Chapter 31: In need of help.

Amari wakes up on wet muddy ground and is still dizzy, he’s not aware of where he is or what is happening. He sees Apollo from a distance who’s still unconscious with his clothes ripped from him.

Amari stumbles and barely stands on his feet, he takes a hard step forward and it feels as if something is pulling him back. When he finally approaches Apollo, he attempts to wake him up but its futile.

Amari then attempts to pick Apollo up so that he can carry him but ends up dropping him and falls on face first on the ground. He gets up and tries again but fails once more, but in his third attempt he finally manages to pick him.

As he walks through the woods, his physically and mentally tired. He trips and falls on several occasions but keeps pushing through the pain trying to find a place where they could rest.

After hours of falling and walking he finally sees a village, there’s guards everywhere surrounding the village. Amari smiles and wait takes a deep breath, he starts going towards the village.

One of the guards that’s standing in front of the gate and sees Amari from a distance, he doubts. He squints his eyes so that can see whether he is seeing a person or whether it’s his imagination.

’’Hey... can you see that? or is it just me?’’

’’Where?’’

’’Look over there.’’ The guard points at the direction of where Amari is.

’’What is that?’’

They both look at Amari who’s walking in their direction covered in mud and barely looks like a human, while carrying a naked Apollo on his bed.

’’I don’t know...’’

’’Hey!! I see movement this way!!’’ He calls for another guard who’s guarding from the top of the wall and looks for people coming from a distance.

The guard takes his binoculars out and looks.

’’What is it?!’’

’’That’s... I think it’s a kid!!’’

’’What? It’s a kid carrying another kid.’’

’’Oh... do they look like they could be a threat?’’

’’No... quite the opposite, it looks like they’re dying.’’

’’Does that mean we should go and help them.’’

’’No, that could be a trap, let them come here and let’s see what they want.’’

The closer he gets to them, the less of a threat he is. He finally arrives at the gate and stands in front of two tall and muscular guards, holding spears and wearing the same type of armor that the men they saw that morning. They all silently stare at each other with suspense.

’’Introduce yourself! and why you’re here!’’

’’...’’

’’If you remain silent, we’ll be forced to regard you as a threat.’’

’’My friend is hurt... he needs a doctor.’’

’’We don’t have doctors for outsiders, now leave these grounds.’’

Amari doesn’t move and looks at the men, but they lift their spears and hold it to Amari’s neck.

’’Leave boy.’’

Amari turns around and walks away. While he is leaving a troop of men on horses are heading to the village on their return and they are singing their hearts away, celebrating the fact that they found their young prince.

’’Hey look...who’s that?’’

’’I don’t know.’’

’’Hey, stop!’’ the man stands in front of Amari.

Amari looks at him with an eerie look.

’’What happened to you?’’

’’...’’

’’Is he a mute?’’

’’Hey, I know them.’’

A boy steps forward and looks at Amari.

’’They’re the boys who got me out of the pit hole.’’

’’Is that so...’’

’’Yes... what happened to you?’’

It was Erik the boy they abandon in the morning.

’’Do you guys have a doctor? My friend is hurt.’’

’’No, we don’t but you should come with us, we do have a doctor at the village.’’

’’We can’t go with you.’’

’’Why? if your friend doesn’t receive any medical attention soon, he might die.’’

’’The guards... they said they don’t have doctors for foreigners.’’

’’What?! Nonsense! You’re coming with us and that’s final.’’

He grabs Apollo from Apollo back and puts him at the back of a horse cart. He takes his jacket off and covers Apollo with.

’’Come, you better get on.’’

Amari gets on the cart, and they start moving. The man that invited Amari rides his horse next to him.

’’So, what’s your name boy?’’

’’... Amari.’’

’’What about your friend?’’

’’Apollo.’’

’’Amari and Apollo... My name is Erling, and I’m that boy’s uncle.’’ He points at Erik who is sitting opposite to Amari.

They ride until they finally arrive at the gate of the village. The guards recognize Amari and go to whisper at Erling, but he insisted that they go through. They open the gates and allow the troop to walk in.

’’Everyone!! The prince has been found alive!!’’

The villagers come outside to see whether it is true, and they start rejoicing. He jumps off the cart and goes to where the people are and they all cheer and start celebrating.

’’Let’s take these two to the doctor.’’

The rest of the men remain behind looking after the prince as Erling goes with them to the doctor.

’’We’re here, come.’’

The man that was driving the cart takes Apollo and follows the two of them into one of the village houses. They knock on the door and a someone looks through a peep hole.’’

’’Let us in.’’

’’What do you want Erling?’’

’’We have some customers for you.’’

’’I retired... go to the village hospital.’’

’’This boy can only be helped by the best. Doctor Freyr please.’’

The doctor sighs but after a long pause he opens the door.

’’Bring ’em in.’’

Erling looks at Amari and invites him to follow him.

’’Woah woah wait!! what’s with him?’’

’’It’s just mud, doctor.’’

’’You always bring trouble into my house, put him on the bed.’’

The doctor goes to fetch his medical tools and his seat. He examines Apollo’s body from his heart rate to his temperature.

’’How long has he been unconscious?’’

’’...’’

Erling taps Amari who is zoned out.

’’What?’’

’’How long has he been like this?’’

’’I don’t know...’’

’’Do you know why he’s like this?’’

’’No... the only thing I remember is him turning into a beast and then... the rest is kind of fuzzy right now.’’

’’Doctor, could you take care of them. I’ll come and check up on them later.’’

’’Okay.’’

He turns to Amari.

’’I’ll come back when all good, okay?’’

Amari nods, and they exit the house.

’’Will he be, okay?’’

’’Yeah, he’ll be okay.’’
