Chapter 219: Chapter 196 Wedding Banquet Scene_3
After a while, she continued talking about how high-end the hotel chosen for the wedding was, as if everything combined merely showcased the profound wealth of the bride’s family.
Li Si simply listened with a forced smile. She could tell that Mrs. Leng felt somewhat unsettled. Especially with Zeng Qiuping deliberately flaunting these matters in front of her, it undoubtedly left Mrs. Leng feeling embarrassed.
However, Mrs. Leng was only venting to her for now. Since nothing overly offensive had been said, Li Si decided to play dumb and let it be.
Day by day passed, and soon it was May 1—Leng Mohao’s wedding day.
On this day, Li Si dressed meticulously and attended their grand wedding alongside the Leng family.
Upon arriving at the venue, Li Si found that the place exuded understated luxury. The banquet hall was packed with people. She was pulled by Leng Ning to sit at a table close to the stage.
Mrs. Leng immediately bumped into some acquaintances and began chatting with them.
Leng Mochen encountered several senior executives from Leng Group, who respectfully surrounded him in small talk.
Some of Leng Qiankai’s friends also showed up; he was busy hosting them. Li Si took a glance and noticed that many of them had an air of artistry—probably his friends from the world of painting and calligraphy.
Looking around, since Leng Qianhan worked in government circles, there were quite a few guests here. However, everyone seemed reserved and avoided any ostentatious displays, most sitting quietly at their tables, chatting and laughing.
Zeng Qiuping, being a social butterfly, had attracted many friends to attend her son’s wedding. Today, she wore a dark red cheongsam, showcasing the graceful beauty of oriental women.
Leng Mo sat behind their table with a "do-not-approach" expression on her face, lost in her own thoughts.
In a hushed tone, Leng Ning leaned close to Li Si and whispered, "Sis-in-law, it was the right move not to attend the bride pickup ceremony and just come straight here. I heard that Liu Jiaqi arranged six bridesmaids—so, obviously, on my brother’s side, there had to be six groomsmen as well. The whole thing must’ve been a chaotic mess!"
Li Si nodded with a smile, thinking to herself that such grand weddings really were in a class of their own—certainly eye-opening.
Playfully, Leng Ning nudged her arm on the table. "Sis-in-law, when it’s your turn to marry my brother, make it eight on each side so you can outdo them all!"
"You! What’s the point of competing over this? Then tell me, how many will you have for your own wedding—ten?" Li Si teased, finding Leng Ning’s childlike ways amusing.
Leng Ning stuck out her tongue mischievously. "I wouldn’t bother with that! Too much hassle! When I get married, I’d rather have a destination wedding—traveling the world sounds way more meaningful than throwing some banquet."
"Do you think Mom would agree to that?" Li Si genuinely doubted it. Not hosting a wedding banquet when marrying off a daughter? That’s just not Mrs. Leng’s style. Lately, she’s been so worked up over Leng Mohao’s wedding, and even holding back from going over-the-top seems like a miracle!
"Sigh, can’t you just let me dream for a moment?" Leng Ning grumbled unhappily.
Li Si stood up and patted her shoulder. "Alright, dream all you want. I’m heading to the restroom!"
"Want me to go with you?" Her brother had specifically instructed her to look after Li Si well.
Li Si tapped her forehead lightly and said, "Do I seem that fragile? Wait for me!" She then shook her head, laughing as she headed to the restroom, her thoughts wandering. Weddings really were exhausting; hopefully, hers would be simpler.
Lost in thought, she emerged from the restroom just as the host’s voice echoed through the banquet hall. Walking back inside, she arrived just in time to see the wedding march beginning, with the bride Liu Jiaqi entering on her father Liu Yisi’s arm while the groom, Leng Mohao, stood on the other side.
With music flowing, lights flashing, and white smoke rolling over the stage, Li Si decided not to head back to her table just yet, intending to wait until the ceremony ended before rejoining Leng Ning.
What she hadn’t expected was to spot Liu Xiaole’s family amidst the noisy wedding scene, confirming her earlier hunch that Liu Xiaole and Liu Jiaqi were indeed related.
Liu Xiaole grabbed Li Si and sat her down, curling her lips in disdain. "Sisi, did you see that? Look at Liu Jiaqi’s family—they’re over the moon, basking in their own glory!"
"Xiaole!" Nanny Liu nudged her, hoping she would tone down her remarks.
Running into Li Si here today had deeply surprised Nanny Liu. Who’d have thought that this girl could become a daughter-in-law of the Leng family? No matter how you put it, her boyfriend and Liu Jiaqi’s husband were first cousins. Comparatively speaking, their relationship was closer—talking too much might not go over well.
"Auntie, don’t worry! Xiaole knows where to draw the line!" Li Si caught on to Nanny Liu’s concerns and reassured her.
Nanny Liu laughed awkwardly, somewhat embarrassed.
Indifferent, Liu Xiaole waved her hand dismissively. "Mom, go sit at that table; I’ll chat with Sisi for a while!"
Nanny Liu hesitated but eventually left in worry, while Liu Xiaole pulled Li Si to a quiet corner to sit and vent her frustrations. "Sisi, I’m fed up with my dad’s foolishly filial ways. If it were up to Mom and me, we wouldn’t have even shown up today!"
"Do you think they’re remotely interested in having us here? But after Grandma said her piece, my dad came home acting like it was the end of the world. Mom couldn’t resist, and here we are. At least I managed to avoid the whole bridesmaid ordeal!"
Li Si gently held her hand and comforted her. "Xiaole, don’t overthink it. Since you’re already here, just treat it as a chance to join the fun!"
"Sisi, I’ve come to terms with it! It’s fine now! But I never would’ve guessed that your boyfriend comes from such a wealthy background! No wonder Ling Wei, even with Wang Zhe by her side, still keeps obsessing over wanting to meet your boyfriend. That girl’s been secretly scheming!"
Recently, Liu Xiaole had been observing everything closely. Ling Wei’s sudden shift in attitude must’ve been caused by hearing some gossip and adjusting her approach accordingly!
Otherwise, why bother putting on that perpetually sour face in the dormitory? Who was she trying to impress?
Li Si couldn’t help but chuckle. "Whatever her plans are, they’re all in vain! She might end up losing the happiness she already has!"
"You’re so spot on! That’s totally possible. Let me tell you, since you haven’t been to the dorm much recently, you wouldn’t know—just the other day, I overheard her arguing over the phone with Wang Zhe about breaking up, but he wouldn’t agree!"
Apparently, Ling Wei hadn’t known about Leng Mochen’s background initially—it was just speculation. Then one day, she saw an article in a magazine about Mo Si Company and finally realized how exceptional he truly was.
Already feeling lukewarm toward Wang Zhe, Ling Wei grew increasingly frustrated. The two of them constantly argued over minor issues, which led to the breakup scene Liu Xiaole overheard.
