Chapter 70: Chapter 70 Waiting for Him to Propose Divorce
"There wasn’t much of interest at Haohan Group anymore. Jian Xi specifically walked up to the reception desk and instructed, "Director Si is very busy. If it’s not important, don’t let any Tom, Dick, or Harry disturb him. When necessary, you may use special measures."
She refused to believe Jiang Qimeng wouldn’t come to tattle! She would walk her own path, leaving Jiang Qimeng with nowhere to go.
"Certainly, Madam."
The receptionist watched as Jian Xi put on her glasses and left with a confident, carefree air. Madam and Director Si truly are a couple deeply in love!
「...」
Xiang Yao barged in and was immediately stopped by security guards.
"Miss, this is Haohan Group. May I ask who you are looking for?" the receptionist asked, frowning at Xiang Yao’s aggressive demeanor. This must be the kind of woman Madam meant by ’Tom, Dick, or Harry’ before she left, right?
"Let the unfaithful Si Yuhuan come out! He must stand up for our Mengmeng today, or else I’ll plant myself here and refuse to leave!" Xiang Yao declared arrogantly. She looked nothing like a lady from high society; rather, she resembled a shrew from the streets.
The receptionist dealt with women like this—crying "unfaithful man!" and trying to gain an advantage—countless times a day; she was adept at handling them. "Alright, Miss, please come this way," she said respectfully, showing Xiang Yao enough deference to satisfy her vanity.
Xiang Yao lifted her chin triumphantly. "Hurry up. Any later, and Director Si might just fire you."
She then followed the receptionist into an elevator. But why are there two security guards following me? she wondered.
Realizing something was amiss, she shouted, "Hey, what do you think you’re doing?!"
The security guards grabbed her arms, one on each side, and dragged her in.
The moment the elevator doors closed, the receptionist couldn’t help but roll her eyes. What a piece of work, threatening to have me fired!
「...」
Xiang Yao was literally thrown into the underground parking garage. She lay sprawled on the ground, her arms scraped raw. "Get lost, you filthy scoundrels!" she shrieked. "How dare you treat me like this! Si Yuhuan won’t let you off, and Mengmeng will avenge me! A mere receptionist and security guards daring to treat me this way... SOB SOB SOB... I don’t want to live anymore!"
"If you want to die, no one’s stopping you," one of the security guards retorted, not bothering to hide his disdain. "Daring to come to Haohan Group to try and stir up trouble? Don’t you know Director Si has given orders not to let in any riff-raff!"
He’d seen plenty of vain, materialistic women, but few as audacious as her.
Intimidated by the large, menacing security guards, Xiang Yao was so frightened she practically scrambled and crawled all the way back to the modest apartment where Jiang Qimeng was currently living.
Jiang Qimeng was now living in a modest rented apartment. It was a far cry from her past opulence but possessed its own unique charm—the highest standard her current income could afford.
Feeling stifled, she swam a lap in the small indoor pool and climbed out. Her new assistant, Xiaotang, quickly wrapped her in a bath towel.
Jiang Qimeng was very dissatisfied with the current pool. It was less than ten meters long in total, a far cry from the open-air swimming pool Si Yuhuan had once provided for her. She had no idea how much longer she’d have to endure this miserable life.
She tapped a perfectly manicured fingernail. "Any news from Xiang Yao yet?"
The words had barely left her lips when Xiang Yao burst through the door with a BANG, wailing like a madwoman. "Mengmeng, Si Yuhuan has had a change of heart! He actually called me riff-raff and wouldn’t let me in! I was thrown out of Haohan Group!"
Jiang Qimeng felt as if she’d been struck by lightning. A chill shot through her, her blood seeming to run cold, and her face turned deathly white. She rushed over and grabbed Xiang Yao’s arms.
"Did Si Yuhuan personally send someone to throw you out?"
Xiang Yao, scared out of her wits, thought carefully. The bodyguards *had* said that. She immediately nodded vigorously. "Yes!"
It was over! Si Yuhuan had treated her like this... Could his heart truly have changed?
「...」
That evening, Jian Xi had just lain down when she received a call from Wan Yu.
"Shocking news! Jiang Qimeng fell from a building!" Wan Yu shrieked, unable to contain her excitement.
"What?"
Jian Xi sat bolt upright in bed, her voice incredulous and hoarse as a storm of emotions surged within her. Jiang Qimeng, the woman she had fought tirelessly but never managed to surpass in her previous life, had tried to kill herself! A whirlwind of emotions flooded her.
Wan Yu gave an awkward laugh. "Well, not exactly from a building. To be precise, she fell down the stairs. She’s fine, just hurt her ankle. She’s in the hospital now."
Jian Xi sighed. "...Couldn’t you have just said that all at once?"
A scourge lasts a thousand years, as they say. Jiang Qimeng, who coveted glory and wealth, wouldn’t die that easily.
"Reporters were on it immediately," Wan Yu continued. "Apparently, someone tampered with clothes she bought from Ouleite Mall. The internet is buzzing about it now."
Jian Xi immediately opened Weibo. Someone had even dug up and posted a video online of her arguing with Jiang Qimeng. However, it was filmed from a distance; the audio was inaudible, and their faces were indistinct in the blurry footage.
Others might not be able to make out the faces, but that didn’t mean Si Yuhuan couldn’t! Jiang Qimeng was setting a trap for her! How malicious!
Wan Yu was indignant. "This person keeps releasing one exposé after another, all targeting you! That vile woman! I’m going to tear her apart!"
Jian Xi stopped her. "Calm down. She’s deliberately provoking me, hoping I’ll lose my temper and attack her. Then, naturally, someone will come to her defense."
Her trump card was Si Yuhuan. Jian Xi didn’t dare gamble on how far Si Yuhuan would go for Jiang Qimeng. Jiang Qimeng was a master at using entertainment industry tactics to destroy someone; Jian Xi might not be her match.
"So we just sit back and do nothing?" Wan Yu asked, frustrated.
Jian Xi smiled and poured herself a glass of red wine. "Why should we lose our composure?"
"But Si Yuhuan will come after you! Have you forgotten what he’s like? The moment the mall came into your possession, Jiang Qimeng gets injured. He’ll definitely think you’re trying to harm her! He’s probably regretting transferring the mall to you already."
The more Wan Yu thought about it, the more worried she became. "Si Yuhuan won’t... kill you, will he?"
"No, no, I’m coming over right now to back you up!" That’s what good sisters do; they rush in when there’s trouble.
"It’s fine," Jian Xi said with a laugh. "Do I look like such a pushover? Jiang Qimeng wants to escalate the conflict, but I refuse to play into her hands. Just watch. It’s still uncertain who will have the last laugh!"
Jian Xi was waiting for Si Yuhuan, but he hadn’t even called yet. This was much slower than in her previous life. She vividly remembered how, back then, every slight scandal or injury involving Jiang Qimeng was automatically blamed on her, leading to accusations and reproaches from him. He had suggested divorce countless times in such situations. Would he bring it up himself this time? Only time would tell.
Entertainment news spread rapidly. Jian Chuxin, her second older brother who was abroad, called her as soon as he heard.
"What’s this video circulating in the entertainment news back home? Is she trying to frame you?"
He’d seen plenty of such petty schemes and wouldn’t normally pay them any mind, but when it involved his beloved younger sister, Jian Chuxin immediately flared up.
"Damn it! Daring to mess with you using the entertainment industry... Does she think your second brother’s years in this business were for nothing?! Just watch me deal with her!"
"Has Si Yuhuan given you any trouble?" He was as volatile as a blazing fireball, sounding ready to fly back immediately.
