Rebirth: He Decides to Lie Flat -
Chapter 326 - 326 323 Dont Let the Fertile Water Flow into
Chapter 326: Chapter 323: Don’t Let the Fertile Water Flow into Others’ Fields Chapter 326: Chapter 323: Don’t Let the Fertile Water Flow into Others’ Fields In the evening, Ma Zheng stayed at Xiao Qi’s house with Jiang Yan.
Originally, he wanted to stay at a hotel, but Xiao Qi, drunk as a lord, clung to him and wouldn’t let go, insisting that he stay at his place. It was only Xiao Qi at home anyway, so Yu Hang and Yin Shen simply joined them while only Zhu Zhen returned to his own place.
The next morning, when Jiang Yan woke up, it was already nine o’clock. Upon opening his eyes, he first checked to see what heavy thing was pressing on his leg.
When he saw Ma Zheng hugging his leg and drooling in his sleep contentedly, he was stunned for a moment before he remembered that the kid hadn’t gone home last night. They had been drinking until one in the morning, and he had stayed up with them until then before collapsing into bed and falling asleep immediately.
Feeling the sticky saliva on his leg, Jiang Yan picked up the kid by the collar of his clothes with disgust and moved him aside before wiping his leg clean with a tissue.
After a quick shower, Jiang Yan went downstairs to buy breakfast.
By the time he returned, Yu Hang and Yin Shen were awake, but the little rascal was still sound asleep.
Jiang Yan checked his phone and found that since he had picked up the kid the previous afternoon, Shu Wan hadn’t made a single phone call.
She was just…that confident in him? Wasn’t she afraid he might sell her son?
He woke the kid up, and when Ma Zheng opened his sleepy eyes, Jiang Yan asked, “Ma Zheng, do you have classes today?”
Ma Zheng became instantly alert, shaking his head as if it were a rattle, “No, I don’t have any today or tomorrow either.”
Math Olympiad was too simple; it didn’t matter whether he attended or not.
He had already learned the breaststroke in swimming. Isn’t one style enough to save himself? Why bother learning freestyle? No way was he going!
So, he had no classes today.
Jiang Yan looked at him skeptically, “Are you sure?”
“Absolutely sure!”
Convinced by his emphatic response, Jiang Yan didn’t press further and patted his head, telling him to wash up. Noticing Ma Zheng’s wrinkled shorts and T-shirt, he said, “I’ll take you home later…”
“I don’t want to go home!”
Fearing being sent back, Ma Zheng looked up imploringly, “Brother, I only see you once a year.”
Jiang Yan paused, then chuckled, “There were years when you didn’t see me at all.”
“No, that’s not true. Before you went to university, I saw you several times a year. Sometimes when I was with mom passing by your school, if we saw you playing basketball on the field, we’d watch you from behind the fence. But then you transferred schools and I didn’t see you much. I’m glad you came back…”
“Are you a chatterbox? Go brush your teeth and wash your face, quick.”
Jiang Yan didn’t let him finish speaking and after Ma Zheng entered the bathroom, he thought for a moment and sent a text message to Shu Wan.
Half an hour later, the front door of Xiao Qi’s house was knocked, Shu Wan delivered two sets of clothes for Ma Zheng and put his worn clothes into the bag.
Before leaving, she asked Ma Zheng, “Aren’t you attending your classes today?”
Ma Zheng hurriedly replied, “Mom, you remembered wrong, I don’t have classes today.” After saying that, he sneakily glanced at Jiang Yan.
Shu Wan glanced at him then let it slide, thinking, if he doesn’t want to attend, then don’t.
Jiang Yan pretended not to hear.
In the afternoon, Jiang Yan took Ma Zheng to his small place at the Normal University family complex and handed him a bucket of water and a rag, instructing him to wipe down everything that could be wiped inside the house.
Ma Zheng happily agreed, working with an unexpected zest.
He stayed with Jiang Yan until the fourth day, then was thoroughly sent back home.
“Brother, are you going back to school?”
“Yeah.”
“So soon?”
Seeing his head bowed in disappointment, Jiang Yan rubbed his head in an uncharacteristically gentle manner and handed him a box from the backseat.
“What’s this?”
“Open it and see.”
It was a new digital camera from the electronics factory, with quite a high resolution. He had intended to give it to him right from the start, and had kept it in the back seat. The kid sat there as well, but he neither touched it nor asked Jiang Yan what it was.
Yeah, that’s a good habit, not touching other people’s stuff without permission.
Jiang Yan drove Ma Zheng home before heading to Jianghai Town to pick up Mu Jiawen.
There was a dinner gathering tonight, and Wang Xiaole and Xu Yan had been waiting for her.
…
“Yu Hang, I’ve heard that there are lots of beauties at the School of Communication. Have you got a girlfriend yet?”
Zhu Jin was waiting for Mu Jiawen at the restaurant’s entrance, and just as they walked into the private room, she unexpectedly heard Wang Xiaole say this.
Zhu Jin paused mid-step but then walked over nonchalantly, pulled out the chair next to Yu Hang, sat down, and stealthily glanced at him.
Yu Hang, sharp as ever, turned to look at Zhu Jin, saw that she had turned her head away with no intention of speaking to him, and then turned back, saying, “What beauties? At best, they’re just a bit more graceful. But like you lot, there isn’t one.”
Wang Xiaole didn’t believe it for a second. She pursed her lips, “College has really polished your tongue over the past year, as if. I’d believe you if you said there’s no one like Jiajia.”
Wang Xiaole stopped bothering with him and went over to talk with Xu Yan and Mu Jiawen.
Jiang Yan was sitting on the other side of Yu Hang while Xiao Qi leaned in close to the two men and whispered, “Did you guys notice? Zhu Jin seems like a completely different person, getting more and more beautiful.”
When Xiao Qi saw Zhu Jin over the New Year, he almost didn’t recognize her. Now, another half year had passed, and he found her face and temperament had improved even more.
Jiang Yan spoke the truth, “Her features were good to begin with. The only issues before were her teeth and she didn’t have time to care for her skin. Now that both have been addressed, naturally she’s becoming more and more beautiful. Right, Yu Hang?”
Yu Hang, puzzled, looked at him and nodded, “You’re right. On the train ride back, quite a few guys approached her for her contact information.”
“Did she give it to them?”
“How could I let her do that? Zhu Zhen and I blocked them all. We’re not familiar with them, so why should she be handing out her contact to random people?
Jiang Yan glanced at him and remained silent.
Yu Hang felt that Jiang Yan was acting strangely today.
Just then, Xiao Qi asked Jiang Yan, “Has she started dating anyone at your university?”
“I haven’t heard Jiajia mention it, so probably not.”
“Then…” Xiao Qi hesitated, the usually thick-skinned him blushing. He turned his head to glance at the girls again, then very quietly asked, “What do you guys think, can I pursue her?”
Jiang Yan: …
He couldn’t help but look at Yu Hang.
Yu Hang, feeling flustered, scolded Jiang Yan in a low voice, “Why the hell do you keep looking at me?” It’s Xiao Qi who wants to pursue Zhu Jin, so what’s with you looking at me?
Jiang Yan inwardly sighed but retorted out loud, “Zhu Zhen isn’t here yet; right now, it’s just us three. I have to either look at Xiao Qi or you. Or what, do you want me to look at a dog instead?”
Xiao Qi felt disrespected by the two of them, “I’m seriously saying something here, can you two stop messing around?”
Both of them nodded in unison, chiming in together, “Go for it!”
Jiang Yan again couldn’t resist looking at Yu Hang.
Yu Hang: …
He changed his approach, telling Xiao Qi, “The chances of success for a long-distance relationship aren’t high. I’d advise you to give up; otherwise, it’ll be awkward at future gatherings.”
Xiao Qi was actually somewhat swayed. Everyone had a good relationship, and if they got together but it didn’t work out, they might end up not even being able to remain friends.
He sighed, “Then how about you go for it, Yu Hang? You’re both in Beijing, not a long-distance. The chances should be higher, right?”
Yu Hang was taken aback. He asked incredulously, “Why do you insist on me pursuing her if you can’t? Have you never heard the saying that ‘a rabbit doesn’t eat the grass by its burrow’?”
“All I know is that ‘ill-gotten gains don’t reach home.’ Good girls should obviously be kept by ourselves, knowing her background and all. Why let outsiders have the advantage, right, Jiang Yan?”
“Right, I agree!”
