Chapter 63: Luck

Phyr’s ghost began to breathe heavily as the beating heart of the Hydra sank deeper into the cold body.

"What are you doing?"

Zeph asked, worried about the well being of her sister. She tried to ran up to Leo, however a strong gust of wind pushed her away against the wall.

A few guards had heard the commotion and ran in to check what was going on, and as soon as they saw a force field around Leo and the runecrafter they hit the alarm.

"Move away!"

One of them shouted and took out a longbow, pointing it at the barrier and firing an arrow.

It had no effect as the dense Mana emitting from the heart bounced it off.

[Mana 43 291/15 720]

More of it was being absorbed than he could shoot out, tearing him from inside out, but if he stopped refining it now, the heart would be absorbed wrong.

He summoned more and more serpents around himself and shot them randomly, just to burn through as much as possible.

Now, instead of increasing, the Mana count began to slowly go down.

[Mana 43 021/15 720]

<Remember to stay calm>

Leo kept breathing as evenly as it allowed him to, knowing very well that going out of sync right now would be deadly for both of them.

Thanks to keeping the balance in check, the heart was absorbed into the cold body without any more issues.

Just as quickly as it appeared, the force field faded away. Now a dozen guards rushed into the room and grabbed Leo away from the dead body on the floor.

They tried to pull him away but all of a sudden.

Ba-dum... Ba-dum...

All of them including Zeph and Leo looked at the cold body. The pale skin began to take in cream color as blood slowly circulated through it.

They looked at the ghost flying around the room hyperventilating in confusion at what was going on.

She tried to speak but was unable to, and then all of a sudden, her ghostly body was pulled back into the physical one.

...

Her hands jittered and she supported herself to try standing up, Zeph ran up to her with tears in her eyes.

"Phyr!"

The guards let go of Leo and the two girls hugged each other, crying uncontrollably as they did so.

"Thank you so much... I don’t know how we could ever repay you!"

Zeph hugged him tightly, snot and tears still coming out as she had long lost hope of fixing her sister.

But then she slapped him with annoyance in her face.

"And that’s for giving me such a thing without explanation!"

Right after she ran back to her sister, hugging her closely, still feeling like it was all a dream.

<I don’t know what you were thinking either to be fair>

It completely skipped his mind that others had no idea how exactly it worked, so he decided to do the one thing that he could in this situation.

"I’m sorry to both of you."

To show his complete respect he even bowed down to the two girls.

"Cheer up, all is well as long as it ends well."

Phyr grinned at him while making peace signs with her hands. After seeing Zeph nod to what she just had said he sighed in relief.

"I do have one thing I need to check though, if you will let me."

He requested the newly reanimated Phyr.

"Ye sure go ahead, I’m fine with anything!"

Without waiting a moment longer, he approached her and put the palm of his hand on her temple to check her heartbeat.

To his surprise it was extremely fast, and her face was getting red. While both of the girls stared at him embarrassed and cofnused why he was putting his hands on Phyr’s chest, he looked up fully serious.

"Your heartbeat is extremely fast! I think something went wrong!!"

Another slap right across his face, although for a different reason.

This one even Cien didn’t want to comment on, leaving Leo confused on the ground as Zeph was lecturing him to never do it again.

"Do you understand?"

Zeph’s expression was as scary as when she was driving her van, making Leo nod in agreement and drop to his knees again.

"Now, don’t be so hard on him Zeph. It’s not like he was trying to touch me inappropriately, BUT a punishment is still in place. You are going shopping with us!"

"Huh."

"Huh."

Both of them looked confused at her, why shopping? Why does he need to go with them?

"Are you sure we shouldn’t go to a hospital first?"

Worried Zeph asked, not too sure if celebrating so soon was the best idea right now, however, there was another reason.

She looked at Leo a bit blushed, not wanting to show more of her vulnerable side of herself to him.

Seeing her sister flushed like that made Phyr chuckle as a wide mischievous smirk appeared on her face.

"Hmm, then how about we go eat something instead? I feel like I haven’t eaten in a week!"

Her comment got a laugh out of both of them and this request was far more reasonable than going shopping right away.

"sigh Fine we can go, but as soon as something goes wrong with you, we are heading to the hospital right away."

While they were walking outside, the Association Head, Adam’s stopped them.

"Good job on completing the contract, if you ever need help with anything, the American Association will help... as long as it’s reasonable enough."

As formal and straightforward as always, however Leo didn’t see anything bad about it since it would allow them to skip all the boring small talk.

"I do have a request... and I would like it fulfilled as soon as possible."

He told him, half of the reason was because he didn’t want to go babysit the two girls at a fast food restaurant, and the other would be the need of that thing to complete his artifact.

"And what would that be?"

Leo looked straight at Adam’s, he practiced some English on the way just to sound more professional right now.

"I want you to free a prisoner for me."
