Rebirth: Contract Husband Falls in Love with Me -
Chapter 77 - 39 Drunkenness
Chapter 77: Chapter 39 Drunkenness
"Sorry, so sorry!" Shi Fengju was startled and scrambled to get up in a panic. Even with Sang Wan, his own childhood sweetheart and cousin, he had never been this intimate, how could he be so impolite to Sang Wan?
"Madam! Are you asleep? The slave is here to bring the young master his hangover soup!" A crisp knocking and loud call suddenly came from the door.
Both on the bed were already feeling awkward and tense, and at the sound, they both got startled, their expressions changing in unison! Shi Fengju’s soberness was more in spirit than in strength, and under the shock, he lost control and fell, becoming even more inappropriately close, with his face lowering right onto Sang Wan’s lips.
The soft and cool contact made both of their hearts surge with warmth, inadvertently freezing them in place.
Shi Fengju felt the warmth and smoothness immensely, and under the spell of his senses, subconsciously sucked lightly twice.
"You! Get off!" Sang Wan, both shocked and ashamed, blushed so deeply her face seemed almost to bleed, and with sudden strength, pushed Shi Fengju forcefully away.
Shi Fengju, caught off guard, fell to the side, his head hitting the bedpost with a "thud," making him unable to suppress a moan of "ouch".
"Madam?" Xingzhi, outside the door, raised her voice on hearing the noise, "What happened?"
"No, nothing!" Sang Wan sat up, glared at Shi Fengju with a mix of resentment and grievance, hastily adjusted her clothes and hairpin, and said evenly, "Wait a moment, I’ll be right there."
After saying that, she opened the door halfway, took the tray from Xingzhi’s hand with a smile, and said, "Give it to me, and you can go rest!"
Xingzhi hesitated a bit, nodded, and replied with a forced smile, "Then, this slave will go down first!"
Sang Wan nodded and hurriedly closed the door again.
If she weren’t worried about Mrs. Li saying she wasn’t taking good care of Shi Fengju by not giving him hangover soup, Sang Wan really did not want to open the door.
She put the hangover soup on the table and, with her back to Shi Fengju, said, "Young master, quickly come and drink it."
Shi Fengju, after being pushed and the subsequent bump, finally sobered up quite a bit, and, reflecting on the absurdity of his actions, felt somewhat sheepish and embarrassed. Although Sang Wan was giving him the cold shoulder, he didn’t dare to get angry and coughed as he struggled out of the bed, awkwardly said, "You, go back to sleep. Just now... I’m sorry!"
He would have been better off not mentioning the incident, because as soon as he brought it up, Sang Wan felt even more uncomfortable. Feeling wronged, she hung her head in silence, avoiding him as she went back to the bed. When Shi Fengju couldn’t help but look again, the crimson bed curtains had already been drawn, casting an elusive veil.
Shi Fengju’s first reaction was disappointment.
He slapped his forehead in annoyance, what was going on tonight? Was he bewitched? She was clearly his fake wife; how could he actually take advantage of her?
However, recalling her displeased yet angry expression, the warm and soft touch, and her scent, Shi Fengju’s heart once again wavered, and the tenderness deep in his eyes and the unperceived smile curling on his lips escaped even his own notice.
After drinking the hangover soup at the table, he planned to wait a bit more to sober up before taking the bedding out of the wardrobe, trying to avoid waking her with any loud movements. But leaning over the table, he fell asleep without realizing it.
Inside the bed curtains, Sang Wan was also not sleeping well. Recollecting the recent events, she felt a mix of emotions: embarrassment with a sweet feeling she couldn’t quite name, and within that sweetness, there was a hint of acidity and bitterness.
After all, what does he see her as? Were his actions just a slip of mind or intentional insolence? Either way, he deserved a beating!
After all, he never planned to spend a lifetime with her, to grow old together, did he?
Although Sang Wan was annoyed with Shi Fengju, she inadvertently felt a bit guilty and fearful for pushing him hard enough to stumble. Seeing him manage to get up and drink the hangover soup later, he must be fine. If he had been injured or worse, Mrs. Li and her mother-in-law would probably skin her alive! Fortunately, he was generous enough to not hold it against her this time.
If he really got furious and decided to make an issue of it, she would be the one at a loss.
Upon deeper reflection, what standing did their agreement have? Wasn’t it all because he was a gentleman? If he insisted on not keeping his word and took advantage of her, and after getting tired of it, continued to cuddle with his cousin as before, she couldn’t do much to him! After all, he was her "husband," right?
Sang Wan’s heart twisted and turned, the more she thought about it, the more confused she became about how she should treat Shi Fengju. Tangled and restless, sleep escaped her.
