. Those who didn’t bring their books should use the long break to go back and fetch them.”

Tang An taught two classes and they always had PE together in the communal classroom on the fifth floor.

Apart from Shen Mengfei pausing for a second, looking a bit doubtful, others either voiced their complaints about Teacher Tang or hurriedly got up to retrieve their books from their classroom.

Shen Mengfei opened his mouth as if to ask something but seeing many people rushing out, he quickly got up, in a fluster to grab his books.

By the last class of the morning, Mu Jiawen was the only one to head to the sports field.

The PE teacher, not understanding why, asked the others why they hadn’t come.

Mu Jiawen, not feeling guilty in the slightest, said, “Shen Mengfei led everyone to the second communal classroom on the fifth floor, I don’t know why exactly, but I did tell them to come and they wouldn’t.”

The PE teacher, panting, ran up to the fifth floor and upon entering the classroom, began by fiercely scolding Shen Mengfei, who was still waiting for Teacher Tang, and then the others. After that, the group rushed to the sports field.

Having been pranked by Mu Jiawen but then pranked by her in return, and even involving the entire class in the process, Shen Mengfei and several other classmates who had tricked her were caught between laughter and tears.

When Mu Jiawen and Jiang Yan arrived at the hospital, Yu Heng was pacing the corridor with Luo Xiao, while Mu Chenyan was making a phone call inside the ward.

“Sister-in-law, wasn’t your due date on the tenth?”

Mu Jiawen didn’t quite understand and always felt that delivering so many days early could be an issue. Would her little nephew be considered a premature baby then?

Luo Xiao, with one hand linked through Yu Heng’s arm and the other supporting her waist, took a couple of deep breaths before saying to Mu Jiawen, “This little guy has been restless all day. I think he wants to come out earlier, ah… Look at him.”

Pregnant women usually have higher body temperatures, which is why Luo Xiao was only wearing a knitted maternity dress despite it being just the start of April. Yet, even with just that, she would start sweating after walking just a few steps.

The dress clung tightly to her belly, allowing Mu Jiawen and the others to clearly see a small fist-sized bulge on one side. Soon after the bulge subsided, another one would appear on the opposite side… It was as if the little thing inside was boxing in his mother’s belly, striking here and then there, leaving Mu Jiawen gaping in astonishment.

Could this really mean he was eager to come out?

“Be good, or I’ll deal with you when you come out.”

Yu Heng placed his hand on Luo Xiao’s stomach, and then something miraculous happened. As soon as he finished speaking, Luo Xiao’s belly instantly calmed down and stopped moving.

Mu Jiawen’s eyes widened in shock, “He, he, he… Can he understand?”

Luo Xiao laughed out loud, “It’s hard to comprehend, isn’t it? This is the remarkable mystery of human life. Even though he shouldn’t understand, every time your big brother touches my belly, he becomes extremely obedient. If we tell him to be quiet, he’ll be quiet. If we tell him to kick, he’ll kick. Father and son have a good understanding of each other already.”

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yan thought to himself that true to the Yu family’s lineage, the kid’s intelligence seemed to have manifested before he was even born.

By 7:30 in the evening, Luo Xiao’s cervix had dilated to three centimeters. By 8 o’clock, it was four centimeters, and by 10 o’clock, it had only just managed to reach eight centimeters. It was then that Luo Xiao was finally wheeled into the delivery room by the nurses.

Yu Heng followed her into the room, assuming that the birth would happen quickly since Luo Xiao was in good physical condition; she had frequently walked and done prenatal exercises during her pregnancy. But they ended up waiting until almost midnight before they finally heard the cry of a baby from inside the delivery room.

The people waiting outside simultaneously let out a sigh of relief.

Mu Chenyan said to Mu Jiawen, “Wait until the child and your sister-in-law are brought out. After you’ve had a look, go back with Jiang Yan.”

Mu Jiawen asked in surprise, “Mom, aren’t you coming back with us?”

They had a maternity nurse with them, and she was waiting outside the delivery room with them at the moment.

Mu Chenyan smiled, “Your sister-in-law has just given birth; it’s best for me to stay the first night, so she can have peace of mind and sleep.”

Women are most vulnerable and in need of a sense of security right after giving birth, so it’s best that someone they trust and rely on is there to help look after the baby, otherwise they can’t even sleep well.

True, the maternity nurse and Yu Heng were there, but one was a stranger while the other had no clue how to take care of a child. So, the only person who could truly reassure Luo Xiao was her mother-in-law.

When Mu Chenyan had given birth to her children, Old Madame Yu had stayed by her side for the first three nights, only returning to her own room to sleep when Chenyan’s physical and mental strength had somewhat recovered.

This was one of the main reasons why they had maintained a harmonious mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship over the years.

Chenyan now also tried hard to be an understanding and empathetic mother-in-law. Since she usually got along well with Luo Xiao, she was more than willing to fulfill her obligations during a critical period for her daughter-in-law.

Before long, Yu Heng came out holding the baby first, and Mu Jiawen quickly moved closer to see.

The little guy’s face was somewhat red and wrinkly, hardly what one could call handsome. Yet, he had a pair of big, lively eyes that darted around. His hair was dark and thick, curling and sticking to his scalp. His tiny hands were like chicken claws, clenched into little fists as if he were surrendering.

Just as Mu Jiawen was about to remark on how ugly the baby was, she heard her big brother say, “He looks just like you did when you were born.”

Mu Jiawen: …
