"Cough!"

Lily Turner was startled by Easton Holmes’ words, causing her to choke on her bun and start coughing.

Seeing this, Easton quickly pulled the bun away from her mouth, and with the other hand, he patted her back to help her breathe, "Eat slowly, no one’s fighting you for it."

"Cough... cough..."

Upon hearing this, Lily coughed even more, and seeing her like this, Easton immediately straightened up and walked out of the dining room. She thought he had left, but after a moment, he returned with a glass of water.

"Have some water to help."

As he came to her side, he handed her the cup, and seeing her eyes wide as she looked at him, he smiled, "To make up for the trouble I caused, I cooled down the water with a bowl."

Looking at the glass of water Easton offered her, Lily’s dissatisfaction vanished instantly, replaced by gratitude, though she maintained a show of displeasure towards him on the surface.

"In the future, keep some distance from me while eating." She gave him a forceful glare, took the glass from his hand, and drank it leisurely.

"No problem."

As long as he didn’t have to keep his distance while sleeping, he would play it by ear at other times. Easton silently thought to himself, raising his hand to ruffle her smooth hair, "Take your time eating, I’m off to the Military Department."

He was already late once yesterday, and today he couldn’t afford to be late again.

He wasn’t afraid of running with weights; he feared people would gossip behind her back, accidentally giving her the reputation of a femme fatale.

"Don’t bring me lunch when you return later; I can’t eat anymore." As Easton turned to leave, Lily swallowed the water in her mouth and loudly reminded him.

"Got it."

Easton glanced back at her and left the dining room with large strides.

Upon hearing the sound of the door closing, Lily let out a long sigh; that guy had finally gone, and she could finally take a deep breath in peace.

Lily had originally planned to wait for the bread to return to room temperature before eating it with milk, but she hadn’t expected Easton to purposely go out to buy breakfast for her.

She had never enjoyed such treatment with Henry Thompson, back then she was always the one being attentive, to the point of being almost meticulous towards him.

Lily frowned in frustration as she thought about that ungrateful man again. She shook her head hard to clear those messy thoughts out of her head.

Not wanting to waste Easton’s kind gesture, Lily decisively abandoned the bread and milk, opting for the steamed buns and soy milk he had just brought back.

Easton called Lily after his morning practice, informing her that he had an urgent task after breakfast, so he wouldn’t come home for lunch.

This was the situation Lily had always hoped for, but now that it truly happened, she felt a bit lost. She stared at the now dark phone for a long time before snapping out of it.

Ding-dong! Ding-dong! Ding-dong!

At that moment, the doorbell rang unexpectedly.

Who was ringing the doorbell? Could it be Bella Carter?

Thinking that it might be Bella at the door, Lily quickly got up and left the living room to open the door, but when she did, it wasn’t Bella she saw, but rather Evelyn Taylor, someone she wasn’t particularly keen on seeing.

"Are you looking for me or for my husband?" Lily asked, holding the door to block Evelyn from entering.
