Chapter 84: Chapter 42 Can’t Go Anymore_2
Mrs. Fang saw and felt heartache, quietly saying, "This breakfast almost costs as much as the carriage fare!"
Mrs. Li, while chewing vigorously, chuckled and said, "This is nothing! It’s not even enough to fill the gaps between Granny’s teeth! Don’t feel bad, dearie!" After speaking, she energetically urged Sang Yan, "Eat more! It will be afternoon by the time we reach your sister’s house!"
"I’ll serve you some soup!" Mrs. Fang glanced at her and remained silent.
"I want extra green onion and coriander in my bowl!" Mrs. Li called out, sticking her neck out. The soup, green onion, and coriander were free at the restaurant.
After eating their fill, the group got back into the carriage.
After traveling for quite a while, Second Master Sang suddenly furrowed his brow, covered his stomach instinctively, his face turning from green to pale, and unable to bear it, he shouted, "Stop the carriage! Stop the carriage! My stomach can’t take it, I need to get out for a moment!"
"Oh Master, why do you look so pale!" Mrs. Li exclaimed in shock.
"Did you get a bad stomach from eating?" Sang Yan also worried and quickly spoke.
"Nonsense!" Second Master Sang glared at his daughter. As if suggesting he never ate good food and indulged himself to the point of ruining his stomach.
Although he suspected the same internally.
Second Master Sang got off the carriage and ran into the nearby forest, only to return quite a while later, staggering and weakly climbed back, waving his hand, "Let’s go!"
In less than half an hour, Second Master Sang’s complexion turned odd, and he loudly shouted "Stop the carriage! Stop the carriage!" running into the bushes like a whirlwind again.
In less than an hour, Second Master Sang ran in and out four times, looking pale and unsteady, barely able to muster the strength to speak. Not only did his complexion look extremely dreadful, but his new silk clothes were also wrinkled and stained with mud, and the edges and front of his robe were snagged, looking utterly decrepit.
"Uncle, are you alright?" Sang Hong said concerned.
"No, I can’t make it!" Second Master Sang looked down at his disheveled appearance, shook his head and said, "I’m not going anymore, I’m not going!" To say it wasn’t just his physical condition; entering someone’s house looking like this would be embarrassing. He, Second Master Sang, always dignified and imposing, can’t afford to lose this face.
"Then, what should we do? Should we first take you back to the town? You could hire a carriage to go home?" Mrs. Li’s face suddenly changed. She had a bad feeling.
"We’ve already been delayed quite a bit, and going back and forth might make us late! If the son-in-law and mother-in-law get angry, accusing the Sang family of putting on airs, then that would be—" Mrs. Fang said, finding it difficult.
Whether Sang Wan gets angry isn’t much of a concern to the couple, but the son-in-law and mother-in-law’s opinion matters much more. They still hope the Shi family could support their daughter in finding a good match.
"You go ahead, you go!" Second Master Sang glared at Mrs. Li, "Get off! I see a few homes to the east, we’ll rest there and wait for you to come pick us up! Why are you still standing there, come down!"
Second Master Sang glowered and roared.
"Coming! Coming!" Mrs. Li hurriedly got off the carriage.
"I’m not going either, I’m not going!" Mrs. Li was dominant, and although Sang Yan was her beloved since childhood, she hadn’t escaped scolding and relied on her mother out of both fear and dependence, and could hardly imagine being away from her. Moreover, Mrs. Fang had long been at odds with her mother, and previously, she had no sisterly affection with Sang Wan.
"You hopeless girl, are you trying to kill me! Go, why aren’t you going!" Mrs. Li, frustrated like iron not becoming steel, already frustrated inside, suddenly vented her anger, walked over briskly, and jabbed her finger hard several times on Sang Yan’s forehead, cursing vehemently.
Sang Yan, unable to face everyone, covered her face and burst into tears with a "wah," sobbing persistently and refused to go.
"I think it’s better for Ayan to stay back to accompany you, taking care of two kids, we really might not be able to look after her well," Sang Hong said, feeling a bit awkward.
This was exactly what Sang Yan was afraid of, she, a timid and weak country girl without a backbone by her side, and the sister-in-law in the main hall didn’t even like her. Going would only make her the butt of jokes.
"Dad! I want to stay to take care of Dad!" Sang Yan ran over quickly and gripped Second Master Sang’s arm tightly, pleadingly looking at him.
"Alright, alright! Let her stay, let her stay!" Second Master Sang was weak and intermittent pains still tortured his stomach, feeling terribly uncomfortable, at this moment all he wanted was to find a place to comfortably lie down and then call a doctor. What else could he care about?
Mrs. Li, out of options, angrily glared at Sang Yan a couple of times and muttered a few curses, then turned to Sang Hong and sighed, "Oh dear, what can we do? We rushed out and didn’t bring any money! We still need to eat at noon, and the Master needs to see a doctor! What are we going to do!"
Sang Hong took out a couple of pieces of silver, and smiling handed it to Mrs. Li, "Auntie, maybe you should use this money for now."
Mrs. Li quickly took it and idly rubbed it, sighing, "Although it’s a little less, we will make do! Ah, I won’t delay you any longer, go quickly! Remember to send regards to the mother-in-law and son-in-law, and Grandma!"
Mrs. Li watched the carriage and sighed wistfully. She then comforted herself, after all, this relation can’t run away, not meeting this time, it will be the same next time! Humph, she didn’t believe that the Shi family could shut their doors and refuse to recognize their relatives!
With this thought, Mrs. Li’s mood turned better again. But she couldn’t help but feel resentful thinking about missing the opportunity to properly meet the Shi family, and secretly rolled her eyes at Second Master Sang numerous times, cursing him silently in her heart.
Back in the carriage, Mrs. Fang finally couldn’t help but cover her mouth and chuckle.
"Uncle, there won’t be any problems, right?" Sang Hong was a bit worried.
"Don’t worry! There won’t be any problems," Mrs. Fang smiled. Her treatment was gentle, Second Master Sang just needed to lie down and he would be fine.
Sang Hong sighed helplessly, if not for the fear of leaving a bad first impression on the Shi family, he wouldn’t have agreed to this.
